For the past week, I’ve been using the 50mm lens more and more often. I miss the macro but it’s good to miss something now and then, don’t you think?
I sat in front of this screen, blank except for the three photos you see here, wondering what it was that I wanted to say, when I realized that all I wanted to do was to share the photos.
There is a whisper of fall in the air and I’m ready to be through with this summer.
I like spring, but it is too young. I like summer, but it is too proud. So I like best of all autumn, because its tone is mellower, its colours are richer, and it is tinged with a little sorrow. Its golden richness speaks not of the innocence of spring, nor the power of summer, but of the mellowness and kindly wisdom of approaching age. It knows the limitations of life and its content. ~ Lin Yutang
We are so blessed to live where we do, in this old manor house on historic ground. Sometimes, if I let myself, I can almost picture how it used to be and how beautiful it could be again with some tender loving care.
And plenty of money.
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game.
~ Joni Mitchell
Have a beautiful day, all. And as ever, thanks for stopping by.
Until tomorrow, then . . .
Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos and the beautiful poems. I love coming here to visit....it's always a peaceful place:)
ReplyDeleteFall is my absolute favorite time of year in Wisconsin. Alas, there is no such thing in Florida. Only cool, hot and dog-kickin' hot. (Kes hates that time of year, and who could blame her?) I just want you to know that I'll be living Autumn vicariously through you this year, Kate. I just want you to know ahead of time. No pressure, of course! ;-)

Great captures...I would be missing my macro too...but you're right, it's a good miss and makes you appreciate the little things.
ReplyDeleteYou knew I would love the sunflower photo! :) Thanks for sharing! I have a 30 mm lens, but I Find I rarely use it outside, usually save it for indoors or portraits. I covet a 50 mm, maybe for my birthday!
ReplyDeleteDon't sing autumn's praises yet, I fear one more heat wave is out there waiting to get us!
beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am an autumn person too...that quote of Lin Yutang's says it perfectly....
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, beautiful post, Kate. Gorgeous photos and thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...SOOOOOOO READY FOR FALL!
ReplyDeleteIt's already making appearances here in Boone, NC.
The leaves won't be changing anytime soon, but I'll be breaking out the tights and knee high boots :D
I like the idea of the carousel for time going on and on and round and round - and yes, Autumn is already here in the North of the UK
ReplyDeleteI really love this transition time of year and love that quote by Lin Yutang. I am ready for crisp days and football and chili... yum.
ReplyDeletelove your post today... feeling some of the same things.
ReplyDeleteLovely....smiles.
ReplyDeleteThis right here is perfection;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous sunflower shot!
ReplyDeletevery mellow this evening.... and I found that same quote.... feel just like that....a little age makes it all so much better.... :}
ReplyDeleteAutumn is a sad time for me. I can't help it. I always feel melancholy when it's clear that summer is nearing an end. It's like seeing the signs that a relationship is over, but no one's actually voiced their goodbyes yet.
ReplyDeleteSummer is, hands down, my favourite time of year with Spring coming a close second. Summer never lasts long enough for me. That's why, when I vacation, I head for warmer climes.
I love Joni Mitchell ... Fall and Spring are my favorites because they are mild .. no extremes like winter and summer temps ... and because I like wearing a sweater ...
ReplyDeletei'm craving fall. want it right here, right now.
ReplyDeletebeautiful shots.
Love the last photo and of course the circle game ...
ReplyDeleteFall is my very favorite time of year as well. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful area! As always - I enjoyed the photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely post...I couldn't agree more...they beauty of autumn is in it's melancholy nature...knowing that all this beauty is fleeting and will soon be gone...makes it all the more precious.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures. And I, too, love fall the best.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
OK now I have that Joni Mitchell song in my head and I've been transported back to my high school days. All this from just enjoying your latest post. And bonus is that darling image of George. ~Lili
