Oh, no! Not more bird photos ~

In my imagination, this is what many of you may be thinking. And to you I say, “Yes, Virginia. There are more bird photos.”

Yesterday I probably looked like a nut, sitting outside in the cold and the snow, in a wonderfully sunny spot sipping some tea and reading a book. I had a jacket and my hat on and was wrapped in my new red throw blanket, another win from the Dirty Santa game we played on Christmas night.

I had the camera outside with me, just in case.

Although I was saddened to have our travel plans thwarted by the weather, it’s really nice enjoying the time off from work this week. And spending it in the sunshine underneath the bare branches of a dogwood tree is rather pleasant, if you ask me.

I love hearing the flitter and chitter of the little birds at our feeders.

The chickadees are so tiny.

I’m fairly certain this is a female downy woodpecker. You can’t see it, but her beak is quite short. If it had been longer, I would have said she was a hairy. And there is a huge white strip running down her back.

This is a tufted titmouse. They often flock with chickadees, nuthatches and woodpeckers and they are regular visitors to our feeders where they act like the bosses of the smaller birds.

Today, I’m doing some (badly needed) cleaning, hanging out some laundry and plan to once again sit outside in the sunshine. I may go see a movie tomorrow with a friend. Anybody seen anything good this holiday season that you can recommend?

Have a wonderful day, all. And once again, congratulations to the winners of my cardinal giveaway contest!

Love,

I really enjoy your bird pictures. We don't have trees so no many birds. And I lack the patience so sit and watch let alone wait for the shot. Thank you for sharing!

I absolutely LOVE your pictures!
I wish I lived in a place like yours, instead of living in a small Italian town, in a 4th level apartment... All this to say that I really enjoy looking at your pics, thanks for sharing them!

First of all, I never get sick of bird photos. And yours especially. They are divine! Plus you have interesting birds.

I find that I get the most comments on my blog whenever I post bird photos.

So fear not. Keep 'em coming!

I love your bird photos. Keep 'em comin'. That little titmouse looks like he's standing in a stiff breeze. *smile*

OMG...best movie I've seen in a long time: 127 Hours. Google it on youtube if you want to see the trailer for it. Outstanding movie. There was only one very short part where I had to avert my eyes and I felt a wee bit queasy, but it was over soon.

The Frenchman and I are also keen to see True Grit. The review have been great for it and we're both western movie fans.

Let us know what you went to see.

Never too many birdie photos! I love bird-watching and seem to have about the same types of birds as you...Now that I have my 50mm lens I find that I am yearning for a 70-300mm lens...it never ends does it:)

I am hoping to see True Grit and/or The Kings Speech...they both sound good to me...

Sometimes a change in plans is really a little blessing in disguise! Your bird photos are beautiful, I love the textures!

My daughter saw the Black Swan, and although she said it was dark and a bit creepy, she said it was very good!

I love your bird shots -- keep them coming! You are so patient -- I can never wait that long to get a good shot, and besides, I don't have that nice long 300 lens.

As for movies -- my husband and my son really loved True Grit. I didn't see it yet -- it was a guy day. :)

You know the birds steal my heart! Wonderful captures my friend!

We decided we would go ahead with our travel plans and traveled to the Blizzard City - Ocean City, MD. We had 4WD so it wasn't too bad.

True Grit. I loved the first one and was not happy about this movie. I changed my mind and it's wonderful and can stand on it's own. I'd see it again in a heart beat. Also, suggestion, when I say Titmouse, I always add, pardon my French. lol..really I do, as we are birders too. We have flocks of tiny Wren-tits too, same applies. Love your pix Kate!

I never get tired of your bird photos! I never manage to make it to the theater, but I recently watched Inception on DVD and it was really good. And I hear True Grit is excellent.

I absolutely love your photos! I want to see True Grit, but my husband says no one can remake a John Wayne movie decently. I think I'll go one day soon and see for myself:) Whatever you decide to do, enjoy yourself!

I never tire of looking at God's beautiful creatures, but what caught my eye was that ingenious hook/latch that holds the bird feeder... I've never thought of using something like that. How simple! I must tell my husband, who is in charge of the bird feeders.

Joy,
It's a brass double-end snap. We have several of them and they come in handy for all sorts of things. My husband used them in his former line of work, on the horse farms.

Hi Kate, I love, love, love the bird photos. I enjoy them so much and you have such a large variety of birds at your feeder. I live in a condo, so sadly, I do not get to see our little friends up close. Thanks.
