Was it Roger Tory Peterson who said a purple finch looks like a sparrow that had been dipped in raspberry juice? When the purple finches come back to Maine, I declare winter to be over. I listen for their song come mid March. Only a month left, maybe.
Love the picture of the finch...you caught him just at the right moment..made him look so cool.wild thing as the song goes. He almost looks like he was posing.. When a picture turns out this good it's just not hard to be a little proud.. Good Job~! Have a Tiggeriffic Day~! Ta Ta For Now from Iowa~!
Is the little red one some sort of finch? The belly sort of reminds me of a-- a house finch-- or something like it?
They're so precious. One peaked in my window one day, just over the ledge, and caught my eye and imagination. I couldn't move for fear he'd fly away. He looked so curiously into my house, eating the seeds that had fallen on the window ledge from the feeder. Probably thinking "Lady--you need to dust!"
Beautiful, sweet little gifts from above!
I don't know my birds like Mama did. I just know I love your photos of them-- AND--your songs that go with them. What a fun post.
There is a drink at my favorite restaurant that is called Swamp Thing...very powerful and when I order it...I sing "Wild Thing" song!! Ha! Just had to throw that in. Love the photos! Fabulous! Congrats on your POTW!!! Hugs SueAnn
(I just joined facebook and have already "shared" or whatever it's called, two silly bird thingys.. and have a third I'm trying to decide whether to post or use there. You made me brave. My photos won't be as spectacular, but oh well. )
and I admit to peeking while away to see if I won. :(
i wont stay here long for fear it will get stuck in my head this day..come to think of it I could sing it with my preschoolers..the birds are stunning as always!!
