  29. ((((((Kate)))))),

    I'm so sorry. I just ache for you and your sons. Too soon ... way too soon.

    You will be blessed for the care and the love you showed him during his next steps. One day, that will bring you comfort ... you did what you had to do and you did what he needed/deserved.

    Pay attention over the next few days ... he will find a way to let you know that he made it safely to the other side. You might want to read this some day ... everyone, everyone that I tell about this, experiences it: http://preview.tinyurl.com/knaxbe Watch the small creatures ... they will bring a message for you.

    I'll say a prayer for him (and you and your sons, too) tonight just before I go to bed.

    Blessings. Love. Hugs.

  95. Dearest Kate,

    My heart aches for you and your family. I wish for you peace in this trying time.

    Have you ever heard of Rescue Remedy? It's a holistic product you can get at health food stores and, when a few drops are added to their water, it helps to relieve anxiety in pets. I'm sure George is feeling this great loss, as well. May I be so bold as to suggest you put some of Andrew's dirty clothes out where he can nestle in them and smell his scent? It may help with his grieving process, too.

    I'm profoundly sorry for your loss. xoxoxo

  98. Dearest Kate,
    I knew there was a reason why I visited you first this morning. I only wish it wasn't this reason. When I recently found your blog, I knew instantly by the way you wrote about the love and compassion you had for your husband, that I had to continue reading. Maybe it was because I was going down the same path with my father that I felt a connection to you and your words. I lost my father on Sept. 2 and I can only imagine the pain you must be feeling today losing your husband.
    I want you to know how much I'm thinking about you and your family and that you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you can feel the hug I'm sending you.
    If you want to talk or cry on a shoulder, I am here. xo

  99. Dearest Kate - in my experience, words can't be found...for a long time, if ever. It's been almost two years and I still struggle to remember to breath and find myself gulping deep draughts of air to replenish my stricken body.
    There's no time frame; it takes as long as it takes and it's different for all of us. I found life went better when I didn't struggle with the grief but let it wash over me, around me, through me. It's still a part of my daily existence but its control is weakening...thank God.

    Recently, on my blog I wrote, "When Joy, his wife, died, C. S. Lewis wrote in A Grief Observed, "Her absence is the sky and spread over everything." O dear God, how this strikes me at my core! Lewis also wrote, "When I lay these questions before God I get no answer. But a rather special sort of 'No answer.' It is not the locked door. It is more like a silent, certainly not uncompassionate, gaze. As though He shook His head not in refusal but waiving the question. Like, 'Peace, child; you don't understand.'"

    Selfishly, I wish I didn't have any inkling of what you're going through. But that's selfish and I do and my heart breaks for you, now and in the days, weeks, months to come.
    You are tucked into holy prayer.

    in cocoons, a hidden promise:
    butterflies will soon be free!
    In the cold and snow of winter
    there's a spring that waits to be,
    unrevealed until its season,
    something God alone can see.

    There's a song in every silence,
    seeking word and melody;
    there's a dawn in every darkness,
    bringing hope to you and me.
    From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,
    unrevealed until its season,
    something God alone can see.

    In our end is our beginning;
    in our time, infinity;
    in our doubt there is believing;
    in our life, eternity.
    In our death, a resurrection;
    at the last, a victory,
    unrevealed until its season,
    something God alone can see.

  157. Kate, there are no adequate words. I was thinking of you on Monday as it was the 40th anniversay of my own mother's death at the young age of 44. She too died as the result of a brain tumour. My friend Marilyn, who left the message directly above mine, alerted me to your loss. Love, hugs and blessings to you and your family.

  158. please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. My heart breaks for you during this difficult time. Thinking of your family and wish I had some wise words to say, but I don't.

    Take care, and know you are not alone in your grief.

  162. The bustle in a house
    The morning after death
    Is solemnest of industries
    Enacted upon earth -
    The sweeping up the heart
    And putting love away
    We shall not want to use again
    Until eternity.
    Emily Dickinson
    My heart aches for you.

  169. I'm very sorry for the pain you are experiencing, nothing will make it better but time.
    And don't be strong! Cry, wail, throw things, scream, let it out and let it exhaust you. Releasing and expressing it is the only way to let it move through and lessen. Let other people take care of you, this is a strength too. Its ok to fall apart for a while. Hold George and just breathe. My thoughts are with you.

  172. I have been feeling sorry for myself this past week because my headaches have been flaring up and I thought I was going to have to start having spinal taps again.
    A good friend told me there is always someone who's troubles are worse than my own and to never fret over what was bothering me. She had been right so many times, a spinal tap is nothing to be feeling sorry about.
    To lose someone special in your life, yeah, my problems are petty. May you find your inner peace in the memories you two shared...You deserve that much.

  174. Dear Kate, I have been reading your blog for several years and am so very sorry for your loss. A widow myself now for almost 6 years, what I know is this: you learn to bear the unbearable. The sharp, stabbing pain will "soften". It never really goes away but as it softens, the beautiful memories you have of the life you and your husband shared will flood your heart and mind. There he will live again and those memories will help sustain you. Bless you as you mourn your husband and may time bring acceptance and peace.
