Until we meet again

Our mother awaits you in heaven, dad.

You will always be in my heart.

Samuel Clarke John Long

August 23, 1918 ~ October 3, 2008

We little knew that morning

That God would call your name.

In life we loved you dearly;

In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you did not go alone,

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,

Your love is still our guide,

And though we cannot see you,

You are always by our side.

Our family chain is broken

And nothing seems the same,

But as God calls us one by one,

The chain will link again.

  8. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and yours. I hope that you find peace and comfort in knowing thathe has found his way home and in to the arms of his loved ones that passed before him. The only way to ease the heart ache is to allow yourself to be flooded with memories of the time you spent together, to smile and laugh and share with his friends and family, as he would want you to, even if you have to cry while doing so.

    My thoughts are with you.

  14. How completely fortunate you are to have had your father with you for so long - perhaps not long enough. You certainly must have a rush of memories now. Please consider sharing some of those memories. This surely is a time of reflection and wonder. You are in my thoughts.

Chelsi told me today about you losing your Dad. I am so sorry to hear that, although he lived to be 90 I know that it was still not nearly long enough. I lost my Dad a year ago June at the age of 90 and there are so many days that I go to the phone to share my thoughts or something that I know he would have enjoyed hearing about. The pain is still fresh, but I know that he was at peace when he left us and is now with his wife and son. Hugs to you and your family.

  41. Some german words for you.

  42. Hartmut,
Your beautiful words mean much to me.
The more beautiful and fuller the memory, the separation is the heavier. But the gratitude changes the memory into a quiet joy. One does not carry the past beautiful like a sting, but rather like a precious gift in itself.
