I saw him out there with the camera and hoped he was getting some good shots.
Because it sure was a beautiful sunset.
Geese heading south for the winter fly over us.
See how high up they’re flying?
In the early spring, when they head north to their summer breeding grounds, they fly over our house much lower. They fly so low that we can hear their wings against the air.
But heading south for the winter, they fly so high you can hardly see ‘em.
I changed quickly and was on the little trail as my husband was taking these photos. There was just enough light to go around the property (about 20 acres) twice.
And the light was really beautiful.
I think this last one is my favorite. Taken while standing directly in front of the house and looking west, I like the composition and his use of the rule of thirds.
I think bare tree branches are extremely photogenic.
And that’s all I have to say about that.

Just had a catch-up read of your posts and saw you enjoyed the rooibos tea.
I grew up on rooibos tea in South Africa and so did my son. He was colicky and this was a great 'tonic' for him as it has overall health benefits and is of course caffeine free. There's also a facial range as well. In fact, I have Rooibos and Aloe Vera cleanser which is great.
Anyhow, thought I'd share something from my home country!

I wonder why they fly at different heights according to which way they are going? Here they go overhead quite low both in Spring and Autumn - I love hearing the wingbeats and the occasional 'honk'.

and those geese might just have landed here on the lake. I watched a gaggle come in and I told the husband there were about fifty or seventy that landed and the splash down was fantastic. I didn't have the camera out and could kick myself....if it wasn't them, let's just pretend it was!!!

The sky was beautiful and I agree with you. I like the last one the most too.
I always learn something here. Never heard of the rule of 3! Also, I wonder why they fly at different heights? Could it be the temperature? The air currents? (I hear you laughing at my ignorance, and it's OK. I'm snickering too.)

Seeing the geese reminds me of my favorite James Michenor book - Chesapeake. He used geese as a cover and the story takes place in DelMarVa (hope I got that right).

Interesting about those geese flying high versus low during certain seasons/migrations. I didn't know that and I always like to learn a new thing about nature. :-) I was out on my land in Kansas a couple weeks ago and saw all these white birds flying really high in the sky. I couldn't figure out what they were at first because they weren't flying in a V formation and I couldn't hear any honking but it turned out that my suspicion was right.... they were snow geese passing through Kansas. Lots of them. Lots. I think they must have the hardest migration of any bird on earth. I had to stop my car and get out and just watch. :-)
