I put some new shoes on and suddenly everything’s right

Something came in the mail for me last week and I wanted to share my new-found shoe loves with you.

My husband bought these for me in preparation for our big trip to the Maine coast this month. My old walking shoes were a little down in the heel (literally) and new ones were in order.

We’ve always bought our camping/hiking supplies at REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) and these were no exception. In fact, we’ve been shopping at REI long before anyone had even heard of the internet. We’d go to the closest store, which is in Conshohocken, PA (just outside of Philly).

These are my new Salomon women’s trail-running shoes, not that I intend on doing any running on the trails. I can’t tell you how surprised I was to get a pair of shoes in the mail that actually fit. They run true-to-size and I will honestly say that these are one of the most comfortable pair of walking shoes that I have ever owned.

I’m not writing this because I was paid by any company to do so. I simply love the shoes.

And the color. I love the color.

The only drawback for me is the lack of ankle support, however the edges do come up a little higher than my regular sneakers. My husband recommended these shoes to me and I especially like the nifty no-tie laces. You just sort of pull them up using this little lever . . .

. . . and then stuff them into the little sack that sits at the top of the shoe.

This is a view looking down at them from the little storage sack.

The shoes have OrthoLite foam insoles, which feel great and are washable. You can take these shoes right of the box, slip them on, pull up the laces and you’re ready to go. I was so surprised at how comfortable they feel.

And when I’m walking, it’s all about the comfort.

Another pair came in the mail as well. These are my new Keen H2 sandals. They’re for walking on those pebble beaches of Maine, and just kicking around outdoors. The jury is still out on them, though they are really comfortable.

I hope you kick up your heels and have a great week.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

The post title is from the lyrics to Paolo Nutini’s New Shoes.

  1. I like or love ALL my Keens (and I've amassed quite a collection off of eBay!), but everyone has different feet. I've never tried Salomons, but am looking for some new jogging shoes that have as much arch support as my Keens. My New Balance running shoes are wearing out....

  2. I really like the looks of these. Comfort is the most important but cute doesn't hurt.

  3. You had me at the Nutini post title. You can't help but have dancing feet with that song. I'm glad you're happy with your new shoes.

  5. Thanks for the advice. I have two pair of sandals, not Keens but like that. I have foot problems so will give the Salomons a look/try.

  8. My husband loves his Keens. He bought them sight unseen on the recommendation of a co-worker. I'v never heard a bad thing about these shoes from anyone who owns them...maybe it's time I got a pair for myself...in pink!!! ;)

  10. I have similar Keens. I'm not sure they are the most fashionable but I adore mine, they are SO comfortable and perfect for long walks or hikes where you might have to ford a creek.

  11. Those shoes look great.

I want to know do the trail running shoes keep the water and damp out. Or does it never rain or get damp underfoot in Maine?

    Just joking there...

  12. Keens are awesome! I use them for kayaking and walking along the beach..made for going in and out of the water and protecting your feet from anything sharp. Very comfortable.

  14. I love REI ( we have none near :( and I love my Keen Newports. I have had them for three weeks, or maybe four, and I won't wear anything else. They have replaced my dozen or so pairs of Birkenstocks. So comfy!

  18. What? No bow? ;-)

I like those sandals but they wont like me, they'll chew up my toes ...

Glad you found shoes to make that neuroma shut the front door ...

I would suggest a trial run, er, walk here in Central Park before you go to Maine .. just sayin'

  19. That's one thing I've always stressed, buy the correct footwear for the hobby.

When we were dancing, some of the people freaked when I told them how much my dance shoes cost. But, it made a huge difference in how sore my feet and calves were when I danced in cheap shoes.

  20. I think I am SOLD! on both! I will be checking them out .... my hubby and I are going to the beach later this month to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. New shoes would be great for the trip!

  21. Matt had a pair of Keens, but he lost one last year white-watering. He loved them. I bought a pair like them, but they aren't the Keen brand. They're great water shoes!

  22. I love the colour too! I have the most difficult feet to fit. I wouldn't be comfortable ordering shoes over the internet. Good for you on scoring with this pair!

  23. Your shoes look really nice...

Maybe that is something we all got from Cinderella... I for one, am a firm believer in the all healing power of a pair of new footwear. I always go shoe shopping when I'm blue :D

  25. Wear them in health-

Shoes are important....I've become a devotee of curved bottoms (Sketchers, Dr. Schol, etc) good for my core, legs, back, gait)
