New favorites

I interrupt the regularly scheduled post to bring you this: totally unrelated snippets of things that I happen to like at this particular moment in time. Let me tell you, I like a lot of things, but I don’t have photos of all of them, so this will probably be a fairly short list.

But it’s pretty much all over the place.

I made this for dinner tonight, after finding the recipe on Pinterest a few days ago. I love trying out new dinner ideas and am always looking for something simple that my husband will like too. When I saw this one, I thought it might be right up his alley.

And I was right. I served him first, and by the time I got to the table with my plate, he was already chowing down. I could tell he liked it, and asked him if he thought it was good. He told me it was, then added, “and it looks like it’s already been chewed.”

Ok. What the what?

When I started laughing, he looked at me like I had two heads. And it was at this point that I knew he wasn’t trying to be funny. After dinner, I realized what he meant to say was that it was EASY to chew. He like how it tasted, but he especially liked that the items in it were in tiny proportions. Little pieces of chopped bacon, little pieces of chicken, broccoli, etc. I don’t think I’m ever going to forget that he told me it looked like it was already chewed. But this is definitely a meal I’m making again.

I just finished this book and thought it was excellent.

In the opening scene, the author is in a NY taxicab. Through the window she sees a woman going through a dumpster. She is almost afraid to look, in the fear that it will be her mother, who she knows has been living homeless on the streets of the city. The woman turns, and the author begins to shrink down in her seat when she realizes it is her mother. And so begins a chronicle of Jeannette Walls’ life, beginning at age 3 where she and her family are living an un-conventional and for the most part, highly dysfunctional life. The determination of the children, especially the author, was astonishing.

I can’t get enough hummingbirds.

I love trying to capture them with my camera and it’s probably the number one thing I enjoy doing: bird photography. It floats my boat.

My new summertime scent. I’ve been wearing it every day for the past couple of months.

And it makes me feel mahvelous, dahling.

sweetTea

Firefly sweet tea flavored vodka and Simply Limeade on ice.

This is an absolutely delicious summertime cocktail. I discovered it by accident last weekend when I went to make an Arnold Palmer using Simply Lemonade and realized I only had the Limeade. So much better with the Limeade!

I can’t believe how comfortable these are. I have two pairs, but it’s this one that is the better of the two. I like the give of the stitched cording and the soles are so comfortable.

You are one of those people who can make me smile, want to read a book (you know how I hate reading), start drinking (in a good way),buy stuff, and eat! This is why I keep coming back for more. :)

And I am loving a piano we had delivered today...even if I do suck after years of not playing!

You must have a lot of readers in BC, Canada...because every time I read about a good book on your blog, and check the library it already has holds on it. This book has over 20 holds already..but I am more then willing to wait.

Loving your shares...and the hummingbirds are darling.

I'm liking the post of my bloggie friends.... That's about it these days; so thanks for sharing bits and pieces of your life! Considering getting a galaxy s4 thanks to you. So when my daughter whines about not having any new clothes for school, I'll tell her to talk to you about it :-) but I need something fun and I just love the pics you take with yours. (And yes, I do realize that complaining about not having anything "fun" and superfluous is totally ridiculous b/c I have food, a good place to live and my health; I'm just having a moment; I'll snap out of it! )

Well, that chicken dish sounds delicious... and that made me smile.

I am liking black-eyed susans everywhere in my garden just now, and late summer nights reading.

your bird pictures are the best!

A quiet evening with a 'possum after the chickens. The farm team went into action.

I think I have forgotten to eat today since there were obligations and your dish made me hungry...I will wait for breakfast.

Have a blessed night and day.

I loved that book. She also wrote a semi-autobiographical novel about her maternal grandmother's life, which is really worth reading too!

If you haven't already read it I highly recommend Half Broke Horses, which is the story of Jeannette Walls grandmother and is very, very good!

I've made a few of those already chewed looking meals....

Looks delicious.

Is that book based on a true story?

Things I'm liking:

- Keds running shoes. I wear them in the house, the garden, to the store. I wore two pair out in the past year and just bought a replacement pair that should arrive in the mail any day now.

- Peppermint Tea. After my morning cup of coffee, it's almost all I drink during the balance of the day. It's like comfort food and it's good for the tummy.

- Afternoon naps. 'nuff said.

Well you've got me - I put a request in for a copy of "The Glass Castle" through my library because, well, that type of story is definitely something I want to read. I love book recommendations!

That recipe looks good, too...and it doesn't seem to complicated (speaking as one who does not cook unless that means pasta, or something frozen or microwavable). Gonna have to check that out.

Oh Kate, that hummingbird photo just knocked my socks off! (so to speak). Love that delicate border embellishment so much b/c my eyes went immediately to those tiny fleur-de-lis'....so awesome and dainty and feminine the way you put it all together. (Ok I'll shut up and just pin it.) Fun story about your ABC entree. :) xoxo

Gotta say...I'm right with you on the bird photography (and butterflies). You're better at it than me but I've gotten quite a few I love.

That books sounds like it's going on my wish list. Hummingbirds.. we're up at our new place right now and oh how we have hummingbirds here. My camera is getting a workout. So far, I've not managed great shots.

I want to ask you about another one of your preveiously-professed favourites.. your vacuum cleaner. I know it's a Dyson and that you love it. We have a fair bit of carpeting here.. can you tell me what model.. etc, please?

Think I am starting to enjoy my new abode, close to the little previously NYC family. Good to be minding a little grand-daughter, and seeing them often. Baby number three due in a couple of months.

Forgot to say, your book sounded very interesting Kate.I can see I am going to have to ask at the library. I wonder if they will have it here in Australia. Maybe I will need to start buying off Amazon.

A little behind the times reading this post. We had been traveling for a few days...Cypress TX to Durango CO. We bought ourselves a beautiful 5th wheel and are glamping north of Durango on the Animas River. So that's what we are up to for two months. I love the photos...always inspiring...and those products that you like. I'm always looking for a new perfume...might have to try your new favorite. Going to town today to buy hummingbird feeders, but we will have to bring them in a night for they are a favorite of the Colorado black bear and they sometimes visit the campground looking for delicacies for the taking!!! Hugs and prayers!
