Verdant

It has rained here in Maryland for 7 straight days. Oh, we’ve had a little bit of sunshine here and there, but I am just beginning to get a little weary of it all. You know, the dampness, the soggy trails, the frizzy hair. Well, maybe not for you, but my hair and rain is never a good combination.

Driving home today in a downpour, I was envisioning getting out of the car with all my bags, in the pouring rain. But miraculously, the rain stopped as soon as the car stopped.

After putting away everything and making a fuss over the dog, I got changed and headed out for a walk.

When I got outside, I noticed the color of the sky and that the sun was beginning to come out. So I went back inside for the camera.

In the back yard, the sky remained gray as the clouds cleared behind me.

It was simply beautiful.

That’s the garden in the center there, and it looks very small in this picture.

The blue of the sky and the sun is beginning to take over here.

Earthworms were all over the trail, squiggling around and doing their thing. Sorry if you don't like worms.

By the time I got here, the sun was bright.

The trail was a mess to navigate though, so I decided to quit. Sometimes I give up too easily but I’m going to console myself with the fact that it was a long week and I’m just plain tired today.

There’s my little friend waiting for me alongside the trail up there. Do you see him?

I decided to cut through the lawn on the way back.

All this rain has made the earth here so rich and lush with green and it’s so beautiful.

In other news ~

The search continues for a vacation place but I’m so blessed to be able to go on vacation in the first place, so no complaints.

Lots of drama on American Idol in the ending 5 minutes of last night’s show. The look on Haley’s face, not only of disbelief, but of disgust, perhaps, at having been voted out.

Tonight I’m watching a movie that my friends at Netflix mailed to me. On my laptop tonight, I’m showing ‘Knight and Day’, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. It looks fast-paced and action packed. Woot.

My husband changed around some of the furniture in the living room yesterday and I love it. Even if I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t really care anyway. It’s just furniture.

Fish sticks for dinner tonight. We’re true gourmets here, dontcha know.

Hope your weekend is a good one. Until later then . . .

So glad you got a bit of sunshine for your walk! Everything is so lush, green and pretty! I wish we could get some rain. It's hot, dry and the grass is crispy. Seems the weather is at extremes these days.

Thanks for posting a picture of George... I was beginning to miss his face!

We had leftover homemade chili over micro-waved hot dogs... Actually your fish sticks sound mighty tasty.

Oh I really want fish sticks now that you mention it. Darned pregnancy cravings...

And it looked so green and beautiful here this afternoon, too. I believe we've had six straight days of rain. When the clouds separated my husband and I hit the road in our mustang and I snapped some photos on my iPhone. Not the same, but I still couldn't bare not to take SOME photos anyway I could. :)

Rain all week here too...not only is it nice and green but the grass and the dandelions are about a foot tall and it is too wet to mow...hopefully that will be tomorrow's exercise...

As far as Idol goes I am not even going to watch next week:( I already know who will win and there is really no competition there...can you tell that I was a Haley fan?

Have a wonderful weekend Kate!

i think your 7 days of rain is coming our way....an ark might be in our future if the weatherman is right :(

the only good thing about the rain....
our pond is so low and needs water desperately...i can tell my turtles are miserable. so for them, i will take one for the team :)

i'm nice like that !
happy weekending to youuuuuuuu........

and i forgot.....i totally agree. the look on haley's face was of sheer pain or disgust or disbelief....it was almost as if it was all in slow motion based on how long she looked miserable.....

Our rivers have flooded we have had soo much rain. It has been nice this week & a little drying out was done. Now it is supposed to rain for the next 7 days. Hopefully not in the huge amounts it did previously!!!

This whole spring has been one big rainy event. Very nice pics today. High five to you for getting out and walking despite the wet conditions.

I love how the rain makes everything so green looking. Out here, we had 4 days of rain and I was so glad to see the sun yesterday!

I heard an interesting stat last night. All of baseball had a total of 20 rain-outs last year. This year, there has already been 30. Seems it has been a rainy spring everywhere.

Fish sticks were our dinner tonight too. Love them! :0)

I know!!! The rain has to stop! Even today, the sun was teasing me off and on. Just couldn't decide what it wanted to do. But I love the lushness of everything and your word "verdant".

And yes, we agree ... Haley's look was one of shock. Deserves her right for being so cocky! I was a James fan ... But Scotty has such a big career ahead of him no matter what.

Hopin' for some sunshine for all us up here!

Hi, the grounds look great. We have had the same weather here in Mass. Rain for the past 7 days. This afternoon in Boston the sun came out for awhile and I took a late lunch hour walk to take advantage before the sun went back in. I hope tomorrow will be better.

A great post with beautiful photos (your property is a sundae and the house is the cherry on top) but I got hung up on the last thing you wrote- FISHSTICKS??? Oh lordy girl...ugh...don´t even know where to begin on that one...although I will admit my kids love fishsticks but I am always concerned what exactly is in that fishy part in the middle- it isn´t JUST fish...fishsticks are kinda like fishy hot dogs...a blend of lord knows what, throw some bread crumbs on it and hope no one tastes the middle part...hahahaha...now had you cut fish filet into strips and breaded it I would have been mega impressed....and you don´t have to be gourmet to come up with that one!!! hahaha....Have a super Saturday, hope the sun shines and path dries up!!

We've had the same weather here... last night the sun came out for a few hours and it was actually hot and humid! This morning... rain. *sigh*

We've had flooding rain this year after a decade of extreme drought so it's green here in Queensland too. Love those photos, even of the worms!

Fish sticks are awesome, especially when someone else fixes them.

Hope the sun is shining there today. It's going to be beautiful here.

Yep, verdant is the perfect word -- it's so green there!

And I LOVE the earthworm shot and that you photographed it! :D

Sorry you had a long week ... hope you can slow things down and enjoy the weekend now.

Kate, you're my kind of gal.... that sounds like a perfect kinda day. And the rain bad for the hair? ditto here. Mine not only is frizzy but thin.... oh well.... there are way worse things to be cursed with....

Deb said...

I hear you on the hair thing...we've had rain and humid weather this week...and my hair is a mess...I have a wave to my hair but not the pretty kind...I use a straightener...but with this weather it lasts till I walk outside..yuck..usually ends up in a ponytail or under a hat...

Your post never fail to put me in a calm, relaxed state of mind. The mix of words and photos is just perfect.

Much rain and frizzy hair here too Kate. Love it when we get those fleeting peeks of sun. And yeah you noticed that too on Idol? I really did love her voice though. Glad you get to come to Maine too, wish I knew the perfect place for you right off the carriage trails, it can be so frustrating to find rentals here! xoxo ~Lili

I love the smell right after it rains, and how the sky turns blue when the clouds part.

Verdant is right! Our area is the same; almost too green to look at without shades. We've had cool temperatures and rain 14 out of the past 19 days. Then the sun finally came out today, we hit 81 and the forecast is calling for highs approaching 90 next week! I love that house and your friend is one fine looking animal!

BTW - We had that very same hummingbird feeder until a hungry black bear wandered into Burd Town last spring and destroyed it and the suet feeders. THE BOSS had me move all the feeders higher up the tree and decided a new hummingbird feeder 15 feet off the ground would be too much trouble to fill.

whew, same here, except today the sun was shining all day and it was glorious. hope it was shining on you as well!
p.s. verdant is one of my favorite words.

I'm so tired of the rain! It's been raining here for about 2 weeks, and today we had sun for about 4 hrs. then it started raining again!

Verdant indeed, sounds like and looks like you had a lovely walk, your photos are just lovely, lush and green!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh Kate, those landscapes are gorgeous!!! Saturday was our only day of sun this week, and we actually got a shower in the afternoon even though the rest of the day was OK...

How sweet to see George waiting for you! The only time the cat looks for me is 4:30 in the morning... :)

Granddaughter turned 4 today--so of course we had fast food supper. I used to love to have fish sticks when the kids were small.

I had to grin when you said "my little friend" (George)--it made me think of Al Pacino in Scarface so long ago. Of course, you're just a baby and you shouldn't be watching that sort of trash anyway!;)

Oh I love taking walks with you and George. Thank you. Fish sticks...oh I haven't had those in eons. Sounds yummy.

Flea said...

Hi George! I'm hoping for earthworms shortly. We just got a baby chick. Hoping for all the natural help I can get. :) And your garden is lovely!

The JR said...

George is such a photogentic guy. I guess the rain made those earthworms come to the surface.

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure what it is about the trees on the property, especially the ones on the left in the picture after the earthworm :) but I just really would love to touch them, soak in the history and what they've endured to be standing so strong and tall and majestic. You truly are blessed to be where you are and I am so happy to hear how you appreciate and enjoy it too.

Be well.
