It rained like crazy here in Maryland this morning and I figured it was a sign to stay in my pajamas as long as possible. So of course, I complied.
It was also too wet to do any cleaning, although I did try out the new vacuum (which worked fine, by the way). Right before it began pouring, I went outside and saw these lovely squash blossoms that are blooming out front. I laid a towel down to keep me dry as I took pictures from the ground. I didn’t want to get my pajamas wet, you know.
We didn’t plant this vine. It appeared recently and has since taken over the front of the house but we’ve left it grow to see what it would become.
I’m guessing it’s a pumpkin.
I remember my husband carving a couple of jack-o-lanterns on the porch last October after he’d come home from the hospital. He just told me that he remembers throwing some of the seeds behind the azalea bush out front.
I remember it very well now. And it wasn’t until I went back and read [this post] that I also remembered how I’d felt at the time.
Oh, hello there.
There’s a storm coming, little bee. Just wanted to let you know.
In other happenings today, I took an absolutely delicious two hour nap. I rarely ever take naps but I must have needed it. It was wonderful with the cool breeze coming in the window and I had just looked at all these beautiful photos of Maine on flickr and dreamed of being there.
So you see how exciting it was around here today?
Yes, I’m pretty sure it’s a pumpkin. I’ll keep you posted, k?
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .
Thanks for your visits. It’s always good to have you stop by.
What beautiful photos and what a perfect way to spend a Sunday.
ReplyDeleteONe of the very few mathematical equations I know is this:
Sunday + Rain + Pajamas = Nap.
That little bee is so cute. Now your husband will have a free pumpkin to carve this fall.
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie! Pumpkin seeds...Yum!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the photos.
ReplyDeleteI loved planting pumpkins when we had a garden. Best thing ever.
ReplyDeleteI soooooooooo want my own pumpkin patch.
ReplyDeletePumpkin bread, pumpkin butter, pumpkin cheesecake...oh, what a lovely surprise.
ReplyDeleteI hope you hugged him for that wonderful surprise!!! Can not wait to see it grow!
I heart pumpkins...really, I do.

What gorgeous blossoms! I've never seen a pumpkin in that stage before. How exciting! Gotta love free stuff.
ReplyDeleteVisualizing you in your jammies on the towel photoing the blossoms and, voila! a bee to add to the composition. Cool! Sounds like you had a great Sunday.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of an errant vine. I came in from Willow's, loving everything country.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very lovely day indeed. . . something about the breeze blowing through a window always makes me happy and "nappy."
ReplyDeleteLove me a good nap.
ReplyDeleteCould it be a watermelon?
If those were mine I would see lots of yummy things in my future. Great pictures of the bee. Very clear and detailed!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, and I'm so glad you didn't get your PJs wet taking them. Something "wrong" about having to change into fresh PJs to take a nap after the shoot!
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos as usual Kate!! I can't help but think of Italy when I see squash blossoms. It's the one and only time I've ever eaten a flower...and it was good..surprisingly!! Happy Monday to you!!
ReplyDeleteare the flowers edible? i'm totally into edible flowers these days, and have been trying floral stirfries. very nice!
ReplyDeleteSure hope it's a pumpkin. They're so pretty.
ReplyDeleteDid the bee run for cover when you told him there was a storm coming? Hide under a pumpkin leaf perhaps?

Oh, your pictures are beautiful! The little bee inside is wonderful. Love the photos, and even more your story. Wish I were in my pjs right about now....
ReplyDeleteTake care~
That's so funny, because just the other day I noticed a huge vine growing out across the stone path.....originated from the pile of composted dirt I had delivered. It has not blossomed yet, and the leaves are huge, and it is a mystery....is it a squash? a pumpkin? Just have to wait and see I guess.
ReplyDeletei love to cook up those blossems :) drool and volunteers are the best plants ever!
ReplyDelete"Oh, hello there." <--- loved that little greeting in the middle of your tale. Classic Kate! :) The photos are lovely.. can't wait to see the progression.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful excuse to lounge around in pj's!!
ReplyDeleteCJ xx
Oh these make it all worthwhile .. all the rain and stuff I mean
ReplyDeleteHey, maybe you'll have another jack-o-lantern by October!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your lovely contribution to the discussion at WM. :^)
I love rainy Sundays when I can spend them in my pjs! Ahh Bliss!
ReplyDeleteI love your photos, they are always so amazing!
Oh yes, a day in your pj's is so wonderful! Love the squash blossoms -- beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat bee inside the pumpkin flower (yes I agree - that is what it looks like) is like a little jewel.
ReplyDeleteI would trade you a day or two of rain straight across for this 90 degree muggy stuff. Our Zuchini is burning up and losing leaves...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, that last one looks pumpkin-y!
Asthmagirl
That was a nasty storm! Those look just like my butternut squash blooms!
ReplyDeletewe got the rain a few hours later. It was wonderful. And I didn't have a nap. But I did have a long brunch;)
ReplyDeleteKate, what a lovely surprise your vine must have been! Love the photos...made me smile to see the prettiest yellow and the little bee! Sounds like the most wonderful day!!! :) Cheryl
ReplyDeleteSounds like my kind of Sunday!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are something else!
Great shots and I love how you used a blanket so you wouldn't get your jammies wet! So awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your perfect day!
ReplyDeleteAloha-
That is exactly my kind of excitement. And when gifts spring from the ground unexpectantly like that, well, that IS quite a gift!
ReplyDeleteBe well,

I had a mystery squash type plant too, but when I returned from vacation yesterday I found that it had produced Acorn Squash. Must have come from the compost because we eat a lot of acorn squash and I throw the seeds in there.
