Sure, it’s cold walking outside to view all the holiday lighting and the fountain display, but inside the conservatory you can take your time and let the beauty fill your soul.
I’ve posted photos of some of the holiday displays here.
These large hanging sconces are just off the Children’s Garden. I think they’re gorgeous and so unique.
Looking straight into one from below.
One of the little fountains in the Children’s Garden. It’s at the perfect height for a small child.
I enjoy walking through this place in any season and almost wish I had a year-long pass. In fact I do wish I had a year-long pass. There is room after room of natural beauty combined with some fascinating architectural detail.
You could spend an entire day there in the spring – there’s just so much to see around the grounds.
Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square PA
This year, I went with my in-laws.
I just love them.

Tonight, I’m popping in a movie that I rented from Netflix. It’s called Everybody’s Fine and stars Robert De Niro, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsdale, and Sam Rockwell in a story about a family who’s going through a bit of a rough patch around the holidays. I’ll let you know how it goes.
I love wintertime.
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Beautiful place! You shared some nice details. :)
Looks like a great place for many macro shots too! I hope you enjoy the movie!
That place looks amazing. And you're very lucky to have such a wonderful relationship with your inlaws!
Cabin Fever in Vermont
Looks like a lovely place to walk around (and great lighting for pix too!). It's nice you enjoy spending time with your in-laws.
p.s. saw that movie, didn't much care for it myself. :(
With your eye, every season is beautiful. I'm not a fan of winter but sure do like it better with a camera in my hands. Thanks for sharing your beautiful images.
My Hubby asked for Apple TV for his Christmas gift so I purchased it for him, and now we get Netflix online to our TV through the internet. It works pretty slick.
It's cold tonite! I think a hot cup of tasty, chai coffee and a movie may be in order.

I am with Hilary! With a camera in hand....any season works for me....great images, Kate....smiles.
I can see why you love it there...I'm watching a Robert De Niro movie also Assination Tango....winter does make us appreciate spring for sure...
Your in-laws are so cute.
I love Longwood.
I love that you love winter. Makes me want to love it too.
:)
I love Winter too! Without the quiet of winter, I would appreciate excitement of Spring. Living in Az. now and looking forward to moving back to Co..
I saw the movie... had mixed emotions about it - loved Robert De Niro's character and my heart broke for him.
Next time you go, I want to go with you ; )
It's nice to have in-laws you can get along with. I'll bet they really love their daughter in-law too!
I would not appreciate the excitement of Spring.:)
Guess I should proof better.
beautiful shots. i love walking around gardens

Great photos. I love the lizard. Don't like snow much though.
oh, sigh... i love Longwood Gardens. Thank you for this, it was a little peek at Spring.
Keep posting your NYC photos! I especially like the pictures of the sconces...they are somewhat medieval in appearance. But my favorite is of the lizard. Down here in the warmer climate of south Texas with have geckos that resemble the lizard in your photo.
Did I see your darling son in one of 'em? It's awesome that you have a good relationship with the in-laws! Both of mine passed away a year or two after we married. We lived away from them and I really didn't get to know them well. Hugs, Me PS: I really didn't like the movie!
Beautiful.. Just beautiful. Love your new header Kate.
Stay warm and enjoy
I love Longwood too. very disappointed not to get there this year. There is another beautiful garden/mansion called Chanticleer near Media, Pa too that is a gorgeous display of outdoor gardens and rock formations and patios.

Worth the trip if you want something new in the spring.
I saw Everybody's Fine a few months ago. I thought it was great but had each "kids" problems figured out almost from the beginning. It is a nice story though.
Oh such lovely conservatories with beautiful decor..I could spend a few days looking! An annual pass would be wonderful, then you could see the changes as the seasons pass.
that place is beautiful, it reminds me of the most wonderful Kew Gardens in London x
I love your photos of winter, and of Longworth. I've just got to plan a visit there, we are so close and by there so often, it's a shame I've missed it all these years.
Wonder how you'll like the movie. Kind of quirky, and a bit predictable, but we enjoyed it. I hope you do too.
I love Longwood. Went there with Ellen and her hub many years back and it was such a great place!
I've heard such good things about this place! Got to put it on my LIST!
When life returns to normal, I am going to ZipCar down to you and we'll go to Longwood .. 'k?
A great place to take hundreds of photos!
Kate, your blog is so soothing to me. I love the New York City pictures, and these Longwood Garden shots remind me of times spent with my grandmother at the Jewel Box in Forest Park in St Louis, as well as the Botanical Gardens there. (Wonder whether you've ever been to those gardens?) And the conservatory shot above reminded me of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It's fun to live vicariously through your posts.
Great spot - I love the fountain.
Have a Good New Year.
You should definitely get one of those passes, this place is beautiful. I especially love the shot with the columns and all the ivy and wisteria-looking vines. Just amazing.
Oh I just know I would love that place too. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to have just a bit of this place inside our homes in the Winter? Nice to see a pic of your sweet inlaws too! xo ~Lili
Love these shots! Love the change of seasons. How was the movie?
I love the picture of Anna and Godfrey.
Wow I loved your B&W photos from the last post. I'm starting to get into B&W.They intrigue me. We are suppose to get some snow this weekend. For Oklahoma that is something to look forward too. Also I just got finished watching "My Son Jack". It is about Rudyard Kipling's son. very good story.
well have a great weekend. I'm stuck in meetings this weekend for my son's pre-deployment to Afghanistan.
i love that place and think i will have to visit someday....it's on the list !!
and what did you think of the movie.....i watched it when it first came out of dvd and it made me kind of sad. i loved all the people in it....but still, it made me sad....
The next time I visit my sister in law I am definitely going to the Longwood Gardens! They look beautiful.
...and it looks like I am about the same age as your inlaws...what a cute couple! It makes me miss my in-laws who I loved dearly....
Hi Kate
How did you like the Winter Wipeout
It made me cold(er) just to watch. Love the pictures and hope you have a great weekend. Blessings Mary
That is a beautiful place (love the curved archway over the hall). I wonder how long of a drive that would be for me.....
Wonderful, I believe I like the lizard and the man through the arches best, but they are all lovely.
Wow, more wonderful pictures! I think you should send them to Longwood and see if they want to use them for their publicity!
I actually love winter as well, so many complain about it, but I love it. I love LOTS of snow also, the only complaint I have about winter so far up here in the north is that it is dark way too much. We only get a brief amount of time where there is light and when you work, it's often that you leave when it's dark and come home when it's dark...not fun. Otherwise I LOOOOOVE winter....of course when we get into what technically should be called spring and winter is still hanging on, I might start complaining...until then...nada...nuttin...love it! Gorgeous photos, wish we had botanical gardens and such around here but none that I know of.
I hope they don't mind the picture, El. I thought you might appreciate it. Welcome home again from Spain!
And Sooz, no I have never been to those gardens. The name sounds pretty. And welcome. I don't think I've seen you comment before.
Thanks, everyone. Have a great weekend.

Oh, and Gail ~ the man through the arches is my son.
