Parchment crumbles, my words fade

Brittle grass crunches under my feet as I make my way to the garden.

At the gate, soft swirls of pink rise up to greet me, thirsty for rain.

Spent morning glories from today. There are plenty more to take their place tomorrow and for months to come.

These photos were all taken with my Nikon 60mm macro lens, the lens closest to my heart. (Please don’t tell my other lenses). A macro (micro) lens allows you to get up close and personal, much closer than you would with a normal lens in the macro setting.

It was worth every penny I paid for it. In fact, I began my blog the night I bought it in December 2007 and this was my very first real post. (Don’t worry, it’s short).

If you click here, you’ll see the very first post I wrote on George. I think he looks like he’s wearing a baby bonnet. He looks very different today.

He looks like a

SOOPAH – STAH !!!

Until tomorrow, then

  1. My morning glories are reaching for the heavens but NO buds?! I miss them. Everything here is getting crumbly and brown despite our efforts to water....think I shall do a blog post on that! :)

    I covet a macro lens.

  6. George is indeed a soopah-stah. He's absolutely georgeous! A dog deserving of his own adjective.

And it's definitely the photographer, not the lens. Beautiful morning glories.

  12. OK, I was ooing and aaahing over the gorgeous photos and then said what the hay, I'll click on the original George post to see what's up, and O.M.G.

If you hadn't said "I think it looks like he's wearing a baby's bonnet," I might have thought it was just a younger image of George and that would have been it.

But the image of George wearing a baby's bonnet is hilarious.

And so very accurate. Thank you for that laugh.

  13. Morning glories (Heavenly Blue) are on my top ten list. I love those tightly wound buds that turn into fairy dresses over night. I have some trying to survive our stupid cold weather. Would share it with you if I could.

Awww about the George puppy pic.

  17. Morning Glories when you put your nose in one and breath in they trap your nose...I loved doing this as a kid. George is superb!

  18. Good morning Deb. Isn't it wonderful how the camera finds beauty in the simplest things like the design of spent morning glories. I loved seeing your border collie. I share my home with several cats and a BC, Aggie, better known as psycho dog:)

My tomatoes are almost ripe and I want to make that tomato/mozzarella salad you showed on a previous blog. Yum, it looks so good.

  21. I never realized how beautifully exquisite the spirials of a morning glory bud are until I saw this first photo of yours Kate...that is a SOOPAH STAR photo!

I still only have the kit lens with my new camera and I'm trying to decide what to get next...the 50mm or a telephoto...which do you use the most?

  24. I really do luv morning glories, but they are on the top 5 hit list this year.

The MG, along with a couple of other very invasive and very persistent weeds/vines have not been welcomed in the yard.

I've been on a personal vendetta to remove them all before they seed. We have a horrible plant that has stickers and a jillon seeds that is also #1 on the list.

I do love your pictures. Beautiful captures.

Love your photography. AND jealous of the lens you have. Someday... me too, sighs.

On another note, we had rain today!
