And it keeps the boredom at bay.
That’s when I caught this little fella.
I had just sat down to watch the birds in the bushes when I looked up and saw this tiny face among the branches of the dogwood tree. I know it’s pretty blurry, but that sucker moved so quickly, I hardly had time to grab the camera let alone check the settings.
The bold brazen article slinks along the branch, knocking down the freshly fallen snow as he travels.
And then he zooms down the pole ~
My husband used a thin metal hook to hang this particular feeder because it’s slippery. The little bugger slid down it so fast, I nearly didn’t capture him!
Poof! He was quick. I held the shutter down and this is all I got.
He checks to make sure that the evil dog is not on duty.
I’m sure the squirrels think that our dear, sweet George is evil.
And when it comes to squirrels, believe me – George is serious about his job.
One can never be sure if it’s safe to eat.
But this morning, the coast looks clear.
And a nice relaxing stretch while he leisurely eats his breakfast of oiled sunflower seeds.
Where are you when we need you, George?

Great captures on that speedy little guy! Have a fantastic weekend:)
Love the texture and received it too... thanks for the reminder that I should play with it today!

:) so cute
We have lived in a house with a huge tree, and within 2 miles of where we live now for the last 19 years, and we have never ever had a squirrel in our yard. Now we have few nuts trees in our closer vicinity, but in our other house every yard had a tree. I love squirrels. They are scamps but they are cute.
Oh he is SO cute!!!
*Smile! I have a squirrel that hangs out on a tree right outside my office window and I have been trying to capture him ever since I picked up my camera again but with no success! I think he sees me grab my camera and he runs for it. Good job on capturing the little scamp! They are fast buggers for sure!
I received the texture also yesterday but am still trying to figure out how to use textures in PS Elements! Slow but sure, I'll get there!
I enjoy watching the squirrels outside my window...they scurry about chasing each other, so much fun! There was a litter of babies last year, amazing how quickly they move about...Enjoyed your pictures!
A very fun series..... and how lucky that little squirrel was the George was taking a rest... ;o)
I feel naked without my camera close to hand too!
Such great captures. And George for desert. Satisfying stuff -as usual (and often a lot more)
I declare you our blogging queen, Daryl is your princess, I'm court jester.

They are feisty and resourceful critters!
I would like to go on record to state that this is one of those squirrel-proof feeders.
Obviously, it's not working.
My little wooden bird feeders look like they've been through the chipper...dang squirrels gnaw on them in frustration to get every last seed possible hiding in the joints. GACK.
On a much more splendiferous note, that is a stunner of a portrait of dear George, my fave Squirrel Warrior in the whole world! (don't tell my Isla ~ she has other stronger points). Thanks to you, I signed up for Kim's email list & received that texture, too. Haven't tried it out yet but boy, it sure is workin' something fierce for you, CG!!
Happy week-ending :>}
sneaky squirrels! They use to shinny up our down spouts on the house.. to nest in the attic.
Our Rat Terrier, Annie, blew out one of her knees jumping at them.. the vet called it a Joe Namath injury. He fixed it and she went on her merry way with a cast for 6weeks, she learned to jump with three legs.
too bad your hawk was not close by they love squirrel dinners! :)
He's beautiful! Your squirrels have such a beautiful white underbelly! We don't get those kinds here - just red ones. :)
My dogs treed one yesterday and after several hours it dared to attempt escape - not a good ending for that one...
Cute post and great captures of that speedy little critter. We have a couple here too. (Weird, but my verification word is Canon.) xo ~Lili
OH I LOVE the squirrels .... you got some great shots of him. I LOVE how they hang by their toes like that :) And of course - George looks as handsome as ever.
Great photos, so much for the feeders being called "squirrel be gone" lol we have the same ones. Have a great day !
I love squirrels! They are entertaining, crafty, cunning little critters who also happen to be completely adorable to boot! Nice snaps!
Watching out the window is the very best thing to do on a snow day! smiles...
Oh, I think that is one of my favorite photos of George to date! And the last photo of the squirrel - such a good capture.
Squirrels are such stinkers...but so darn cute! Great shots. And I love your watermark (and the texture!).
archenemy=squirrel. It is what it is. Cute lil'critters tho.
They're such agile little creatures, aren't they? Wonderful series of photos, Kate. You've captured his antics very well.
They love the bird seed, the little tykes. They can be kind of cute though.
I feel very lucky when I can catch a squirrel on camera.
Magnificent job!
Great capture Kate!!! I so want to learn textures... it's on the bucket list.
And I would also like to win those cards!
:-)

I love squirrels. Love them!
I try to give the squirrels a head-start because much as they irritate the crud out of me, I really don't want to see one get caught by Stella-dog. That said, the other day I let her out not knowing a squirrel was in the feeder. The squirrel jumped down...right on Stella's back. It was quite comical to say the least - and yes, the squirrel got away as Stella took off for the hills, she was so unnerved.
Wow. I can totally sense the action. He's like a super hero. Such daring. Such stealth. All he needs is a cape and a mask. Maybe you and the birds should think of him as the Royal Taster, instead of a dastardly thief. *smile*
Squirrels can be aggravating. At least once a year, one will step the wrong way on or near our transformer and cause it to blow, which causes us to lose electricity. And him to die. At least it's a quick death.
What a depressing topic.
Love the photos - the snow is beautiful.
They are so funny. Love it.
as soon as i get my act together, i'm going to do a whole squirrel post, too....
they were everywhere around our cottage in florida....i know, right....
and they taunted me daily. as soon as i would go out with my 17-55 lens they would all dance around my head in the trees above and say "hey".......
but as soon as i put my 70-300 lens on, they were no where to be found....
so i had to be tricky....and pretend i didn't even have my camera which is hard to do....
but i finally got them....and i think when i did, they were actually smiling......
great job of capturing that little scamp. my old dog was really good at chasing the squirrels away, the new one, not so much.
they're fun to watch sometimes, even if they do eat all the bird seed.
omigosh, that is too funny! I can't imagine being quick enough to catch a squirrel...
with my camera. Duh!
I love your photo of the squirrel on the wire... it shows exactly how they hold onto it! What a capture!
oh, I was doing battle with a squirrel all day yesterday.
I've been a bad girl and have been putting a little pile of seed on the ground hoping for the best , but apparently someone put the word out.
I also noticed bunny evidence this morning. sigh.
What to do .
You've captured the squirrel beautifully and George looks fascinated!!
CJ xx
Fun shots ...
I'm laughing because Cassie would be having a coronary over the squirrel. I think she is just as serious as George!
Those tree rats are quick and funny.
George is beautiful!
Hi Kate!@
Love these photos, as usual. Regarding your watermark...the one with George, kind of looks like the word "sky" because the swirl becomes an s and the caps KY stand out. But that's just the way my eye sees it.
And I'd like to ask you about the cardstock you use for your cards. Do you buy those readymade, or do you make those yourself. Very lovely.
Most of Kansas is shut down, so I'm taking a snow day too, even though I don't do anything in the first place to take a day off from. Trying to get up the courage to go out in the -20 wind chill to take pictures.
Hi, Nancy. I've already switched watermarks, so no worries.
I use Strathmore photo mount cards at artsuppliesonline.com. There are a few to choose from. They also sell mylar protective sleeves.
