I promised myself I wouldn’t whine on this blog and I certainly don’t intend to start. But it’s a fact that sometimes my husband’s moods are more than I can handle.
Sometimes it’s a roller coaster, man.
So imagine my surprise tonight, when after a slew of rough days, I dined by moonlight and candlelight with my husband while we listened to Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass on that website he found. He’d made roasted chicken, baked yams, and carrots and peas. And oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
I can’t believe how happy this simple meal made me feel. It almost made up for all the bullshit I put up with this week.
Apologies for cursing. It’s not something you’ll normally see here. But it was the best word I could think of for what I’m trying to convey.
Love hurts.
But it’s so darn worth it, isn’t it?
And now for the candles. Oh yes, there’s more candles.
And they’re on sale, just in time for you-know-what.
I first saw Jimmy Belasco candles last year on the Pioneer Woman’s website and I ordered a couple of them just to check them out. And I fell in love. The soy candles have the most wonderful scents and they last a long time. The company’s goal is “to make the most fragrant candles on the planet, using the finest ingredients on the planet.” I also love that $5 of each purchase goes to a charity of your choice.
I got an e-mail from the company today, offering some of their best sellers on sale. And it’s quite the sale, too. Nine different scents are reduced plus there’s free shipping when you purchase three or more candles. But it won’t last long.
On sale are
- SEXE (the #1 selling year round fragrance)
- Absinthe (the #2 selling year round fragrance)
- Thai Ginger Citrus (the #3 selling year round fragrance)
- Merry Merry Cranberry (the #1 selling Holiday fragrance)
- LOVE (only $18 to introduce the new formula)
- Orange Cranberry (holiday fragrance w/o cinnamon)
- Roman Bath (the perfect spa fragrance)
- Pom Passion (pomegranate passionfruit)
- Oriental Musk (one of Jimmy's favorites)
Please note that I get no compensation from Jimmy Belasco. I just know a good candle when I see one and I like sharing a good deal with my friends.
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .
Sorry you had a tough week with Mr. You-Know-Who. Glad he started your weekend off really nicely and sweetly. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely evening! I have a difficult one at times as well and put up with more than my fair share of BS at times too. MEN!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
The first two pictures are breathtaking, and very evocative; fitting! Yes, love hurts (human OR animal), but I can't imagine life without it/them. And as someone has said, how would we know we are alive without the highs AND the lows?
ReplyDeleteYou certainly can whine if you want....what are friends for anyway???
ReplyDeleteMen....we are doomed to try to figure it out the best we can.
BTW, what color is your coat?
Can't live with `em. . .
ReplyDeleteyou lift the private and mundane to the level of art with your posts. . .

Love the texture in the first photo! What did you use? I would like to try it on some of my photos :)
ReplyDeleteI love a good deal and a good candle! I would love to try these out and can't remember why I didn't the last time you posted about them!
ReplyDeleteIt's from Jerry Jones at Shadowhouse Creations. It's called falling apart. I thought I downloaded it from his blog but I can't find it. Maybe I found it on his Flickr site.

Have a "nice, relaxing" weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou deserved that meal, Kate! Damn him. lol! At least the week ended on a high note. Hopefully the week-end will continue to be up beat.
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe over Cloudia's fish up above. Too cool!
TGIF big time!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the first photo tonight. With the photo actions you applied, I keep looking for an outline of Santa and his reindeer flying over the moon.
Hang in there Kate. Next week's a short one at work.
Please don't pimp for PW; she's a marketing grad, knows how to work it (if you know what I mean).
ReplyDeleteYou are the real deal.
I'm always relaxed n soothed by my visits here - cursing or not. (It's your blog, you can whine if you wanna!) Pretty prose, soothings scents and a home cooked meal by a manic man are all good. Hope the week ahead brings you even more to be thankful for!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Leslie
What a lovely gesture, Kate. How wonderful when a simple, thoughtful thing can bring us such joy. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Love hurts but is SO worth it! It is the little moments we sometimes need to cling to in order to get through the rough ones.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for enabling me to get addicted to yet another product!
Glad your evening made up for the BS! And sometimes you just have to tell it like it is!
ReplyDeleteI'm off to check out the candles...do they burn really cleanly? Okay, I'm a weirdo to ask that...but hey!
Have a great weekend!
Kat :)
I spent most of last year with a very sick husband. It can be really difficult and trying. You never think when you say those vows in sickness and in health, that you'll be living them daily. Hoping you have a wonderful week end.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lovely evening! Well done that hubby!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely in love with the top two photos! Especially the one with the moon! Beautiful!

Hi Kate - just started following your blog....well I just HAD to after the husband episode....I can relate!
ReplyDeleteKate, that first photo is beautiful. Love what you did with it, love the "feel". It would make an excellent Peace on Earth card.
ReplyDeleteAnd ooooh, do I know those weeks full of bullshit. But..a night like yours... absolutely worth it. Most of the time. :-)
dear kate.....at least yours can cook....after a week of bs I would not get such a fabulous meal...but we all have our burdens!!!! :) ♥
ReplyDeleteenjoy your day....chicken sandwiches for lunch??
M
it's always nice to recover from a bad week with something special...nice photos...
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to end the week. Bullshit comes and bullshit goes. It's always nice to see it leave.
ReplyDeleteAs always, you make me want to dash right over and buy some of those candles. Going to go check it out now.
I am so going shopping there today. And I'm so coming for dinner soon.....
ReplyDeletethose moods....i know them.....the bullshit....yep, had a bit of that myself here, too....but yes, love hurts but would we ever do without it....
ReplyDeleteWe're burning pumpkin candles right now - and they are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love how even when you are 'whinging' you do it in a pretty way! That takes skill...
ReplyDeleteLove candles but rarely think to use them - would probably burn the place down knowing me!
:-)

((hugs))
ReplyDeleteCrazy love and roller coasters and cursing and moons that can make you weep, oh CG, tis the best of all there is.
ReplyDeleteVan Morrison -- love that song. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd hopefully, that is the song that will stick in my brain today, rather than "Love Stinks," which is also suggesting itself... lol
Glad your weekend is looking up! Love those images!
xoxo
Thai ginger citrus sounds yum
ReplyDeleteSometimes luv does stink and I don't mean marriage. My bro is driving us bonkers right now.....
ReplyDeleteWe have to bite our tongues sometimes not to tell him off and I really don't think he knows how rude or arrogant he comes off a lot of times.
I hear ya... have myself quite the mr. moody as well. glad he came to his senses and did something to make you feel better, sometimes that's all you need.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a rough week. I'm glad that the dinner cheered you up though. In my life I have noticed that it is usually the little things that keep me going and keep me happy.
