Autumn bokeh

I am sitting here in my cozy house, my dog at my side, listening to the questions on Jeopardy when I suddenly realized that I hadn’t posted all week.

I didn’t want you to worry about me.

I am fine!

George and I are playing fetch with foxy, a gift from a blogging friend. Thanks, JC. It’s George’s favorite toy at the moment. It is a flat fox, which means it’s unstuffed except for the face. At the head and at the tail, there is a small squeak toy. He likes it when I talk to the fox and pretend to have a conversation with it.

I ask it if it’s ready to fly and it shakes its head yes.

This is a game George seems to love.

I took the macro lens out the other day and I went for a walk around the property with George. I was aiming to capture some autumnal bokeh with my lens.

And I did.

I laid on the ground.

And stood with a leaf in my hand.

The late-afternoon light was delicious.

And the old manor house was bathed in its glow.

So pretty.

I tried to get George to sit in this precise spot because the light and the colors behind him were so wonderful. But I couldn’t get him to look at me. So here he is looking intensely at who knows what (and he’s got that Border Collie stare going on).

Work has been keeping me busy and it’s actually helped me a lot. I thought it would be difficult being out in the world again after Andrew died last month. But it’s been so good and I’m so pleased that I forced myself. I know that grief is different for everyone. Going back to work after a single month is not the answer for some people. I am just saying that it was the answer for me.

My weekends are busy too and I’m actually missing just kicking back and hanging around, getting some chores done, taking a little drive somewhere. This coming weekend promises to be fun: A girls getaway arranged by my niece, Kim. So looking forward to it ~

Hope your week has been a good one. And oh, by the way,

Happy Halloween!

I have visited your blog all week and waiting for you to return.. George sounds like he is enjoying himself with his new toy.. My son had a dog like this and Izzy just loved to have a tennis ball thrown to her and she would bring it back.. She would do this as long as you threw the ball.. She was the same about getting her picture taken.. camera shy.. what is that all about.. Glad you are doing well and I just love love your pictures.. I collect leaves and I put the pretty ones in my journal.. along with my bird feathers..
Have a tiggeriffic day~! TA TA FOR NOW FROM IOWA~!

So happy to see you posting again. I look forward to see new posts from you. I can't get enough of your photos! Glad you're doing well. :)

Your photos are lovely, Kate. That George is so handsome. He makes me think of our dog, Kane, as a youngun'. He is 13 now so he doesn't play like he used to but back in the old days he would play fetch for hours. I could never throw the ball enough. Your Halloween photo made me laugh. Hugs, Deb.

It's good to hear that you and George are doing well.

Ruby gets that exact same expression on her face ... usually at a squirrel or groundhog outside the fence. So typically Border Collie.

Always so glad to see your posts and see that you are getting along as best you can. Sounds like work was a good thing, sometimes we need the daily grind to help us out, give us a routine, make things as normal as possible - it certainly doesn't mean that you grieve less, just that structure is good at times like this. Happy Halloween and Hugs!

Good to see you posting. I agree that working and staying busy will help the healing process. Especially when you really enjoy your job as you seem to.

Love the fall photos - you're so good - it always fascinates me that you can take a photo of some leaves laying on the ground and ... its beautiful. Love the sweet photo of George too. And the cat in the hat made me laugh.

Your photos are beautiful, just a wonderful take on all of the fall beauty that surrounds us. Your guy is much like mine, only ready to pose when the camera isn't in hand!

Happy Halloween and wishing you many more days of contentment and joy in your life.

XO,
Jane

I love that you are in touch with what you need for you and your process....

I also love seeing all your fall pics. George's eyes match the yellow leaves. What a good boy he is.

Happy Halloween :-)

I love bokeh...didn't know what it was until I started reading your blog! My Babe Girl has a toy just like the one that George has...she loves it albeit she is tearing it up. I am glad that your being back into the familiar atmosphere of work and friends has helped you in a positive way. I hope that you have a great time with the girls this weekend. Hugs! PS: It goes without saying that I always love your photos!

Always wonderful to stop in here and see what you are up to! Missing the fall and look forward, hopefully, to see you on our return! Hugs. Have fun at your getaway!

We, your loving readers, wait to hear from you, and, as I have always been a worrier, I worry about you whether you wish it or not! I'm so glad that work has been good for you, and that your weekends are busy, that you have girlfriends, and that you seem to be getting yourself in a routine that suits. It will be a long process, Kathleen---but I absolutely know you will find your way. xoxos

Cannot believe I forgot to say I how beautiful the pictures were! I'm clearly NOT thinking, as usual. The macro lens is quite something, isn't it! But, I loved the shot of the manor house--how stately it looks! And even though George was not quite cooperating, he's still a charmer, isn't he! Have a wonderful weekend, dear.

I've found that grieving is not a "straight line event". Meaning that it comes and goes....sometimes intense and other times, softly. I am so glad to hear from you and see you are still curious....and that George is still border, through and through......smiles!

Happy Halloween! Good to hear you (and George) are well. (And my dog stares at phantom creatures all the time -- at least they are phantom to me. Who knows what she is seeing.)

Everyone has to find a way to deal with their problems. I'm glad you are working yours out.

George....man oh man, what a wonderful creature.

Love that you went out for a walk with George and took photos of leaves. Our leaves are everywhere and Jodie and Maddy have been having a great time playing in them.

Good to hear that George likes the fox.

Hi Kate, I am so glad to hear that you are doing well. I love your autumn photos. Don't you just love autumn leaves? They are so beautiful. I love the photo of George looking away from the lens. It is perfect. Have fun with your friends. Have a great weekend. I am bathing in the glory of the Boston Red Sox today. Go Sox!!

Beautiful photos, as always! That is one intense stare George has on his face! Good to hear that being back at work is helping. Enjoy the girls' getaway!

It looks like you're enjoying a lovely autumn. We've had snow for over a week now. *sigh*

It's frustrating, yet oddly endearing when our animals get camera shy. Or is it stubborn and uncooperative? Either way, you gotta admire their independence.

Blessings,
Carolynn

I love bokeh, especially with such gorgeous autumn colors. Your photos are stunning as always.

I'm happy to hear you're doing well and going at your own pace. Always do what you feel is right, and it will be. xo

You certainly were able to get some beautiful fall shots on your walk...

I too am glad that you are doing what's right for you as you work through your grief....It is different for everyone....

Your furry friend is beautiful even if he wouldn't sit where you wanted him to....They can be so independent sometimes....

Your way of coping sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I think I would be exactly the same. I have a tendency to wallow otherwise. Have a great time away Kate. x

I'm so glad you're finding your way along this path. I'm sure it's different for everyone, which probably makes it even tougher. I hope you have a beautiful time this weekend. I've been busy and out of touch of my blog friends, but I've thought of you often and am sending a big hug!

Just checked in for the first time today, and you've pulled me in with your beautiful pictures, choice of music, sweet George, and your story. I am definitely going to be a frequent visitor.

I've been keeping a closer eye on the blog this week as well. I wasn't worried...much. It makes sense to me that some kind of normal routine would help. You're right though; everybody works through grief in their own way. You get to make the rules. Know that you're in my heart and prayers each day. Give George a hug :)

Debby said...

I laughed at your previous post, that your friend checked in on you to make sure that you hadn't had any unfortunate encounters with axe murderers. I laughed again to see the look on George's face as he stared off at who-knows-what. Does it ever strike you that if you were to encounter an axe murderer, he'd probably have a stare much like George's? Thank goodness the dog lacks opposible thumbs!

a lovely calm atmosphere in your post today....or was it yesterday....I just read it now. I am so glad you are finding this gentle way through, working as you say can be such an anchor and it must be good to be doing what you love.
Love the photo of George....at least he sat with his mouth closed! Bonnie always sticks her tongue out in that panting pose for photos...well not always....but often enough for me to miss some lovely scenes.
Hope you have a good weekend with friends...getaways are so good for the spirit

love Kate

So glad to hear you are doing well and enjoying your work! I'm currently on disability- don't know if it will be permanent yet or not--I have always enjoyed my solitude, but some days are a bit lonely. I'll have to figure something out to stay busy if I don't go back to work!
