New York City at Christmastime

Hello, my friends. I’m home from my whirlwind trip to the Big City.

Ok. It really wasn’t a whirlwind trip -- I’ve just always wanted to say that.

I left early Tuesday with my friend, Margie, the art teacher at our school. We were going to NYC to stay with my son for a couple of days and see the holiday sights. And wow – we had such a wonderful time.

We met my blogging pal, Daryl, for dinner at Hatsuhana, one of the best sushi restaurants in the city. Before we met her, we strolled 5th Avenue to take in the sights.

The Saks Fifth Ave 3D projection was static when we passed by, but if we had waited just a bit, we would have been treated to the scene below. Check it out.

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks
dressed in holiday style.
In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas.

I’ve never seen the tree at Rockefeller Center in real life. It’s huge!

With the tree behind me, I’m looking toward 5th Ave. and the light display at Saks. We went inside but they were closing, so we kept walking and came to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which I’d never seen before. Oh, my gosh.

Hi, Daryl!

I had a wonderful time and I don’t even care how much my feet are hurting from all the walking. I wish I could go every year at Christmas.

I took this last one at Barney’s looking into a fish tank display that was built into a wall. That’s my son in the background and my gargantuan hand in the foreground that I believe may be distorted from the angle of the tank. My hand isn’t that big! It does remind me of an old Seinfeld episode, however . . .

Have a wonderful day, all. Thanks for coming by. And thank you for not making fun of my giant hand.

New York at Christmas - my idea of heaven... who knows? One day? Is it far from where you are Kate?

I am quite sensitive about my hands - unfortunately I take after my father in the hands-and-feet department. Not dainty.

The first and most memorable time I visited NYC was during the holidays...we arrived Thanksgiving night in time for the Macy's parade in 5-6 inches of snow the next day. The city is absolutely breathtaking "all dressed up" for Christmas :):)

Your pics are wonderful! We just went last weekend, and got mostly daytime shots, not the same at all! :) The tree is a sight though. Happy Christmas Kate!

Wow that display at Saks is really something! I'm glad you had such a wonderful time! And that is a lovely shade of nail polish you have on your man hands! ;)

Merry Christmas!

Love the photos, Kate. The tree looks terrific. Homesick for NYC and my little family. Though it is only a couple of weeks since I saw them out here for their beach holiday.

Don't think your hand looks big at all.

Glad you were able to get away and enjoy the city. I have been lucky to be there twice at Christmas. Maybe back there in April, God-willing.

Hope you and your hubby have a great Christmas Kate.

I love the tree, so glad you got to see it. About five years ago the tree for Rockefeller actually came from our neighbor about a 1/4 mile from here! I was heartbroken to think they would cut that tree down, it was in their front yard!!....

Absolutely amazing! How is the world did they do that?? I am thinking how would they do that the old fashioned way, I am hopeless, I always forget about computers.

Such sights, such an amazing adventure and what a wonderful gift...time with a friend and your son.

You have NOT seen my hands, that's for sure. And I posted once, about the guy that said I had ugly hands...boo hoo. But what did he know, he was in jail. HA!
The Christmas tree....the HUGE TREE.......would have been worth it for me, wow, that is awesome.
Glad you had a good time.

Oh nice shots .. my Saks shot turned out identical to yours! And my tree shot with the skaters? Had to crop it to get rid of those GLARING spot lights that help illuminate the halogen lights on the tree .. they use halogen lights because they take less power and shine brighter. I look like a giant grape .. xo

The walk down Fifth Avenue brought back lovely memories - we were there two years ago but not at Christmas - how pretty it all is.
Have a wonderful Christmas and here's wishing you both very good health in 2011.

BEautiful - what a nice time you must have had. It's always nice to get away and do something different. The city looks incredible.

Love the Man Hands (the Seinfeld episode, not your hands, which are definitely not man hands).
