Wuthering Heights

I wish I could say that I took these photos. I really do.

My husband told me last night after dinner that it was going to be an interesting sunset.  And then he grabbed the camera and headed outside.

Did you know that wuthering is a Yorkshire word that refers to turbulent weather?

We had some turbulent weather before this sunset. It began to rain as I was pulling into our driveway and by the time I got into the house, it was a downpour. Turbulent. And we do live on a hill, hence the heights.

I can’t believe how beautiful it was last night and I love how the setting sun is playing off those dark clouds, and the deep blue of the sky.

Oh my, oh my, oh my.

There’s where I was sitting, right there in the living room in my favorite spot. I was probably writing yesterday’s post. Or playing in Photoshop.

I am so glad he took the camera outside. What a surprise to see these beautiful photos on the memory card just now. I love all the dramatic colors.

These last two are my favorites.

On another note, I loved reading your comments on yesterday’s post about Ken Burns’ national parks film that’s airing all this week. My husband and I would love to see some of the parks in the west. It’s something to aspire to, anyway.

Thanks to everyone who comes by here to visit. You make it worth the effort and I’m glad to have you as my guests. Until tomorrow, then . . .

  1. Well, those photos are all kinds of glorious! (Even if they were taken by the hubs. Don't tell him I said so ;-)

  2. May I just say...WOW? Is that going to be your home's new name?

I am one of those that loves to name places but I have yet to come up with a name for ours except the main house.

Good job on the photos, hubby!

  6. Amazing shots - and I liked the last two as well. Didn't know that about the word wuthering! I thought it was a family name.
Now how lucky are you being able to send your beloved out to take the shots while you play on photoshop! What a life!

  8. How come my husband doesn't take pictures like this? Incredible Kate! Make sure to tell your husband how incredible his photos are and how much we enjoy them.

I like the last two also but the one with the light on in the window has meaning to it. I can almost see you! ; )

  9. ...Great stuff Country Boy! Kate, you really should let him play with your camera more often... ;o)

..."Wuthering Heights", is that the name of your place? I like it. :o) If I could name our place I'd call it "Wits End", 'cause we are at our wits end with it sometimes...lol But I do call it "The Humble Homestead" 'cause seriously, that's what it is...

    ...Blessings dear girl... :o)

  14. Stunning, what an amazing sky! The last two are my favorites also but they all are wonderful. I've always felt that God gives us beautiful sunsets to add a sense of peace after our long crazy and sometimes difficult days. Thanks Kate for sharing with us and thank you Lord for the wonderful sunsets. Jeanne

  21. I'm a reader, not a blogger. But, I wanted to comment on the pictures your husband took. They are beautiful......as are yours daily. I was at North East Pa. yesterday and wish I had a camera to take a picture. The weather there was turbulent too, and the lake was POWERFUL.

  24. The second to last one is absolutely my favorite one...looks like water color paintings.

    I just love it, really.

You were correct about the song Shenandoah, it has been around since the civil war, but is credited to several different groups.

  26. Beautiful shots congratulations to your husband for capturing the mood. I love this time of year when it is cold and blistering outside and we can sit comfortably in our warm living rooms (and play with photoshop).

  30. I enjoyed the images of the house as much as the clouds! I noticed the widow's walk on the top of the roof.

I believe that is a sailing term if I remember right -- I am too lazy this morning to look it up! Heh!!

I have not seen the series on national parks but will try to remember to take a look tonight.

    Take care.

  31. It is amazing what a difference a few big black clouds can make to the sunset isn't it? Super photographs.

  32. So gorgeous! We have sunsets like that in Santa Fe. Here, in PA, we get more pastel colors. Absolutely amazing how the Universe provides us with such beauty.

  33. Amazing photos, even if you did not take them. Yes "wuthering" is a Yorkshire word, there are lots of wonderful dialect words around but many are dying out now as our old people who use them most are heading off.

    Try "brant" = high, tall

"snicket" = small passage, alleyway or other narrow opening such as through a hedge

My grandma used to say, "ee, I'm fair mafted" It meant very hot and used to make us giggle like mad!
