What floats your boat

We’re having a decent, drenching rain here as I write this. And it’s about time, frankly. I love the smell of a summer rain and we had as many windows open as we could until it really began coming down. Summer is not my favorite season but there are so many things that I love about it.

Tomato sandwiches are one.

Sunflowers are another.

I took this photo yesterday evening. The sunflowers are so tall that I had to stand on a chair, then lift my arms over my head with the focus set to automatic while I slowly hit the shutter, moving the camera ever so slightly to adjust the composition. But it worked. And I’m happy with this shot.

: : :

I haven’t been out and about in blogland much this week and have much catching up to do. But I did see a few things to share with you.

This week, I was

inspired – by this post

heartened – by this post

sighing – from this post

And at this post, I took a quick quiz and found out I am 90% weird.

Seriously? 90% weird?

DSC_0387 copy 2

George doesn’t care if I’m weird.

He loves me unconditionally . . .

. . . despite my many quirks.

I moved the pool to somewhere different and the change of scenery is very pleasant.

So what floats your boat about summertime?

And how weird are you?

  1. I'm 50% weird.

I love the gardens, the warm summer rains (we're about to get what you've been getting)... The smell of fresh cut hay, BLUEBERRIES!... not having to dress warm to take care of the horses at the barn. And now the chickens too. Flipflops and sandy toes.

  2. well, i'm right behind you at 60% weird...
You're so weird, you think you're *totally* normal. Right?
But you wig out even the biggest of circus freaks!

    :)

the sunflower turned out great! and glad you made it thru the photo session safely!

  3. I'm pretty sure I am at least 90% weird as well, maybe even 100.

And thank you so much for the mention. I love, love, love the sunflower shot, so cool that you took it the way you did!

  4. George loves you because you're weird.
Actually I was only 30% and I know it's wrong because I'm off my rocker.

I'm craving Taco Bell's strawberry colada Fruitistas!!

  5. I found out I am 50% weird, but that's OK. I loved listening to the birds in France as I read about the countryside -- sooo restful. I'll have to revisit that! Thanks for the tips - I rally loved them all!!

  6. I am 30% apparently, but like Grandma J am sure the result is skewed to make me seem more normal that I actually am!

I am in love with those pics of the French countryside (le sigh). My boat was well and truly floated...

Have a great day Kate (and friends!)

  10. Like Kary, I'm 40% weird. Like your George my Chloe and SueSue don't care whether I'm weird or not. I'm just mom.

Sunflowers must be bursting out all over. I did a post yesterday on sunflowers.

Blue Bell Country Vanilla... mmmm good. Good on it's own or doctored up in whatever I fancy at the moment.

If I had a pool I'd be in the water every day.

  11. Such a colorful summer, sunbathing, swimming setup you have! Love it! Looks like my kinda spot!

George looks like he's sleeping! No squirrels to watch I guess! He makes me smile!

What a great shot of the sunflower! I can't believe you were standing on a chair!

  12. Very weird. Summer is not my season either but I just polished off strawberry shortcake with berries from our local farmers and nothing beats that so THAT is what I love about Summer. I so enjoy your photographs and give that George a big hug for me. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm only 30% weird, kind of disappointing really.

  19. Hi Kate! I love your sunflower photo! And most likely being 90% weird is a very good thing. :)

Thank you, thank you, kind friend, for including the link to my France post. Much appreciated.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend! - g

  20. Just so you know, I've been reading from this post for about an hour!!! Loved all of the links, but geez louise I was lost in never never land for a bit! ;-)

And I'm only 50% weird, which is weird in and of itself because I consider myself much weirder than that!

    Kat :)

  22. I'm only 50% weird. Huh. That's oddly disappointing....

Love the sunflower photo - is that a spider on the lower leaf?

Everything about summer floats my boat. LOVE it. I'll take your share of summer, if you'll take my portion of winter. *smile*

  23. I am pretty sure that someone cannot be 90% weird and take a photo of a sunflower that beautiful ..

    ReplyDelete
  24. thank you for you know what...i adore you !

and i would totally sit by that pool with you all afternoon, even if i am only 20% weird. but i shared that with my family, which happens to all be here at the moment, and they laughed their heads off and said no way.....you're 100% weird.

i gun it through yellow lights, fight for parking spots and don't sleep in the nude.

obviously you are more of a rule follower, nicer then me and sleep buck naked.....LOL

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh and that sunflower.....WOW !!!

  26. I am 100% weird so we should get along well!! LOVE the sunflower pic, can you out it on Etsy so I can guy it?

    What floats my boat -
    my flower beds
a nice cup of coffee enjoyed on my back deck early in the morning, preferably in my pj's and a book/magazine in hand.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think I'm about 101% weird. I've taken tests that prove it!
Not many people can say they moved the pool to a better location, however!
In summer, I like long days.
    Bless you.

  28. Frankly, I am disappointed in myself...I am only 40% weird. That amazes me because I really, truly would have said I was at the top of the weird scale.

What floats my boat in the summertime?

Cool breezes, morning walks, the smell of horses and unconditional love...but that could be during any season.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Everyone is weird! Embrace it :D I love love love your sunflower picture. My poor sunflower has wilted away to nothing in the Arizona summer heat.
My Boat Floating Goes To: The smell of fresh cut grass. Sand on my toes. The silence of bedtime.

  30. Ha! 30% weird. I really thought I'd be much weirder...LOL.

Great posts and blogs you linked us to today! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  31. Sometimes its good to be away from Blogland.... Can't miss this beautiful summer weather while we have it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Like you, Summer rain comes high on the list - that gentle rain that makes everything smell lovely and grow rapidly overnight. Strawberries are another.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wow! What a lovely sunflower almost a masterpiece.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gotta love portable pools!

Only 60% weird. Of course, I thought I'd be weirder, being missing the mom gene, the cooking gene, standing in lines gene, having no patience for fools gene ....

Love the sunflower shot and how you captured it! You chose great posts and blog to feature. Love those guys!

Hope your weekend is swimmingly fun! Make sure to put on the sunscreen!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Probably 99% "unique"... hahaha

    Lovely sunflower.

  36. Don't need to do the quiz to know I am at least 90% weird!!! Love your Summer photos, we are having such a cold, grey and damp Winter...

    ReplyDelete
  37. You did a great job capturing that sunflower. Nice!

    I'm 50% weird... I'm so wishy-washy.

    ReplyDelete
  38. LOL I got forty percent weird hehe. :) Not as bad as I expected.

I love summer for the sunshine, dry ground (hate mud lol), pretty colors (not brown and drab), warmth (get cold easily), swimming, longer days, etc. The only things I don't like about summer are the bugs and the humidity. :D Great post!

    ReplyDelete
  39. isnt that a great thing? to be 90% weird. because that means you are your own person. not many like you around. i like that!

    ReplyDelete
  40. That village in France has me in raptures. Hope to get to the continent later this year, so I've tucked the name away in my little travel planner.

That sunflower photo is so beautiful. We're in the middle of winter over here in Queensland so I'm enjoying pansies and camellias.

Love the interesting mix of things today.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I bet it would say I'm 101% weird :)
I can't believe I'm saying this ... but I think I LOVE all of the Little Creatures you see in summer time - that just aren't out in the winter. You see some in spring and some in fall but most in the summer.
Your images are lovely Kate .... George is as handsome as ever :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I got 50% weird, and the explanation:

Normal enough to know that you're weird...
But too damn weird to do anything about it!

Maybe that is why I prefer Ben & Jerry's Half-Baked!

    hahahahaha!

Haven't commented in a while, but am still lurking about, stalking you on Google Reader! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm only 40% weird... now I'm feeling weirdness-deprived. :)

I seriously LOVE that sunflower pic -- soooo beautiful! And I would have to say that one of things about summer that floats my boat is early morning, when it is still cool and maybe a little foggy... and oh yes, tomato bruschetta!
    xoxo

  44. I like the 90% weird. Some of my best friends are that weird. I was disappointed to get 40% score--I'll have to work on getting weirder! Your sunflower is exquisite, Kate. All that unfolding to come! Oh, and I also love your generosity in sharing links to new blogs. Thank you so much! ;o)

  45. Untested but 100% attested to .. I am completely weird ... weird is good, normal is so very dull.
