Cheese and crackers for lunch

After a morning of mundane errands, my husband asked if I would open ‘that other bottle of wine you bought yesterday’. I was surprised because it was early still, just after the lunch hour but we hadn’t eaten yet.

So we prepared a plate of cheese and crackers and took our glasses outside underneath the umbrella off the patio by the breakfast nook, and we had ourselves a lovely little time.

George joined us and seems to be posing in this doggie portrait of nobility.

I’m cracking myself up here.

Seriously, “a doggie portrait of nobility?”

The wine was a chardonnay from California’s Russian River Valley, a favorite of my husband’s. The crackers were Carr’s and the cheese was a sharp cheddar.

That may sound like the beginning of a lovely story, but really all we were doing was sitting outside under the umbrella enjoying the afternoon.

I came inside for the long lens at one point and snapped this picture of my husband and George through the screen in the breakfast nook.

George must have heard a squirrel.

It was a perfect September day which began with thick fog in the early hours. But by late morning, the sun was shining and the sky was blue.

This plane, which probably originated from Philadelphia Airport, travels west to points unknown.

And our favorite boy catches a frisbee in the yard as we sip our wine and enjoy each other’s company.

It was just that kind of day. And for that, I am thankful.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

A shout out to El and Seamus, family who live in Canada. Hi, El! Mum told me today that you read my blog and I just wanted to say “hello”!

  9. thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting! cheese and crackers with wine is pretty much my all time favorite food. I can (and often do) eat it for dinner or a snack. Occasionally for lunch (if there's no one around needing me becuase I'm worthless afterword!) Haven't tried it for breakfast, but I see no reason not to do so. Can we say mimosa?
Your blog looks wonderful and I am excited to meet a new bloggy friend... especially one with good taste in wine. Frei Bros is a fave here too...

  12. Certainly one of our favorite ways to spend an afternoon. Today though, we were both so busy that our shirt-tails never touched us all day! Till cocktail hour - Shiraz and pretzels and an all black dog. :)
