Bottoms up

It’s Wednesday night as I write this and I’m in my usual Wednesday position, which is on the loveseat in the living room, watching Survivor. If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know it’s one of our favorite shows.

When I say our, I mean my husband and I.

George likes Jerseylicious, a nasty little habit he picked up from one of the dogs in the nearby development. I hear him down here with the TV on after we go up to bed.

Today, I found these in the camera disk.

These were all taken today by my husband. This little sparrow has one of the red berries from the dogwood tree in his beak.

I think this is a Harris’ sparrow.

Annie? Kerri? Any other birders out there?

Bottoms up!

You can tell we live on a hill in this photograph.  That’s the garden you see in the foreground, covered with morning glories around the fence line on either side.

The trees are really beginning to show their color.

A bucolic view from the hill, just through the trees from the property.

Tilt the camera just a bit lower, and the real view comes into play.

I love finding surprises on the camera disk and seeing the view through my husband’s eyes.
And I love that you visit. Thanks for coming by today.

Any weekend plans that you’d like to share? I’m cleaning and doing some more windows. Maybe picking up some pumpkins to carve.

  4. Every once in a while I find a surprise on my camera too, but usually it's a grainy shot of raccoons eating out of the bird feeder at night. Love the beauty you found on yours today! ~Lili

  11. Unfortunately I find sparrow and finch fellows to be totally confusing...just when I think I have one figured out I find I don't. Dammit.
Don't forget to save those morning glory seeds! Some for you and some for me. Believe me, you will have unbelievable beauty next summer!
(Either pull off the seed heads and dump them in a bag, or rub the seed head between your fingers - you'll eventually have 4 perfect little roundish black seeds.)
    Don't clean too many windows!

No plans yet for the weekend...I'm thinking maybe a short road trip just so I don't end up cleaning...

  13. Since I live in AZ I am really enjoying the fall photos. The colors are beautiful.

I'm driving down to the valley"Phoenix" to watch my granddaughters first dance recital. Then I'll play with Grace and Noah the rest of the week-end. Oh the joys of being a Mema>

  14. This weekend my lovely wife and I are taking a little road trip to Salem Or to see her Aunt.

We have never used a GPS navigator before, so this should really be an experience. It's about a four hour drive each way. So, Im sure we will be bone tired by the time we finally get home.

Hope you have a pleasant weekend.

  15. Alas, no surprises on my camera, although I did pack it of in the hands of my youngest niece the other day to see if she could get some pictures of the rest of my nieces. Whenever their favorite (hairiest at least) uncle points a camera at them the present the back of a head or dive under a table - there's teenage girls for you.

  16. I've got that driving itch too... alas, the dogs. Can't. So... maybe a trip to Yankee Candle. Like I need more candles :0/

Funny, I'de never have guessed in your bucolic (sp?) setting there would be urban sprawl just down the hill.

  19. Sparrows are confusing to me too but they are loving my feeders these days. We're heading to northern Vermont to close up our summer place this weekend. It's a little bit sad but what a great season we've had this year! I'm ready for the holidays/winter anyway...bring it on! :)

  21. Those pictures are beautiful. I especially love the first two - the color of the bird blends perfectly in with the background.

Try not to wash too many windows, they say that's bad for you. Well, I say it is, anyway.

  22. Well, you are correct in your bird identification. It's a Harris's Sparrow. I like it's little pink bill. and the spots that are on each side of his belly and his v-neck striped feathers under his chin. You did good..

  23. I know what you mean, picking up the camera and realising there are photos taken still on there that you had forgotten about is such a lovely surprise!

no plans for the weekend, other than the usual "do whatever comes up". The trees here have finally decided to turn colours so maybe I'll go out and snap a few pics....
I watched one episode of Jersylicious.......couldn't stand another though....George needs new friends!!!! wouldn't want to see him bronzed and over coiffed!!!

  25. Wow, you live in such a beautiful place.

My weekend plans involve working for 1/2 a day on my day off (blech!) and then meeting with the dressmaker for a fitting of "The Dress". I'm really hoping that I can sleep in on Sunday and spend the day relaxing a bit.

  26. What a fantastic place ya'll live on. Such spectacular scenery.

We might go to New Orleans on Saturday. But, one thing we need to do is buy cowboy boots for both of us. I blew the sole out on mine and my hubbies are just worn out.

    Might go fishing on Sunday.

  27. Seeing your tree color really makes me excited. Ours is right around the corner here in Ga. Seeing your bird with it's dogwood seed reminds me yesterday the children and I took a golf cart ride around our property and you could sense an urgency in the squirrels as they gathered and buried their food. Hope we don't have a bad winter in store.

  33. I miss Maryland so much. These photos actually made me cry.

I have lived all over the world and I never thought I would be attached to any particular place. I am so very attached to Maryland and I must must must find my way back home.

  34. Lovely photos! I love Morning Glories and that is a beautiful screen around the garden. This weekend I will be attending a required annual Drivers Safety training because I drive a vanpool of 5 coworkers. After that I will spend time with my son and my puppy (I’m the one with the new Border Collie puppy named Ashley.)
