Thanks for the memories

Please bear with me, dear readers, because this is yet another post about my recent visit to Mathews, VA where I attended Blog Fest. However, it didn’t start out that way. I was going to post something else entirely today but after a phone call gone bad with my youngest son, I felt a bit peeved. I went outside to tend my petunias, but soon found that if I didn’t calm down, I was going to inflict some damage on the fragile petals.

I tried to force myself to relax and clear my mind, but this is easier said than done. And then I came inside and looked at photos I’d taken last weekend and immediately I began to feel better.

Here, I’ll show you why.

How cute is she? This is Meg, a fellow Marylander.

I took all these photos on our first morning of activity. On the schedule was a trip to New Point to see the lighthouse, Bethel Beach to see the shoreline, and an old tabernacle that we all found really interesting.

The irrepressible Daryl, from NYC. My father would say that she’s a tall drink of water.

He had a lot of expressions like that and when I first opened my photo files when I came home and saw that one, it popped into my mind.

Angie from VA, Shelley from Vancouver and Diane from Seattle are learning the proper way to wave like a Baroness. Shelley demonstrates.

Lauren from CT.

Fun fun fun fun fun!

Meg from Maine is on the left and Annie, also from CT on the right. Annie can identify birds just by hearing their sounds. And there’s a beautiful photo of Meg [here] on my photoblog.

I feel so much better now.

My husband would have a field day with this photograph because it’s of everyone’s back. [Here’s what he thinks] of my photography when I shoot photos like this.

I like the perspective, however, and will continue to do whatever I want to do. He says I do that all the time, too.

Shelley, Grandma J and Angie above. Grandma J’s name is Janice and she arrived from Texas.

*** Sigh ***

I love landscapes. I wish I could have bottled the scent, too.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Kate. What a great weekend you had. And the photos are something else as well! Sorry to hear that things weren't going swimmingly when you wrote this post (with your son). I do hope that you are ok and things are sorted out quickly!

Why is it that our children still push our buttons even as adults? Relax. Rub George's tummy. Wine. Lots of it.

Love your photos...of course, that is always a given.

It does have the ability to "make the world go away"....

Sending you the biggest hug ever...just picture yourself floating in the water without a raft with your feet crossed and your arms behind your head...I can only smile when I remember that vision.

Oh those phone calls with kids, gone bad. They can throw you. But for the sake of your blood pressure, I'm glad you came back in and relived some fun, with the pics.

On the kids-thing, Hon...

One of the times we went to England to visit the family there, we went to Stonehenge. My daughters at that time were 16,23, and 29......the three of them were standing there side by side, their long hair blowing slightly in the breeze....so different, and yet so much alike. I took a picture of them from behind...and it was an awesome photo. You have made me want to find it now.

Thanks, all. And it will all work out with my son. I just have to keep remembering that he will never listen. Sometimes I don't know why I even bother to talk but then I realize it's because I love the little sucker.

Most of my pictures are of the backs of people. I can't get over the connections we all made with each other. I feel like I left family back in VA.

Next year it will be like a seamless continuation.

Hope your boy gets on a better path...

That walk you are on reminds me of a nature preserve n mendocino. It's beautiful and so is everyone else!

We have a similar expression here, Kate, for tall, thin people - we say they are like a yard of pump water.

Your pictures are really incredible, esp. the one of the marsh.

Are you available to come back to give me some photography lessons? How does next weekend sound?

We need to plan a fall gathering. No way can I wait until 2010.

gorgeous pictures, all of the ones you've taken are fabulous.

Boys! We love them, and yet sometimes we just don't like them for a moment or two. Hope that situation resolves itself.

I so wish I had been able to go to Blogfest. It looks like you all had so much fun. Having met Lauren and Ann, I'm sure that it was a blast.

Feel better - spare the petunias!

aw, we all have conversations gone south with our sons.

And nope. We can't always get what we want. But we often do get what we need.

:-) thanks

I saw Meg used that photo as her profile pic on Facebook. I love it.
I always take photos from the back, partly because I don't show my kids faces on the internet and partly because I like the feel of them.

So wonderful, Miss Kate. Stealing a few for my own files; won't use them anywhere but my own deep breathing exercises -- is that okay?

More to read! Must keep moving! : )
