Photo – a present to yourself. Sift through all the photos of you
from the past year. Choose one that best captures you; either who you are,
or who you strive to be. Find the shot of you that is worth a thousand words.
Share the image, who shot it, where, and what it best reveals about you.
I have never participated in reverb10 before, but a couple of bloggers that I visit do, and I was intrigued by this particular exercise.
As much as I enjoy being behind the lens, my dislike for being in front of it is profound. I am not what I would consider ‘photogenic’. And please don’t tell me I am, because this fact has been documented my entire life. However, I do believe this photo captures the real me. It was taken earlier this month, by my co-worker Rich, who makes me laugh every single day.
I had just finished taking photos of the entire 7th grade class, plus all of the Lower School children who were selected for the Spotlight boards in December. I’ve been using my Nikon D80 for the job because I dislike the school’s point & shoot. Rich has the good printer in his office, so I took my camera over to him. He was in the market for a new camera and was asking a lot of questions about mine. I showed him a few things and watched as he tried a couple of shots. I was leaning over the chair and pointing out some of the features, when he raised it and got me. I didn’t know he was going to do that.
I’m usually always smiling at work. And I hid myself behind some texture. Because, well ~ I like to hide.
Respectfully submitted,

Lovely. And sneaky of you to "hide". :)
Ok Kate, I won't tell you that you are photogenic..but what I will tell you, is even behind the smokey texture of the photo, you have a smile that shines like a bright winter sun...I think often that people are beautiful from the inside out..and when the inside is beautiful it radiates on the outside, whether we are "model" beautiful or not..there is definitely a beauty that shines through from a good heart! ;-)
OK, enough mushy stuff...cool that you take the photos of the kids at school, I'll bet they are wonderful and isn't it fun taking photos of children?? ;-)
Oh, Kate - big exclamation on what Amy said :)
I love to see the self-portraits of those who take such beautiful pictures and share their thoughts with the world :)
What a perfect picture.
Thanks for the link - that's an interesting site with lots of thought provoking assignments.
I LOVE it!
You know, I think your friend, Rich, has the makings of a very good portrait photographer. :)
Well he did get a very good reflection of you, did he not?
ATB!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! And dear Kate, you are beautiful...inside and out! Hugs!
The "classically photogenic" are boring to shoot....takes real people to make a photographer's life interesting....the most famous photogs shot people of expressiveness...not plastic faces....
Love the shot.....smiles.
i love love love to see you....texture and all :)
i didn't do this prompt because A. i've been a bad reverb10 participant and B. i just put photos of myself up a few posts back from our help portrait day and i didn't anyone thinking...."there she is again...sheesh, we know what you look like already"
thanks for sharing YOU with US !!!
xo
ps...i hear a storm is a brewing and heading your way....stay warm !
Merry Christmas, Kate! Enjoy the snow coming your way...we had a white Christmas for the first time since 1882!
It looks like a Polaroid!!
i know this feeling very well. very very well. hello kate - happy sunday - hope you're staying safe and warm.
weather you like it or not beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I see you as beautiful and I hate that you tried to hide the fun and mischief behind a cloud... its a charming picture and you can see the mischief in your eyes and expression...
so there... I said so... :)
Love n hugs.
...Ditto on what Amy said up there - perfectly spoken. :o)
...Lovely photo! My best photos are always a side view or when I am caught off guard. If I have to sit & pose - fuggetaboutit... And I liked how you tried to "hide" in the photo - too funny! I may borrow that idea...lol ;o)
...Here's hoping you & your family had a merry & joyous Christmas! You, CBW, Lauren, TSAnnie & Daryl all crossed my mind yesterday. :o)
...Blessings... :o)
then i went back and read the comments before mine lol SEEE I am not the only one who thinks this way... :)
Oh shut up. xo
Kate, I completely understand...we are our worst critics. But, that is a great picture & I'm sure it was without "texture"!!!! It is natural & you are beautiful.
I would hide behind the texture too - if I knew how to do that stuff yet in my PS program! ;) I don't care what you say, I think it is a great picture of you!
What a sneaky co-worker you have! Love the photo...it's good to see you:)
I know, I always feel the same way about myself. But your beauty, your light, shine right through in that photo.
I think we never see what others see when we look at photos of ourselves.
My brother bought my parents a digital frame and he said "I can only find a couple of pictures of you to load onto it." Because I always hide from the camera.
It is nice to see your smile.
I miss that cheery smile greeting me daily! Hugs and smiles to you!
What Amy Said!!!!
And it was so not necessary to drape the texture over yourself.
Really.
I love your smile.....it is very sweet, and I love your wild and curly hair!!!
Nice picture....and while I share your feelings about being IN the photo instead of taking it, I am glad you shared this one with us.
:)
How nice to see your smiling face! I know how you feel about being in front of the camera -- I absolutely HATE it! But this is such a lovely image, because it shows the spark within...
What a lovely place you must work, to be caught off guard with such a smile on your face!
Hey where's my windex! You are so sneaky to hide like that, but I can tell your eyes are full of mischief! That's a really nice shot Kate, your co-worker did good! xo ~Lili
I already liked the ~hidden~ you, but I must say, I REALLY LIKE the *real* you
;>} Keep smilin' CG, sure does suit ya.
I seriously love this photo... And the "real" you rocks!!! Wishing you a wonderful New Year!!! xoxo
Who was it who said that a picture is worth a thousand words? That 'veil' over it is worth another thousand too. I loved it and am so pleased you posted it Kate - I feel I know you a little better.
what everyone said...
and you are always smiling at work? that speaks volumes.
I've tried to be less critical of myself lately to set a better example for my kids... but I really never like myself in shots that often either.
You have one of the most contagious smiles I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, my dear friend.
GREAT picture, Kate! What a sweet smile you have... a perfect profile picture!
BTW, it's so cute, no need for the veil!
That is a very good picture of you.
I'm with you there....like to take more than have myself taken in them.
"There is nothing as beautiful as a dear and familiar face"
I don't know the origin of the quote but it fits you. Great photo!
