It’s Saturday morning as I write this and oh my gosh – is it ever a beautiful day. It’s a day that has no particular plan other than my resolve NOT to do any cleaning.
I have done something to my knee. I woke up last Saturday in terrible pain and by Monday at work, was having electrical shock-like shooting pain near the kneecap. Thank heavens it only lasts about 10-20 seconds at a time, but the pain? It is intense. I scheduled an appointment with a new orthopedist that comes highly recommended and I’ll see him on Tuesday. Meanwhile, I am bracing it. And NSAIDs work. And I’ll sometimes go for hours on end with no pain. Ok, enough talk of such things. I can’t stand it when people go on and on about their ailments and I don’t want to be doing that to you.
One evening this week, I put on my pop-up flash bounce and took some pictures of my best friend. Unfortunately, he didn’t feel much like posing.
When John came over to fix the hatch to the widow’s walk this Wednesday after it blew off the roof in the storm, he brought his wife and daughter with him. His wife is a co-worker of mine, and a good friend. We had tea while John and my husband worked on the hatch situation. Their daughter, Gabrielle, was a little concerned about how George would be with her because the last time she saw him, he wasn’t very friendly.
For some reason George is afraid of children. He runs from them. Gabrielle was much smaller when she last saw George and I completely understood her hesitation. But Gabrielle is in 9th grade now and much taller and I’m glad to say that George is officially in love with her. When they got here, George was excited to see company and wanted to play. We were standing in the kitchen so I told him to go to his toy box and get one of his toys. “Get your snowy owl”, I said.
Christine and her daughter looked at each other as if to say, “yeah – right. Like he’s actually going to go get a toy because you asked him to.”
So imagine their surprise when he came back not just with a toy, but with the toy I requested. We went into the living room then and George proceeded to astound them with his leaping and fetching abilities. Gabrielle was worn out after a half hour of toy-throwing. Once George finds a new friend to toss toys, he doesn’t quit.
He was so happy.
Yes, George. You are a clever boy.
The sunset on Thursday. You can see the roofs of the houses in one of the two developments that border the property. They look quite close from this vantage point, but they’re really not. And in the spring and summer when the leaves are thick on the trees, you wouldn’t even know they’re back there.
Hope your weekend is full of good things.
Because that’s what weekends should be, right?
Until later, my friends ~

Your gorgeous George sure has boundless energy. He looks like he'd really like to get out and round up some sheep! He'd enjoy the wide open spaces here in Australia!
Sorry about your knee. If it is any consolation, I had a similar problem with one of mine in NYC when I was visiting my daughter at some stage. That was a while ago, and I think in winter. Never knew it could be so painful. It gradually got better and hasn't bothered me like that ever since! Thank goodness! Hope yours wil be fine soon too.
So glad you got the roof fixed Kate. Lovely to have some friends who can pop in and help! And enjoy their company.
ps. Hope you enjoy a lovely quiet Saturday. It is very late here. I ought to be asleep! A coffee late in the afternoon is not a good thing for me! ;-(
Oh lovely George ! Miggs does the same thing tell her to a certain toy and she does aren't they so clever ? Oh I hope your knee gets better and the pain goes away . I know all about that to ! Glad you all had a nice visit ! Wonderful photos ! The weather here is lovely today ! Have a good weekend !
Love GEORGE! Sending prayer for that knee, dear
Aloha
Happy weekend!!
I think that George and our Red Heeler Maggie would get a long very well. Maggie loves her stuffies and could play fetch for hours on end!
It's early here and my Saturday is just starting. My husband was up early as he has field work to get done. After a long winters sit, the tractors are back in the fields and prepping the ground for spring planting.
I need to plan my day and get a move on. Enjoy your Saturday and I do hope that knee situation straightens out soon!
Love seeing George and the sunset is gorgeous. Sorry to hear about your knee. Hopefully your new doctor can do something to help. I understand about the pain. I recently had over two weeks of back spasms caused by Sciatica. Thankfully the muscle relaxant and pain meds worked. Hate taking pain meds but sometimes you have too. Hoping you feel better soon! Enjoy your weekend. ~Cindy
Ouch! Sorry to hear about the pain in your knee. Sounds like a nerve thing or something. I hope it goes away soon and turns out to be nothing.
Your doggy is so cute!
I like your plan to do no cleaning today. Enjoy the beautiful day!
This made me smile. Except the part about your knee. Hugs.
Love your George...and how fun that he found a new friend. I have a really smart one too..that will fetch his toys on command. Don't we just love our furry pets!!
How nice that George and Gabrielle made friends. I have a dog that is scared of children too. Also of anyone in a baseball cap. I think with the children, it is their sudden movements, but I cannot understand the baseball cap.
I sure hope your knee is better soon, Kate.
No cleaning sounds mighty fine to me!
Ouch! That knee sounds very painful! I hope you have some good answers on Tuesday.
We have lots of sunshine here today. Short-lived, however, as rain is due in a couple of days.
Enjoy your Saturday!
Have I been living in a cave or did you change your header! I love it! And Border Collies rock.
Hoping that pain in your Knee is a temporary pain. Limping just isn't a good way to get around.
I wonder why the phobia of children? Might be their small size, quick movements. He is probably the most photogenic dog I've ever known.
Good luck with the knee, hoping it's nothing-much.
Oh I just love George! What a face. And how nice for him to make a new friend! :)
George is as handsome as ever :)
Hope your knee gets better soon.
PS - Fabulous weather here - I was able to spend about 5 hours outside in it ..... thrilling :)
My heart skipped a beat when I saw the photo of George sitting looking out of the window - that is something very special that image!
Hope your knee gets better soon - take good care not to do too much!
My collies were never relaxed with children unless they knew them - and then they were close friends. Quick movements - sudden shouts - and just the energy which is unpredictable. Lovely when they do get close though - there is something very moving about the friendship of a dog and a child. My Blue had some long term fans who still miss her - even though they hadn't seen her for many years, since childhood.
I must show Bonnie how well George poses - when I aim a camera at her she comes forward and licks the lense or my face - whichever is first!
have a peaceful sunday
Kate x
Hi found you over at this old house too. Just added you to my list so im your newest follower i hope you have a great weekend
I always read you but don't always comment, but your George so reminds me of our Annie, who is a red & white Border collie and sooooo smart that I had to comment. I know what you mean. People don't believe how smart they are. In fact she amazes ME daily. :) I wish I could capture with my camera our Annie as well as you capture George. Those looks are so priceless. :)
Oh, I meant to tell you that I too have been dealing with knee pain. I have been going to a chiropractor for mine and its been helping. Turned out to be my sacroiliac out of place causing the ligaments to shorten on one knee and pull like crazy.
oh george....you are so smart and so funny !!...well, gorgeous too, but you already knew that :)
our new grand-dog is half boxador and half {don't laugh} miniature dachshund....so adorable and i'm praying as smart as george :)
Oh, well phooey! You have a lot more complaining to do before you catch up to me, my friend! I hope you are feeling better soon :( Pain is no fun.
I. Love. George.
He proves animals have a soul. We can see it in his eyes.
Sorry to hear about your knee, I hope you get some relief soon! And sweet George, he is always so handsome. Quinn and Misty aren't fond of little kids either, but they both love my nephew, and have since he was about middle school age...he's in 10th grade now.
Kat
Gotta say, in that last picture of George, his eyes look like he knows EXACTLY what you are saying!!!
Thanks for pictures of that Gorgeous George!!! That face!
Anyway, take care of that knee. Hopefully it's a short term problem. Everyone have a peaceful weekend...no cleaning necessary;)
CG,, would a heat patch or heat wrap help your knee at all ? Hoping the aches go away.
As remarkable as George's spectacular fur is, the personality and intelligence in his eyes are special. I could see him being a champion sheep herder, following 200 + complicated signals whistled over the pasturelands...

That last photo of George is so sweet! My sister had a border collie and she was never much for children either. Think it has to do with their herding instinct.
George is a smart boy--photogenic too!
He looks absolutely gorgeous. I was attacked by a Border Collie when I was a little girl; it hated girls specifically for some reason!
I want to hug George. Don't tell Riley, okay?
Always a pleasure to see George! So hoping relief comes soon with your knee dear friend. Btw, did I tell you I bought that pop up flash and LOVE it! Thanks for telling us about it.
Ouch. So sorry to hear about your knee. I've been there and know how it feels. Hope your appointment goes well and it is nothing serious.
George is so adorable. Glad he made friends this time with your friend's daughter. It's so difficult to be a dog lover and be with a dog who doesn't love you back. But I certainly understand how that goes - our dog would let you pet her head, but I was the only on who could touch her back because of her allergies.
Hope your knee feels better soon.
We have 2 feet of snow on the ground and it has been raining all weekend. It is going to take a longtime for it to melt. My chipmunks have been popping their little heads out of the deep snow. They are driving my Sheltie nuts!
George is SO handsome!

i hope you get some help from the new doc, that knee must get fixed!!!!!
do you think George originally mistook this kid for Lauren??????? ;)
Sharp pains like that are really annoying.
Maybe that's why my dog Country didn't like children. She was part border collie/Australian shepherd and catahoula.
I lost her on Tuesday, she was 18. Heartbroken doesn't describe the hurt and lost feeling of losing my child.
I totally understand George's fear of small children. I had surgery on the left side of my head in November. Since then I have been afraid of little kids. They flail their arms and don't look at who or what they are hitting. They don't mean to be scarey, but they are. George is such a beautiful dog and I know he brings you and your husband much love and joy. Hope your knee gets better soon.
From now on, please coordinate your photo sessions with George's publicist. He does not enjoy the papparazzi. ;) Love that last photo of him in the doorway -- so sweet!
Hope your knee feels better soon. Getting old sucks.
xoxo
Looks like you've got a lot of spam comments here!
Claudia, I cannot respond to you directly (your e-mail is not enabled). I am sorry to learn of your surgery.
Hope you get better soon, sorry to hear about the medical troubles
CHeck out my awesome travel blog when you can!
Is your knee better?? I am coming in late to the party. SO behind on my blogs.
Hope your knee has settled out by now...so sorry to hear it's acting up again. Oh George...we must meet and I will ask you to fetch your 'paraquay' falcon. He is so sweet! xoxo
So sorry to hear that your knee problem has flared up again:( I do hope you can find some relief for it soon. I started taking yoga at the Y two nights a week and my shoulders are so much better than they were! I really didn't think that would happen but I sure am happy.
George is stellar:)
