What I did today instead of cleaning

I awoke to a morning enshrouded in fog but was determined not to let all this dreariness get me down. It’s been like this for the past four or five days and although it was perfect for a funeral, I had to admit I was getting pretty tired of it.

I looked around my house and decided it needed a good cleaning. So I quickly made plans to get out of here and take my camera.

There’s a store I love to visit when I need cheering up. It’s a combination farm market, a greenhouse/nursery and a gift shop and is in Delaware off Rte. 13.

When I got there, I asked the people behind the desk if I had permission to take some pictures and they told me to have fun. So I walked around among artful displays of accoutrements, some beautiful flowers and then finally, the food store.

And I wasn’t disappointed.

Wiley's Market Mosaic

And then I came home, uploaded the photos into Flickr and visited Big Huge Labs where I made this mosaic.

And now I have some fun photos to share for the rest of the week. I posted the Leopard’s bane (bottom right photo) on my Picture A Day blog.

My husband just read me George’s horoscope. And well, here’s how it went:

Husband: Do you wanna hear  George’s horoscope for today?

Me: Horoscope? For a dog? Dogs don’t have horoscopes, honey.

Husband: Sshhh, he’ll hear you.

Me: (Rolling my eyes)

Husband: Ok, here goes:

You’re trying to make sense of a part of the world that is new to you. There is much to learn here but don’t ask questions out loud. Quiet observation is the fastest way to knowing all.

Me: Uh-huh.

Husband: Well, don’t you think that’s true? I mean, George is trying to make sense of how everything’s new this year. And he IS very quiet.

Me: He’s a dog, Andrew. It’s not like he’s going to ask questions out loud anyway.

Husband: Well, he’s quietly observing things. You have to admit that.

Me: Uh-huh.

Husband: I can see you rolling your eyes.

Me: Oh, I’m sorry you saw that. I thought the computer screen was hiding me.

DSC_0018 copy 2I kind of think it’s sweet that he actually reads the dog’s horoscope out loud. And I kind of think he’d kill me if he actually knew I was sitting here typing what he was saying. So I better go now.

Have a wonderful evening, all!

PS ~ I think I am in love with this little mug.

  3. Is it ok if I love your husband too? I mean, who can resist a man who reads the dog's horoscope? I guess I should check if it's ok with Larry too. And Riley for that matter.

I also wanted to thank you for your kind words about the blog update - if you are like me, you don't get back to see if your comment gets commented upon, but I did have a few thoughts about Word Press if you want to check it out. And I am glad you like it - that photographer's eye is always appreciated. ;)

  13. How could you not love a man who reads the dog's horoscope? Could he be any sweeter?

The mug is sweet - I can just imagine sipping a cup of tea from that mug, on the back porch on a cool evening.

  14. They have a website but no online store. Sorry about that. They're family owned and operated and I wonder if they'd mail you one of the mugs if you called them. That would be awesome if they would!

  19. What a great alternative to cleaning house! Your dialogue about the horoscope is so charming!
Well, after all it is all about George! I don't always leave a comment, Kate, but I do enjoy your journal and photography immensely.
Though I know everyone's experience is unique, I wanted to tell you that my younger son survived a malignant brain tumor at age 7 ...I will spare details...he is now 27...Hope and Grace and Love!
Some day I will tell you his Saint Jude story, and I mean the Saint, not the hospital! God bless you, your husband, and George!

  35. Really like the pretty mosaic. Didn't we go to that store one time I visited? I loved that place! Except I remember dealing with a small medical issue that day, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd have liked. Funny cat pictures too.

  36. I love it when a man loves animals, as yours obviously does. Lucky you Kate!

By the way, your header photo is so beautiful! I'm jealous. Maybe one day I'll figure out how you do all those fancy techniques. I have photoshop but I'm assuming it's an extra program you use.
