The children of the doe

I happened to glance out the window yesterday afternoon and noticed a something moving in the middle of the yard.

It’s always a treat to see a fawn.

And as I came around the corner of the house with the camera, I saw that there was not only one.

Hello.

Where’s your mother?

I looked but could see no mother hovering nearby. I knew she had to be around, though. Well, I hoped she was, anyway.

Early this morning I saw them again, the children of the doe. Only this time she was there with them. They must feel safe up here on the hill.

DEER WISDOM

I love the way the doe knows how to go
through the tall brambles: She ambles
her hips first to one side,
then another; tosses her nose high
to sniff the trails of air; and
proffers only a passing glance to
the chickadee on his slanted
branch. She knows the way;
she knows the turn of a hoof print
here, to the right of the wild rose brier;
there, past the tip of the raspberry twig;
she knows the sun even before
his fine arced dome appears
on the eastern horizon, and
she goes that way,
into the still of the dew
into the hills of the morning
in through that path between the thorns
that is so hard for us to see.

Hope your weekend is a pleasant one.

Fantastic photos ! Lucky you , I haven't seen any deer here even though we have a forest that surrounds our valley and a river ! Thanks for sharing ! These made me smile ! Have a good weekend !

One of my does had triplets this year. The bucks' horns are still velvet covered but growing large. They come watch me at the pond each evening. Sadly, the hunters will shoot those bucks this fall.

Being up here in the Rockies, I've only seen three deer! How blessed are you that these three...mother and babies...visit you right where you are!!! Have a wonderfully blessed and peaceful weekend!

Oh, they are so beautiful. I see them around our parts as I drive to clients' homes in the country. Each time you see one it's like the first time again. Deb

Awesome captures! I saw a fawn with her mother the other day, but you'd need a magnifying glass to see it in the photo I took with my little pocket camera. Nevertheless, it was a thrill to see it, as you say.

What beautiful creatures! Our weather this week has been a gift, making it such a delight to be outside in it.

Know that we are here whenever you are, whenever that may be ... thinking of you and caring about how you and the rest of the family are doing.

Aren't fawns wonderful!? Those two look quite large...though it is hard to tell without the mother for reference...i would say they should be losing their spots soon. Lovely pics. Thanks so much! Hugs! deb

Don't they look nice and healthy---their mom is looking after them very well! My daddy brought a fawn home to me one night after he saw its mom get killed by another car. We bottle fed him and then it was really impossible to instill fear of humans in "Baby-Deer!" He'd already lost those spots when one day he didn't come up when I called. I'd love to think he survived hunting season...but I never saw him again. It's so hard to know what to do when a 'wild' baby needs feeding---how can it not come to think of us and our hand holding that bottle as its new mommy? I still have very fond memories of the time we raised "Baby-Deer!"

Oh my. How sweet. I guess it's better to have children of the doe instead of children of the corn!

You too Kate, although it seems to be over already! What beautiful fawns - I've never been quick enough with the camera when I've seen them here. They're gone in seconds.

That is a great picture of the fawns.....they are such a peaceful looking animal.... Complete serenity. It is a picture perfect day out here on the coast of Oregon,not a cloud......we have had a very dry summer, and need some rain. I am going down to Bandon in a few minutes to catch the last performance of GREASE. Thinking of you and your husband......Much love from Oregon .. Kay

I love watching the fawns that visit our hay fields while the does watch them from a distance. My husband found one little fawn while swathing hay this summer. He had to get out and move it. He placed it a few rows over and momma found it rather quickly and moved it.

The twins are lovely! Won't be long and those spots will disappear.

It's almost like time pauses a little whenever I catch a glimpse of a deer. Your photos captured that feeling for me. Something about the way they stand just seems so magical. xo
