Where the birds are

Hi, it’s me. Country Girl. Today’s post is for the cat. Her name is Blackie and I believe she may be feeling quite chagrined over George’s fame and celebrity status, especially now that he has his own Facebook page. And although I feel a little badly for her, I think she just needs to get over it.

I mean, if she posed for photographs like George does, and chased frisbees and carried sticks and ran to greet me upon my arrival home, I’d understand. But she does none of this.

What she does do is bring dead critters to my doorstep.

So this is for Blackie. And it involves BIRDS. Beautiful birds!

I’d like to suggest visiting the following blogs where you will see some photographs of all sorts of birds. Blackie has approved all of them. And I think they will make you happy, too.

Backyard Bird Photography Tips, from Robin at Robin’s Nesting Place

My Little Friends, from Kacey at Wine on the Keyboard

Sunshine on Saturday, from Kerri at A Little Piece of Me

Wings, by Olivia at Parvum Opus

And if you go, please tell them I said hello.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

If you know of any other sites with beautiful bird photos, please feel free to leave a link in the comment section. Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the bird blog tips! Blackie is so pretty. If I ever get a cat, I would like to have a jet black one. I found one on petfinder I really want to adopt, but I can't have a cat where I live right now. :( I really like the lighting in that photo!

  5. Blackie is a beauty. It sounds like she takes her birding seriously, even if it does on conform to your ideas. She probably lowers the small rodent population as well. Our Thomas takes his job--speed bump--very seriously too. He has longer fur which means he needs to be combed and occasionally bathed. He hates them both. Black cats rule.

  6. The differences between dogs and cats truly is baffling, isn't it?

  13. i often wonder about blackie. even thought blackie was no longer with us. so, if i may: Blackie, I want you to know that I respect your lofty royality and grandeur. Just because you refrain from displays of child like abandon you are no less greatly loved. I admire your dedication and your loyalty to your family. Your hard work keeps everyting humming. Remember that. I am sure, THEY could not keep it together without you. Just know that at my house we have 8 cats to worship. The 2 dogs do their best to show off by jumping, fetching and laying their chin on a foot but CATS RULE! BV xo

  17. Hi, Kate. OK, now, I had a collie when I was little, and then another similar dog when I was a little older. But truthfully, I've always loved cats. So I saw your picture of Blackie, and I thought, My, what a beautiful, black cat!

If he's anything like my Tessie (who does not pose for photos), he talks to you a lot.

  19. Isn't she lovely! I do like a black cat. Currently I'm on my second one. Something about their beautiful coats and endearing eyes draws me in.

Blackie needs a little more air time ; )

  20. Our cat is just the same; the dogs do all the hard work whilst the cat sits back, washes herself, and expects to be cuddled all night long.

  21. Blackie is a real Black Beauty. Similar to our cats in many ways, only ours bring us dead squirrels. I love watching them playing in the trees outside, but the cats prefer them on the carport steps.

  22. Our Muffin (sweet name for such a burly big Tom cat) used to bring dead critters and leave them on our front step. Protecting us, he was.

  23. I think Blackie and my Rose are too busy to interact on FB ..

  24. Do you know the saying, "I am the cat who walks alone, all places are alike to me." ? That is the thing about cats - they say you own a dog but a cat owns you and chooses to stay with you.
Incidentally Loren - In a Dark time the eye begins to see - see my blog list has super bird photographs.

  25. All the cats I know, have no interest at all in gaining approval from the masses...they know that they are special, without the attention that FB brings...Blackie looks to be quite happy...smiles.

  26. she's very lovely...perhaps she can get together with blue ridge becky and do a smashing face book page. becky has been talking in cat tongues to the little birds on the patio. she just loves to watch them ^..^ she turns 10 months old this month.

  27. Well...I hate to be the one to point this out, but if you were a faster learner, Blackie wouldn't have to keep teaching you how to, you know, hunt and stuff. Poor, poor, misguided human.

All the cats I've ever invited into my home have been wildly dependant. Stuck like glue to my leg, literally. I don't know if it's me...do I encourage this...?

Here's another amazing bird photographer you can check out.

Keep up the good work, Blackie!

  30. Thank you! I've been searching for bird blogs this week. And Blackie probably feels like most cats. That the dogs get all the limelight.

  31. Blackie, you are a vision of loveliness. I am very happy to see you. Hang in there, sweet kitty, the doggie will not hog all the attention all of the time. =^..^=

  32. Miss Sally and I both thank you for these links!....

  33. I hate two all black cats... Pink and Green...they are a bit jealous of George and have been bugging me for their own facebook page too. I told them they were too young...

  34. You know you have started all the rage with FB pages for our pets. I am trying to resist.
Love Blackie's photo. Such a stunning cat!

  35. Blackie is a pretty girl. But, maybe she needs a collar with a bell to let the birdies know where she is.
