Snow beneath whose chilly softness

I awoke this morning to a beautiful world transformed by snow. After I got the 5:30 call that school would be closed, I looked out the window and then fell back asleep and hoped that I wouldn’t sleep through the sunrise.

And I am so glad I didn’t miss it.

Here in Maryland, today’s sunrise was 7:26 a.m. so I had to get dressed and bundled up quickly to catch it.

We have about 4-6 inches of the white stuff today and I’ve been outside in it for a couple of hours, walking and taking photos to share here with you.

I have said this a million times, but I don’t care – we are so lucky to be here in this home on this property. It’s just wonderful sometimes.

Ok. I’ll stop now.

I love when the snow sticks to the branches and every tiny little thing.

I love my new favorite breakfast cereal, too. I’m having some right now. Have you ever tried Yogi cereals? The cherry almond crunch is fantastic. Today I’m having the walnut spice crunch, which is also good.

It was so quiet, with that muffled sound that comes from a nice blanket of snow.

I absolutely love this soft, gentle morning light.

I love me a good dog, too.

At this time, George and I would like to say hello to Grace. She knows who she is.

Hey, Grace! Were you up at sunrise?

: : ~ : :

Want to find out when the sun rises and sets in your part of the world?

Sunrise and sunset times

: : ~ : :

Today I am venturing up to the third floor where I think I will wear my coat and gloves. I’m gathering clothing for a drive at school and if I’m really industrious, I may clean out my closet afterward.

But then again, I’ll probably nix the closet thing. It’s too beautiful to be inside all day. I may go sit in the sunshine and take pictures of birds.

: : ~ : :

So what’s happening in your world today? Inquiring minds want to know.

Beautiful! I wish I had more freedom to roam today, but alas, I have 4 kids home, two of which, can't keep up with me. They look like gigantic marshmallow puffs in their snowsuits :)

The wind is blowing here and with the temp and wind chill it's in the teens.

I'll be inside all day until it's time to do animal chores this evening....

Beautiful pictures. I recently cleaned out my closet and gave a lot of stuff away.

In my world, we got about 2 feet of the pretty stuff. Gonna dig out most of the day. Followed by some wine at darktime;)

I will swear George is actually smiling in one of those photographs - seems he loves the snow too.

Fresh snow is so beautiful and photogenic! The mornings after snow storms are THE BEST time to get photos of it too, while its still so fluffy and pure. Right now we are inundated with snow... about a foot and its still falling heavily! Tomorrow should be a beautiful sight. Oh, and I love the photo of George between the three trees. With the soft morning light that is one of the best photo's I've seen of him.

We had snow here last night too, on the west coast of Canada...but already it's beginning to melt and be replaced by rain. Sigh. Your snowy pics are beautiful, so I'll vicariously enjoy it through you!

Today I'll either be painting the bathroom or painting a canvas...it's still a toss up.

Beautiful sunrise...beautiful photographs! We just got wet with a touch of ice from this last storm. Thanks so much for the sunrise/sunset link ~ they even had my city! :)

oooh, there's a whole lot of snowshoveling going on. We have about 18 inches and it's still falling.

LOVE the birdhouse photo.

Lovely photos, especially the red bird house. Our sunrise here was quite similar and beautiful. Glad I'm not having to dig myself out to get anywhere today!

What a gorgeous series! Snow is falling in buckets down here in Southwest Virginia and the weather forecast is calling for it to continue through midday tomorrow, especially on the western slopes. I'm going to have to bundle up and get some photos of buddy romping in the snow. He absolutely loves it!

So, so pretty Kate! We got a light coating of ice, not enough to make things beautiful, just enough to be treacherous. :(

Enjoy your winter wonderland and give George a nice pat on the head for me please!

Beautiful early morning photography! Boy the east coast is getting it again! Nothing here around Montreal - except a pretty good wind chill, still it's warmer than normal for this time of year. Today they are expecting a high of about -4C.

Simply breathtaking captures Kate. Love that time of day too. Yes you are very blessed to live there and I enjoy hearing of your gratitude. It always reminds me to remember to express a litte myself because I like you really appreciate where I live too. Have a beautiful rest of the day! We here are so enjoying the beautiful blizzard from right inside our place by the warmth of our cozy woodstove. xoxo ~Lili

Gorgeous photos, Kate! I agree that you're lucky to live there, and we're lucky we get to at least look at it (not that I'm jealous or anything-lol!). George looks very happy in the snow!

We did the same thing this morning Miggy and I as you and George did. You and I seem to feel the same about the snow that sticks to everything making it look so pretty the piecefulness of it all after a snow fall, I just love it. Great post and photos ! Have a warm and snap happy day !

Country Gal said...

OH Miggy says Hi TO George!
PSSTTT !Dont tell I told ya , she thinks George is cute !

You are lucky.
And I'm jealous in a friendly happy for you still way :)

We had less snow than you , which was good as my husband had a flight to catch. It's all very picturesque , though, and important to find the beauty when we don't think there is any.

Love your header and quote.

Oh my, that light!. I have the snow, but no sunshine...am working (since I work at home always) but pretending it's a snow day.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful world.

Ummm, beautiful photos again today. We woke up to that beautiful snow and sunrise this morning too - actually in your part of the world. My husband has been working on a project for a client near Aberdeen for the past week and I went along to keep him company. I thought about taking some photos out the hotel windows, but they weren't as spotfree as I would have liked. So, I've enjoyed yours even more!

The photo of George in the woods with the soft sunlight should be framed! It's gorgeous. I don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging more than once that you're grateful for something. You do live on beautiful property and I'll say (again) that I'm grateful for you sharing it with us.

We got just a bit of icy snow last night. Woke to the rain taking it away. Slush now but Maddy Jean & Bella had a grand time in it this morning.

Thank you all for coming by and taking the time to comment. I did manage to get all the clothes bagged up and now just have to get them into the car.

Haven't seen the sun since early this morning. But oh, wait ~ here it comes as I write!

I could look at snow pictures all day. Yours are lovely.

I happen to be in the one state that has no snow anywhere right now....Florida. :-(

Oh Kate, these are gorgeous! I woke up just around sunrise (went to bed after 1:00 am because I was up waiting for my hone to get home from his class in the city) but I went back to sleep... thought about taking pics, but went back to bed instead!

Thanks for sharing these beautiful images!

Beautiful sunrise pictures!!! I'm a bigger "fan" of sunset pics because I am "up and around" and on the move at that time of day. Sometimes sunrise just comes too early--but I know I'm the one missing out.

We woke up to a thick layer of snow this morning too! Sadly, it was all gone by noon, washed away by rain. Sure was pretty while it lasted though.

I LOVE the bird house all piled high with snow. So pretty & cute.

I have a girlfriend who is seriously into cereal. I'll have to tell her about Yogi Cereal.

Okay, you can send some of your snow down our way. We'll take it off your hands. It has been down right cold here. A half an inch of snow has been on the ground all week. Nothing exciting. Love your snow pics and of course George. He looks like he is having way to much fun.

Really beautiful pictures Kate, I thoroughly enjoyed looking through them all.

Hi, your photos are stunning. I know I have said this before but you are so lucky to be surrounded by all of that natural beauty. I can never see enough photos of that gorgeous house. I love the way you write. You make me chuckle. Enjoy the day.

I'm really jealous of your beautiful snow. I live in FL and earlier this week it was reported that we were the only state without snow (including Hawaii!) Oh well, I guess our beautiful beaches are the trade off but I'm still jealous. Thanks for the beautiful pictures so I can get a sense of its peace and beauty.
