Crystals had formed during the night, making beautiful patterns on the storm windows in the bedroom.
So, of course, I ran down the stairs to get the camera.
The sun was just coming up.
And this beauty was left just for me.
And I love the colors.
Nothing altered here. Just the colors of the morning against the frosty panes of glass.
And life is good.

Spectacular Kate! It's one of those fleeting, rare moments that is always fun to capture. Very cool.
Gorgeous photos! Sometimes au naturel beats anything you could do with photoshop.
Nice work!
Beautiful! Glad you were able to capture it with your camera.
Absolute perfection! A tiny, perfect miracle display. :)
wow, those are beautiful.......your house reminds me of the studio......get the same thing on the storms. Maybe not so efficient, but sure pretty.
Wow! Is that gorgeous or what! What a treat!
Amazing Kate. Just amazing. Thank you for showing us.
Well, welcome Kelly and Sarahin SC. I don't believe I've seen you here before.
Thanks, everyone. It was a treat to see.

What an exquisite treat for the eyes to behold!
Beautiful Kate. I'm just getting back on the computer, and these pictures were a lovely way to return. Thanks for your well wishes!
Kat :)
I cannot imagine waking up to ice crystals on the window. If this were to happen in my bedroom, I doubt I could leave the warmth of my covers.
oh Kate those are just beautiful..
*gasps* these are gorgeous! I'm so glad you did get your camera as the sun was coming up and that you decided to share this beauty with us!
I love the colors, too. Thanks for sharing!
GORGEOUS! :D
Not only the colors, but the shapes those crystals make is other-worldly. To see them juxtaposed against that sun is simply incredible. How gorgeous.
Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley would be proud. There is a museum with all his snowflake photographs in Vermont.
OH MY GOODNESS!! That is the most gorgeous!!!
I may have to get up early tomorrow...
Really really wonderful.
Wow..just beautiful. Nature is kind to you. A great way to wake up. You captured it wonderfully.
All I can say is that I LOVE these photos. Love them. What a perfect moment to grab your camera and watching the "sun rise" through the sequence is great. My windows haven't given me such beautiful frost patterns this year, but just a full thick coat instead of designs.

Nature really was kind to me today ~

Sigh. Such beauty. I find myself unable to blog unless I have a good picture to kick-start the process, and I fear my standards for a "good picture" have been raised unreasonably high by following blogs such as yours. Ppphhttt!
I think your blog is the only way I'm gonna get to see the sun rise! :)
Great series of shots, and so early in the morning! Reminded me of Stevie Wonder's Stay Gold:
"But can it be
When we can see
So vividly
A memory
And yes you say
So must the day
Too, fade away
And leave a ray of sun
So gold"
I hope you put these in your shop Kate! They are simply stunning!...What a gorgeous series they would make! I don't think I have used quite enough exclamation points:)
...when we replaced our old windows with new efficient thermal paned windows they told us our heating bills would go down...but no one told me I would never see frost patterns again:(
What a beautiful series of photos for your morning wake up call. Spectacular. You have a lovely blog.
Beautiful! Really breathtaking shots. Thanks for sharing with us.
Ahhhhhh... how absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you for being an early riser!
Helen
Ooooooo.... pretty, pretty!!!
Absolutely amazingly beautiful.
Gorgeous! We had an amazing sunrise here today and I got a few photos. They're not brilliant but I love to see the orange sky.

I'm so glad nature was kind to you today - you and Ree both featured Ms Nature at her finest.
She's being a real bitch over here... thanks for reminding me of the gentler side of her!

PS You just have the BEST eye...
Just wonderful!
that looks cold and warm all at the same time.. very beautiful
I wish I could say I would like it to be cold enough for me to snap a shot or two like these but I cant, not honestly. I hate the cold .. and I think its not to thrilled with me. So its nice to have a friend whose icy mornings can be shared from a nice cozy warm distance..
oh dear, these are so beautiful!
Awesome photos ! Have a warm and wonderful day !
Such beautiful photos!
Love the photos. something magical about ice crystals! we received some snow, slick roads. At work watch it snow some more. would rather be home in my nice warm bed with a cup of hot tea! mmmmmm

Omigosh, that is AMAZING!!! What beautiful images! And at 55 degrees, I thought it was cold in OUR bedroom... :)
How fortunate you are! I dream of awaking to views such as these. Very beautiful! I love that they are just as you saw them.

Not to compare, but Wow! Those, blow my frosted window shot all to H. E. Double Hockey Sticks.
Burnished bronze. That's what comes to mind. Outstanding. So glad you captured those and shared them here.
Awesome photos...awesome colors! Love the ice crystals...that blue is amazing! The blue together with the sun's glow....priceless!
Stay warm...we're finally cold down here! No snow...just cold and gloomy!
Great week to ya!
Gorgeous!!!
Beautiful! I'm thinking you get up pretty early? Rise and shine!
Those pictures of the sun in the window with the ice crystals literally took my breath away.

Merisi
Wow. These shots are just stunning!
Congrats on your POTW. I love these photos and they remind me of when I was a little girl and saw these on the windows. Those of us who have double paned windows no longer see winter;s art.
wow. these shots are brilliant! congrats on the potw
That frost makes a great shot and always brings back some fond memories of childhood.
Nature has the best colours, and the best patterns. Lovely captures.
Congratulations on POTW

I was just over at Hilary's Smitten Image and noticed you received a POTW on your photos so had to come back and congratulate you. These really ARE nice photos, Kate.
