Another winner, and welcome Twenty Ten

It was so wonderful reading your plans for New Year’s Eve last night while I sat home watching tv in my pajamas and my sheep slippers. My husband had gone to bed early and I stayed up watching the Turner Classic Movie channel where they were hosting a Thin Man marathon. At midnight, fireworks went off around here and George came running over to me, scared. So I kissed him and wished him “Happy New Year” and we went out front where the noise was even louder.

I loved reading your responses to my question “what are you planning on doing for New Year’s Eve?” Readers from as far away as Norway, Australia, Canada, and Japan wrote in. And while I was praying, “dear Lord, don’t let anyone in another country win because I cannot afford the postage”, low and behold, number 65 came up. Congratulations to Debra/aka Mimi, a long-time reader who, to my knowledge, has never won a prize here yet.

Debra, your prize will be on its way as soon as you e-mail me your address. Debra will receive a standout print of the red cardinal that I took during the snowstorm last month.

Hope you’re all enjoying your day. Happy New Year to all and welcome to so many new readers. Must be that cardinal over on PW’s site. I read the comments over there, and some were asking if the print was available for sale. I was tempted, really tempted to put a comment in saying YES, it’s available and here’s my etsy site. But I thought that would be rude. (You know it would, too). I’m just happy that it got featured.

Cheers, all! My husband is in the kitchen doing something wonderful, George is curled up on the sofa asleep, there are fox prints all around the property, and I wish you all a year filled with goodness.

Love,

Oh, and PS ~ Here’s the proof.

  5. Congratulations Debra/Mimi - lucky you -I love that picture (of course I love all of Kate's pictures). Kate, may I change my desktop background for this one?
Lovely day here today, steady soft snow since early this morning - just watching a parade of dogs go by on the golf course - it gets turned into an unofficial dog run and cross country ski track in the winter.

  9. Congratulations to the winner of this shot. I am salivating over its beauty and clarity.

I have camera envy. How do you decide which lens to use? Do you seek the photos to fit the lens or do you change during the taking?

Kate I hope your Cardinals are smarter than the ones here. I have one cardinal that keeps slamming into my windows all day long...starting at 6am.

  11. How I love your red cardinal Kate. I do wish we had them here in UK. I managed to see one last year when we were in San Antonio but not as near a view as your fabulous photograph. It is wonderful.
A Happy new year to you both - and may I wish your husband better health too.

  20. Congrats to winner, and to you Deb for looking like a STAND OUT at Ree's place today! So exciting...

BTW I use my advertising revenue (as pitiful as it is) to cover my postage costs for contests/giveaways. Most of my readers are American and Canadian so it makes sense.

  36. Cardinals cheer me up. I think it is their sole purpose in nature to cheer the observer that spots his red plumage bobbing on a power line or hopping through the snow.

    Happy New Year.

  42. Amazing picture and well worth any amount of money, but I know that isn't your intention. I have the most beautiful Border Collie calendar hung up in my office and September resembles George very much. Not as beautiful as George of course but still adorable.

    Best wishes, CJ xx
