That hushed feeling you get

My visit to Connecticut this past weekend included a stop at this church, where my friend Lauren had an errand to run. This is the church that Annie & Lauren belong to and l was glad to have been invited inside. Daryl and I made sure we had our cameras with us.

I love old buildings such as this, and a hallowed and hushed feeling came over me when I entered.

The leaded stained glass windows with their architectural detail are just so wonderful.

Inside, the choir is practicing which is just our luck, for it only added to the beauty.

Inside one of the little rooms hangs a beautiful and very very old tapestry. I had the 50mm lens on the camera, hence the close-ups.

I just love how this shot of a candlestick looks with its stained glass bokeh.

I can see why they love this old church so much. It just feels so darn good to be inside.

And safe.

And loved.

If that makes any sense.

I am slowly but surely getting into the spirit of Christmas, and today my husband and I received a big beautiful potted poinsettia, the likes of which I’ve never had before. It was sent to us by a kind couple who I’m sure would wish to remain anonymous. So I’ll just say that it touched my heart and it looks beautiful in this old house.

    You can always get me with photos of old churches - what a lovely one! And I came to see if my darned feed was finally fixed and it is - now it doesn't say that the last time I posted was 4 weeks ago. And if you give the recipe I posted today to your husband, I bet he will make them. You will be glad. :)

    Just breathtaking. Can't even imagine the acoustics. I love all teh blues in these pictures - each one has blue, however faint. The ribbon on the wreath in the first picture is an unexpected blue. Gorgeous.

    Such a gorgeous church. Love the stained glass and the old tapestries as well and definately that all consuming feeling that you feel when you enter.

    I almost bought a poinsettia this past week-end. Love the fact that they last so long even considering the fact that I have no green thumbs at all.

    What a lovely old church...I live in Connecticut, where we have many many old churches. Our tiny little town boasts a beautiful 250 year old congregational church. While I was raised a Catholic, I am not particularly religious, but there is definitely peace and comfort in these old buildings...and the stained glass is ethereal.

    I love the way blogs keep me connected to my home s of 23 years, Washington DC and Maryland. I moved to V 4 years ago, I try to really feel at home here, but I do miss my old home very very much. I simply loved living there, the people, the country, most everything. I am grateful for people like you who share their world with me, keeping me does connected with what I love.

    I do not manage to always respond to the comments on my side, but it is a joy for me to come visit in return and catch up with the latest posts.

    WOW! You make it look so beautiful. It is a special place--St. Paul's--and the blue ribbons are the color of Advent. They go to red right before Christmas Eve. I wish you would come back soon! xoxo, Lauren

    I am so in awe of the choir shot .. mine was so dark .. I 'fixed' it and now it looks weird but interesting and I was going to post it but now I am not ... ha ... but I do have a weekend post up at 3 pm today .. none of the church pix in it .. not sure how I forgot to do that
