A Giveaway! (And it's not a photo print).

TIME'S UP! Winner to be announced.

I've accumulated way too much stuff over the years. You can ask my friends, Karen and Adrienne, who helped me pack my house last September. I was giving them things left and right until they told me to stop. They knew I was doing it because I just didn't care at that point about my "stuff". It was a difficult time for me and I thank them for making me stop, but still . . . I have too much stuff.

Take, for example, this beautiful sheep. It's quite nice. It stands 7 inches high and is 6 inches wide. I had originally bought it as a Christmas gift for a friend but ended up not giving it to her. The friend is KathyJules, of the mustard story. I picked it up for her in December of 2007 at a wonderful little primitives shop in Chesapeake City, Maryland. I ran into her shortly afterwards. We were talking about gifts people give us and I mentioned that somewhere, somehow, people got it into their heads that I absolutely LOVE tea. And now I get tea as gifts. Well, the truth is, I really like tea. And tea does make a nice gift. And I'm certainly not going to turn down a gift of tea, but I really do have a lot of it in my cupboard. And she said that people think the same thing about sheep with her. She likes sheep, but for some reason, she keeps receiving sheep as gifts.

DSC_0415 copy

Well, I'm glad we had that little talk because someone wasn't getting a sheep for Christmas now. I gave her something else that she ended up loving. And I kept the sheep. But I keep looking at it like it doesn't belong here. I'm weird that way, I guess. So I'm giving it away. And I'll be giving other things away in the future, but let's start with the sheep.

All you have to do if you want to win this beautiful, but lonely ewe is leave a comment. That's it! You can simply say hello. Or you can tell me what gifts people tend to give you. You might want to tell me how cold it is in your neck of the woods. I'm not judging on the comments to choose the winner. I'll be using the random integer generator over at random.org to determine the winner.

This contest will stay up until 6 PM Monday.

I will announce the winner by 7 PM (EST) Monday, January 19th. So please people, please give this lonely ewe a home. And try saying that 3 times real fast.

Oh, and PS ~ 'Pimp' this contest on your own blog and get two chances to win. What you must do, however, is come back here and leave me a second comment with the link to your 'pimp post'. Ha. That sounds funny.

  4. What a cute little sheep! Hmm, the weather here is cold, but not subzero like it has been...and we're in the middle of a snowstorm! Your dog George is beautiful, by the way. Wishing you a great weekend, what is left of it at least!

  6. Clever way to clear the clutter ... for a long time, based on a throw away remark, I began being gifted with MUGS ... cheap kitchy airport bought in the gift shop while waiting for a plane .... they are now packed away but you know, you have inspired me ... am going to post pix of mugs and offer them ... thanks... oh and NO I dont need a sheep .. but it is cute

  7. Oh Kate, he/she is so cute. I would love to enter your contest and win. Things people tend to give me is jewelry. I don't really wear jewelry. I have my watch and wedding ring...once in a while I put on a bracelet and a pair of earrings....I love jewelry, don't get me wrong...but I mostly just admire it.

  8. I love the little sheep, but at 71 I too am trying to rid myself of stuff and my kids won't take any more.

  9. I would certainly prefer this to a Snuggie (ha, MPM). How cute. And you are a doll for having a give away. I would be happy with a print of your picture of this sheep.

By the way, my cousins used to call me "Ewey" (pronounced ooh-ey, but that's how we spelled it!

Of course, for the three people who read my blog, I'll be happy to pimp you on my blog.

  10. This little sheep is precious. I have a few pieces from this collection so he would be in good company with the cow, pig and rooster on my kitchen shelf. I'm aiming for the entire barnyard.

    ReplyDelete
  11. How adorable! My daughter collects sheep so it would be so perfect. I love the details, very unusual.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Mental P Mama sent me over...and IF I (me) win....PLEASE Send it to MPM.
I just like signing up for things!
    :)

  13. The sheep is adorable. I so had to laugh at this post, because I can not tell you how many "black bears" I receive as gifts, how many of this and that. All I have to so is mention that I like something and well, for the next umpteen years, I will get that for gifts. Sometimes, I truly love the items, but other times not so much. I am a collector, but a very picky one. Know what I mean?
I have decided to just not mention anything again.....keep mouth shut.

But I would love to win this cute sheep, would go perfect in my new bathroom remodel I am in the middle of doing!

  14. I cannot POSSIBLY win two things in a row so if a crazy thing like that happens, I'm with Metabolic, I have too much stuff so send it on to Mental.

Big surprise, I get turtle stuff from friends. Ranging from wonderful crusty, old, antique stuff to um, souvenirs from the Ozarks (not sure where they found the shells to glue on that turtle, being on the prairie and all...).

  15. That is really cute. I don't have anything "primative." It's a style I've been seeing a lot on many blogs.
HELLO and I hope you are having a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like the idea of you giving your pretty things away and then someone else taking a photo and posting it on their blog. A new sheep on life.

I too have too much stuff though. Let Mental Mama win, she clearly needs this sheep.

  17. I don't know why - but folks keep giving me BOOKS - I just don't understand it!

(I am so lying - I am a book freak!)

If you draw my name? give it to MPM from whence I came.

(I am ashamed every time I complain about the cold here in Alabama - just ashamed.)
    Wimpy wimpy wimpy!

  18. How cute is that sheep!! I always get the same gifts, cookbooks (which I love) and bath and body goodies (which I also love) I know it is the thought that counts, every now and then something different would be nice!!Have a great weekend!!!

  19. Ewe are so kind to do a giveaway. I wuv the sheep and would wuv to have it.

Also, I am glad that you decided to do this. I have some lovely things in my home now that I would like to part with but just can't stand tossing into the thrift bin. I look forward to doing a similar giveaway myself!

  21. I live in Wyoming and it's been unseasonably warm here the last few days - 50 degrees - unheard of! Love the ewe!

    ReplyDelete
  22. That sheep is shhhweeet. I love the folksy look. People tended to give me Halloween decorations for my birthday which is in September. Don't really know how it started but I don't mind. It is fun. Off I go to pimp. I'll be back.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Just back from a lovely warm 85 degrees vacation with Georgia Rectors. Just wanted to say hello and I have missed everyone. Mental P Mama and Deb, if I win, I will draw for you two. This could be fun. Hello Country Girl.

  29. Little Egg Farm sent me! Hello! It's warmer here today in Oklahoma. It's going to be in the 60"s this coming week. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's an adorable sheep. I have no more room to add any more in the barn so I've started adding to the collection in the house. This one would definately fit right in :)
When we moved two years ago, I did the same as you. I cleaned out one room at a time, packed it up and probably tossed or gave away as much as I packed. Then I made my family( my Mom included who was probably the biggest offendor) not to buy me anymore stuff! Now I handpick what "stuff" I want in my house. It's very clutter free and takes much less time to keep it clean ;) Thanks for the opportunity.

  33. I pimped you on my blog and my blog is fatsassyandmrwonderful.blogspot.com and I hate to tell you it is quite warm and very pretty here in Arizona today...although I wish for cooler weather so we can wear sweatshirts and jeans more often...I love anything with roses...unlike you...I don't seem to get many gifts with them...for some reason my sons and husband can live with me everyday and not know what I like...our daughters are pretty smart cookies though....hopefully he finds a great home...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh MY! I want it! I'll give her a good home! I promise!! She'll fit in nicely with my little flock... maybe I'll even start offering little somethings too...

    great idea!

  36. That little ewe is adorable. It would look fantastic in my living room. Thanks for this sweet giveaway.

By the way, since you mentioned your love of tea as well as your love of gifting tea, you might want to check out Megan's blog. Believe me...you'll love it!

  37. As a relatively new shepherd (of wonderful little Shetland sheep), I have not yet been given or purchased many sheep-themed items, so I am in NEED of more sheep art! :-) Count me in, and I think I'll have to "pimp" you, too, for another chance to win! (Of course, then more and more people enter as they see your contest on other blogs - like I did on Deb's blog - so maybe "pimping" would lower my chances. Hmm; I'll have to ponder that....)

Thanks to Deb for tipping me off to your blog; I think I'll have to "follow" now!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Cute sheep! This one would never end up in the white elephant exchange. it's adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sent here by Deb at Tylefarm and I am glad...not just because of the contest, but because you have an interesting blog as well. Glad she sent me.

  40. I used to collect ducks. I love wooden ducks. They're so ... Canadian, somehow. Now I have a wonderful collection of wooden and brass ducks and geese. I haven't received any for a while, though. I guess people thought I have enough.

I love that little sheep. It's a wonderful example of folks art, isn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  41. See what happens when people pimp your blog? Total strangers come over here trying to win your sheep.

You've added a new dimension to re-gifting; I never thought of using cool stuff I've received that "just doesn't go" with the rest of my house, or me, as a blog giveaway. I might have to try it. Thanks for the idea.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm not really interested in winning the delightful little sheep, I just popped by to read your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Winning this would give me a sheep thrill...Oh my, that didn't sound good.

  46. I love that little sheep, it reminds me of the book, The Little Prince!

People used to give me monkeys- lots and lots of monkeys. Did you know how many ugly monkeys there are in this world>

I'd write more, but I have to go figure out why the front door isn't closing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's a beautiful ewe. And the perfect size. I love it. I'd almost rather it not come to my house, since I seem to be accumulating ceramic farm animals at an alarming rate, but I have no sheep.

    ReplyDelete
  48. count me in! i can give her a good home to! Sassy sent me and your sheep is adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Adorable! I love the sheep. We just acquired our flock of 7 sheep this year. I am a sheep newbie! Therefore, I do not have too many sheep items yet. People give me chocolate. I mean, you can never have enough chocolate, but really, my hips don't need it.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like sheep and have 3 wooly ones on my shelf right now.

  51. I need some sheep!!

  52. Well, I just love sheep. I have one sittin' by my fireplace right now and she is soooo loney.

    ReplyDelete
  53. No No...I must have it!!! The sheep is adorable and since Boo the dog is technically a sheep hearding dog I think it would be perfect at our house!! I would love to leave a link and pimp you out and all....still haven't figured out how to do that yet? I'm such a computer dummy....

  55. This sheep would go well in my guest room at the log cabin so please enter me! And the gift people keep giving me since I love wine - is tons of wine glasses. Enough people! I will never have 200 people over my house for wine (but if I do, I certainly have the glasses for it!) Now you're making me think - I should have a giveaway and get rid of some of these wine glasses! LOL!!

  56. Monkey Girl saw the sheep and said "Oh! Is that hand carved? It's beautiful!" I never pegged her for a sheep girl, just a monkey girl. (shrug)

I'd love your sweet sheep because I'm raising two real sheep, a Karakul an a Navajo Churro. But I also have a shelf-sitter sheep without a buddy.
Your sheep could come live here and have a friend.

  63. I was sent here by my Pimp Mental P. She tells me what to do, where to go...and because she is my pimp I have to do it or I risk losing her protection services. On the upside...I really do love me this sheep. So sweet and calm. It will stand out nicely in my house of crazy and comedy.

I am off to read more on your blog. Like why you were giving all your stuff away once upon a time....I need details.

  70. I was brought over here by Candy at Country Life. I need that sheep. I have sheep in my barn right now, and have cute sheep all over the place. Actually, people give me sheep, but I don't have too many, YET.

What a nice idea to give things away on your blog - I might do that with some things I have - cause I'm going to help at a garage sale this spring and somethings might be better off given to friends!

    ReplyDelete
  71. http://www.aaron-n-jen.com/2009/01/katys-giveaway-aaron-n-jencom.html I have sadly sold my soul and pimped your contest.

My price for selling my soul? Apparently, a steenkin' cute sheep.

  72. Found your blog by way of Tyler Farm by way of Spin-List. Oh, the links are endless, aren't they?
Gifts from others: tend to be food ones. Gifts I give others: anything with knitted wool. Still a rookie with a digital camera and hope to have a blog in the near future. Now if I could just have 20 acres and a spinner's flock.....

  76. Looks like you have rather a lot of people wanting your gorgeous sheep. I have 600 real ones but I can always find a home for an ornamental one inside the house!

You are very kind by the way.

  77. This is a beautiful statue! I would love to have it! I too recieve a lot of things that I don't really need as gifts. I used to love anything that was given to me as a child, but as my junk accumulates, I end up feeling guilty getting rid of gifts that I didn't need or want in the first place. So now, when asked to make a list for gift-giving occasions, I get specific. Book titles, gift cards, items I need, articles of clothing with sizes and colors, etc. In an attempt to live a simpler lifestyle, I have to give people less latitude in their gift-giving choices! Strangely, even though my gifts have gotten better, there's a little less joy in the recieving. I liked when people got to express themselves in their gifts to me...

  82. DARN! I came here from Vonda's "Little Egg Farm" blog at 6:45 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on January 20th only to find that you (ewe) have declared that TIME'S UP!!!

On the off chance that you (ewe?) have extended the time just to see how many comments/entries you (ewe?) might receive -- it is, after all, way past January 19th at this point and I don't see any winner's name -- I am going to enter anyway, although I suppose the chance of that random number generator thingy picking number 91 is one in, well, 91.

    Thank ewe (you).
