I interrupt our historic tour of Hopewell Village and Furnace to bring you a post about a dog that one of my readers has dubbed ‘Squirrel Warrior’.
You all know George by now, but for those who are new to the scene, he’s the resident border collie in our lives.
And he spends quite a bit of his time lately doing this.
And this.
I call it his squirrel point.
Border collies do this very well. It’s a stare down between them and the squirrel.
Above him, dozens of squirrels cavort, running up and down trunks and leaping from tree to tree. Oh, they taunt him so.
This is George’s territory and he’s done well with keeping the little varmints at bay.
It’s his job.
Self-appointed by him and him alone.

The tour through Hopewell Village continues tomorrow. I just wanted to share this with you today. All photos were taken by my husband and discovered by me in the camera disk yesterday. I found about 20 pictures, all of George looking up into the trees!
The expressions on George's face are priceless. Your husband certainly has an eye for capturing George at his best.
ReplyDeleteWhat would he do if he ever actually caught a squirrel? I agree with Ellen -- his expression is priceless!
ReplyDeleteHaha. My border collie does the same thing, except he's watching shadows. It's quite entertaining.
ReplyDeleteYour husband takes great pictures. George needs to make a trip to Virginia. Danger next door would love to meet him.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the rest of the hike. This fresh air is wonderful.
How cute.
ReplyDeleteHe is so handsome!!
ReplyDeleteSuch focus. Such vigilance. In my early life we had a border collie who's self appointed job was to keep the barn swallows off the electrical wires that crossed the driveway. This post really made me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks to you, your husband, and of course my hero George!
ReplyDeleteI needed a big laugh - you gave it to me. LOL!
Aloha, Friend!

I love photos of George ...
ReplyDeleteOh sweet... your hubby is really upping his game!! And we have a whole slew of working dogs who have this EXACT kind of concentration - only its usually spent on cattle. (Or, if they are being naughty, roos, or rabbits).

Hubby leaves his daily gifts for you on your camera card! Good on him. How sweet! Go George! I suppose the squirrels are protected, like our scrub turkeys, down under here in Australia?
ReplyDeleteDon't tell George, but I had to laugh on seeing his expression. So many squirrels, so near, yet so far. Poor thing. ;D
ReplyDeleteLOL! Has George seen the movie, UP! He's in it!!!
ReplyDeleteDogs are so expressive. The look in his eyes is just priceless! I never noticed the color of his eyes before. very intriguing..

ReplyDeleteI just love George!
ReplyDeleteHe is so photogenic ... I swear he needs his own Facebook fan page ..
ReplyDeletetotally cute! He is very busy and has a lot on his plate. My beagle is the same way. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteYou are a cheeky devil, Country Girl...!
ReplyDeleteGeorge, any new news from the upper limbs???
So ... would you call George a pointer?

ReplyDeleteOur Duffy was a good squirrel guard. We didn't have acres but a decent yard for the city. And our neighbor had a large maple that spread over the fence. Once Duffy sat sit and a squirrel sat still on the 4 foot fence for over 20 minutes. Neither one moving. Amazing. Duffy did catch a couple of squirrels and even brought one in through the doggy door.
ReplyDeleteWithout the squirrels, your tulips bulbs should be safe. ;)
I love George's photos. Geez, my cat does the same thing....I've always said my cat acts more like a dog than a cat!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love-love-love all these photos! Don't know that I could LIVE with such an intense dog, but I just LOVE to watch them "on duty"!
ReplyDeleteThe perimeter is now secure, we can now go forward. My job is here is done.
ReplyDeleteGeorge
I wonder what he'd do if he actually caught one...
ReplyDeleteSurly George must have a crick in his neck by now with all that looking up!
