I knew this night would come – the night before my return to work and the real world. I’ve always loved the quietness of the week after Christmas and I’ve been engaged in many lazy activities. But tomorrow, the real world begins in earnest. And it begins early.
Today, I took down all the holiday decorations, but I couldn’t bear to remove the little tree in the living room, so I left it up for just a few more days.
I just love seeing the lights.
We usually always leave the camera by either the kitchen or breakfast nook window, and today I saw this little marauder out by the row of feeders that line the patio.
The little scamp.
I used a free texture and a tutorial that I found over at Shadowhouse Creations.

And I found this leaf during an afternoon walk. I think that it looks like lace.
I did end up seeing a movie this week with a friend (hi, Margie!). We were in the mood for something light, so we saw ‘How Do You Know’ with Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson, and Jack Nicholson.
We both agreed that it was okay. For me, a highlight was the trailer for a movie that I would love to see, although it won’t be out until the spring. And if you’ve read Water for Elephants, you might want to see it too.
Welcome to all the new faces I’ve been seeing here. Hope you all have a great week in this new year.
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I love that photo of the leaf-like-lace. I also cannot wait for Water for Elephants.
OH WOW... and Robert Patterson looks so yummy in the movie trailer. Looks like a must see, erm, to see the movie, not just because Mr. Patterson is in it of course...:-)

All these shots are as beautiful as always;) Have a wonderful day tomorrow....
That leaf really is spectacular. Tomorrow, not so much.
Gosh that one with the lacey leaf is GORGEOUS!!! What lense?
Thanks for your comments and visits to my place - nice to know others are caring from afar...

I read the book "Water for Elephants" ealier this year. Absolutely superb!! I'll look forward to the movie. Enjoy your posts. Keep them coming!
I love the squirrels you all get up north - gray furry beasties. Or the black ones my family gets in Wisconsin. Just fascinating as we get the standard brown/red squirrels here - and they never put on that much fur! :)
I love the squirrel photo! We have many of our little scamp Squeakers who we rescued, rehabbed and returned to the woods a few weeks ago. We miss him but know he's where he belongs. I'm mourning the last days of vacation as well. The flu pushed our holiday schedule way back and we've just returned home from delayed traveling so I feel tremendously rushed :(
Hope your day goes well tomorrow!
am totally loveing the leaf pic... i think it may be an awesome 3 d or what ever kind of pictures those are that you have :) its just beautiful!
I loved that book..!! I didn't know they had made a movie, can't wait now. I used Shadowhouse's tute the other day on some flower photo's, it's a great finish...

Work tomorrow. Glad I am not the only one. I know I won't sleep well tonight.
Love the pictures...the squirrel is so cute;) So happy you enjoyed your time off!
Love the leaf skeleton. And if you didn't say the photo of the squirrel had a texture added I would've thought you shot it through a window that had a screen in it. haha.

I would have never known how beautiful a leaf could be until I saw your photo! The exquisite details are intriguing!
I hope you sleep well, my friend, and wake refreshed and restored, and love the day that you have been blessed!
Looking forward to Water for Elephants to hit the big screen too!

Hi Kate:
Marauding squirrels and lacy leaves...oh, my! So beautiful! I watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice last night. (I'm a Nicolas Cage fan.) I was entertained by this one.
Sorry to hear the party's over and that you'll have to go back to the real world tomorrow.
xoxo

oh, my gosh....I loved Water for Elephants, it is one of my top ten. The texture on the squirrel is great, compliments it well.
Back to work on Monday....I am actually looking forward to it. I am a slave to routine.
Blessings....

My husband and I were lamenting going back to work tomorrow too! We were counting the years 'til retirement until it became too depressing!!
Your leaf photo is beautiful and it does look like lace. Thanks for the movie trailer, it looks like one I won't want to miss.
Kat :)
How did I stumble upon your lovely blog this evening??? I can't recall just how I landed here, but so glad I did. Always great to meet another Nikon gal. :-)
Hugs,
Anne
Wow, leaf photo = awesome!
The leaf looks like lace to me. And the squirrel ... pesky little imps for something so cute! I hope your Monday goes well with your return to work.
Kate--I think you should turn your leaf photo into a 'Kate Texture.' Very cool.
I watched the movie trailer because Water for Elephants was a superb book. If you want a good one, pick it up! I always think it is better to read the book before seeing the movie. I will definitely go see that one!
I read the book, it was awesome...and I love Robert Pattinson - I'm a Twilight fan, I'll admit it. Looking forward to the movie! Have not seen the trailer yet, thank you for sharing!
I went to see How Do You Know yesterday and was looking forward to the Water for Elephants trailer but they didn't show it! Bummer.
back to the real world...hope you have a great week...
Leaf=Lovely
Have a wonderful week!
smiles.
Ah yes - back to reality - away with Christmas for another year - soon it will all be a distant memory. However, it does come round quite quickly so not all that long til we are celebrating it again.
Loved that book .. and I am sorry I've been MIA .. I do have an excuse note tho ... and those pix are faboo ..
even though we are at the beach, we are surrounded by squirrels in the woods behind us.....and i laugh and take tons of photos and my hubby rolls his eyes...
so i love your squirrel !!
and now i want to see that movie, too !
I loved Water for Elephants. And I love leaf-lace, that shot is gorgeous.
Getting back to the grind is always such a drag, isn't it? But I am glad for January, it is a slow month in my world, I will work but I will also do lots of reading by the fire.
Back to work...blah! the movie looks good!! might just have to see this one! thanks,
have a good day at work!
That movie looks great....
I love the leaf photo. Leaves are like snowflakes, so different.
Have a good week back at work.
I LOVE the Squirrel - and that leaf is exquisite! WOWZA!
Nature never ceases to amaze me:)
It's my first day back at work today. *scowl* As luck would have it, the heat isn't working, so it's frigid in here. All my extremities are extremely cold. Can't see my breath, but almost.
LOVE the first shot of the squirrel. Excellent capture! And, the lacy leaf is beautiful too.
Take it easy tomorrow.
Started work today myself..actually kinda good to get back to the daily grind...be better tomorrow when the kids go back also, felt a little lonley getting up so early today by myself...
We took down the last Christmas decorations today but have left the lights up outside still...partly because it's pretty and partly because the Captain isn't home to help us take them down, but mostly because they're pretty...
LOVED the leaf photo...how delicate. That is the wonderful thing about photography, seeing the world through someone else's eyes....you've got good eyes there Kate! ;-)
Happy New Year Kate! I have been without internet access for nearly a week and missed visiting you...and your beautiful photos.
the week after Christmas has always been one of my favorite weeks too...rest, family, leftovers:)
The detail on that leaf is amazing.
Wow, that leaf. Nature is really amazing and so is your capture of it! xo ~Lili
