I thought it wasn’t coming until much later this afternoon, but I awoke very early this morning to an odd light, the kind of early morning light that only snow can bring. All morning long, big fat flakes fell at a rapid rate and then would slowly change to a fine mist, only to begin the cycle again a short while later.
Really quite beautiful.
I shot the photo above through the windows of the breakfast nook. Our driveway runs down that fence line that you can see in the background.
I opened one of the windows in the living room and shot this one. If you look really closely, you can see George in the very center of this photo. But don’t strain yourself. I can hardly see him there, myself. Click photo to embiggen slightly.
Out the front door, looking to the east here.
And straight ahead, catching the huge holly tree in the yard.
Shot out the kitchen window. And now to find something else to do.

One can really "feel" these photos. That one of George right in the middle of the tree is extaordinary....once you see him!! I am always amazed how different our weather is from yours. We aren't that far apart....but one would think we were!! Stay warm and safe.

The sun's out today. With the wind and sun, hopefully our arena will dry out and I can ride tomorrow!
I could look at your photos all day:)
oh my not that is cold.....
Oh, I see George.. right at the very base and center of the big tree trunk. Sort of like a Where's Waldo - only much prettier.
I agree with Marilyn - the one of George in the middle of that tree is just fantastic! A beautiful blend of black and white. Thanks for sharing your unexpected snow day!
Thank you for sharing! It is snowing here now, a very heavy snow that is quickly covering everything. I'm ready for a little sunshine!
Oh that looks beautiful. George sure does blend in. Had you not said he was there, I wouldn't have noticed.
WOW...all of them are gorgeous! I love how you processed them too! I want a snow day now!
Its snowing here and it looks like I am trapped in a snow globe ....
We are getting mild weather, strange.
But my daughter who goes to UMASS said more snow on the way.... I'll double check but you are sort of ish near there I think . Well nearer, than me near Toronto.
The East sure is getting clobbered this year! My family lives in eastern Connecticut and it is the snowiest January on record! But, out west here, we are having an unusually mild January with sun and temps in the 60s to 70s. This is our rainy season!
...I found him! Finally. *now cross-eyed* hee,hee,hee ;o)
...I love snow. *sigh* And your photos are beautiful Kate. *sigh again* :o)
...Blessings...
Nice Shots! We only got rain this time :-(
I must be blind - I couldn't see George in the one photo, oy vey and I just got my eyes checked. I can't believe the snow you all have gotten this year, you must be getting a bit tired of it all.
It's looking a lot like that here today too. So glad my husband chose to work from home.
Stay warm and safe.
Such beautiful, beautiful pics! No snow here in Oz. Just sunshine and then rain! It's been a topsy-turyvy summer so far, but it's bound to get hot once my kids go back to school in a weeks time!
So beautiful. A veritable winter wonderland.
Knew i could count on you for pictures! :) I wasn't home til after dark to take any. I love your yard.
Oh, these are beautiful! Lots of snow here, not much rain. enjoy your day off. :)
Embiggen, that totally made me laugh. Really quite beautiful indeed.
Snow feathers. I love it when snow looks like this. I hope your power stayed on and you had a well stocked fridge. Stay warm~
WOW! Love the snow, but more than that love the apps you used on the photos. They look like they were found in great-grannie's attic of a snow fall long ago! Enlarging the photo, I finally found George! Ya'll are surely getting a whole lot of the white stuff this winter! I guess you have to make up these snow days...too many of 'em? Enjoy!
Our snow didn't arrive until about noon today, and only about 2 inches... then it moved on north. Hope you are not getting more of it tonite! It is beautiful though.
Lovely vintage look....smiles
Great photos but now I'm crazy to find George. It's almost like an I Spy Book.
oh oh oh.....love the old look of the new photos !!
seriously, loooooooove.
CG, this is my favorite set of snow photos from you yet - absolute STUNNERS, every one. It might be my own particular taste, but the texture/sepia treatments you used are positively divine
I hope the rest of your day was as equally boring and dull as these ;>}
Reading your blog is almost like going to a meditation retreat... peaceful, quiet and very calming.
How beautiful! I hope you enjoyed your day!
We hardly got anything, darn it! But I'm not complaining, as I type this at nearly midnight, my poor daughter is "still" slogging her way home from training she had today north of the city. She has been on the road for 7 hours and 10 minutes and has only traveled 11 miles and still has one more to go!
Beautiful photos, and I could see George, but only after I made the photo larger!
Kat :)
We got snow today too....and it is still snowing...I am just so happy that I am not working right now! As long as I don't have to be at work by 7AM I think it is beautiful!
Gorgeous! You do live in a beautiful place. In all seasons!
I especially like the first photo. It looks like an old postcard.
Fabulously beautiful photos!
It looks like Wonderland! Beautiful pictures and I could see George. First time on your blog and it's lovely!
I LOVE them ALL! You make snow look so LOVELY!
Have I told you lately that I... REALLY want to just run outside and roll in your snow. I know you might think it's too cold, but it's almost 30 degrees Celsius at 9pm here. Looks delicious!
:-)

I love the snow. I love watching it come down. Great pictures Kate.
Hopefully we will get some snow on Monday. For now I'll enjoy yours!!
Beautiful photos ! did you use the settings on the camera to make the photos look like that. I think its great you can do things like that right on the camera! Have a wonderful day !
Hi Kate. Gorgeous winter photos! Love the processing, the beauty of it, even though you may be ready to quit snow by now. My husband was in Boston yesterday and was pretty sure his flight out would get canceled, but they did leave. He said it was so beautiful floating & floating, no wind.
Thanks for taking photos, editing, sharing! I always love to come here.
These images are stellar as usual! Love, love, love them!!
Beautiful snow! You have the perfect yard for capturing the expanse and light of all that white!
Long time ago, abut I'm back to visit your blog.
Wonderful winterday.
Thank's for sharing.

Dark tree trunks and snow really make a good George camouflage, I think I saw him though. Love that holly tree, it's so perfectly shaped and dreamy with it's cloak of snow. xo ~Lili
I will never say, I have too much snow.
