Webcams, cold weather and cool video

I loved reading about the weather in everyone’s neck of the woods (from yesterday’s post). It made me feel more connected to all of the different places where everyone lives.

Most of us are experiencing really cold weather, but in Australia where my friends Bush Babe and Annie live, it’s full on summer.

My husband visits several webcams around the country and his favorite is the one in Bar Harbor, Maine. It’s at one of the busiest intersections, looking towards Geddy’s Restaurant and the parking lot at the harbor.

He also visits the one at Ocracoke, off the coast of North Carolina. It’s a familiar place to us and interesting to see in the different seasons.

Are there any webcams that you visit?

It’s very cold here in Maryland. My fingers feel frozen as I sit under my throw blanket, semi-watching Survivor tonight.

I’m working on making myself a CD of some of my favorite Christmas tunes to play in the car. And I think I’ll add this one to it. It’s by Fleet Foxes and the video is pretty unique. Hope you like.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Until tomorrow, then . . .

Love the music! That's a claymation video so I'm sure it took a LONG time to make it. Oh, and to think that there's a little man that turns a wheel to keep the stars and the moon turning in the sky is a hoot.

Hmmm, nope, no webcams that I watch, but I do have a link to one on another blog that I do for my hometown in Iowa.

I occasionally look at the Martha's Vineyard webcams...something about that island - minus the crazy tourists and too-wealthy people - calls to me like a second home.

My webcam fixations have historically involved owls and puppies. They are all grown now. So I am getting some stuff done;)

Although I don't visit often enough, Annie's photos of her part of the globe are always spectacular.

We vacation in South Daytona Beach a lot. So, my husband views a webcam that shows the beach almost daily!!

The claymation in the video is very well done. Definitely a unique idea.

I lived in France for a couple of years and often find myself on the following webcams:

Beautiful song, and creative video. Sad how soon we age, isn't it?!

Love your house finches - especially the red in the background glow. :)

Hi Kate. lovely to have you visit, and enjoy some of my summer posts. And to post it on your blog. Wondered why I had a few more comments than usual!

Someone did say that the bird might have been an osprey. I am not too good on all the names of birds, and because i am in the city (sort of usually, I don't normally see those ones.

Actually despite it being summer, and a few sunny days, our last few months have been delightfully cooler than previous years. And floods down the eastern coast are getting back to our olden days of weather patterns. Wondering if my son and family will be able to travel safely back to Melbourne when it is time for them to go for Christmas.

Hope it won't be too cold for you All the time. The little NY family here are not really looking fwd to being back in the snow next week!!

Loving your birds, and posts as usual. The tea sounds interesting!

I check in to a webcam daily where my husband is currently working -- it shows his worksite progress. Pretty cool!

Your photo reminded me I need to refill my feeders today. Lovely pictures!

No webcams anywhere around here that I am aware off... I'm the closest thing the locals have for constant surveillance!

Do you want to know how warm it is here? Sitting here with doors wide open in t-shirt and jeans at 10pm and feeling warm. Stink bugs beginning to swarm in... time for bed and air-conditioning methinks!

I used to visit the web cam at my daughter's university to see if I could catch her walking to class. I used to tell her to wave when she went by...I never did see her, but I think she did wave!

Love the bird photos and that video and song are both keepers...loved it!

the only web cam I ever watched was the eagles hatching in the west, somewhere. that was intense....but don't have any to watch now. the ones on the outer banks don't always work, so I don't bother any more.
that video is interesting and the song haunting.....but what the heck is it about? :) :) :)

I have some British Virgin Island webcams that I love to occaisionally take a peek at to see just what I am missing:)http://www.bvipirate.com/BVIWebcams.html
When we were sailing in the Leeward Islands last year a friend took a screen picture of the webcam at a harbour we were staying in one day...it was fun to later try and figure out which boat was ours....

Just realized the Bar Harbor webcam isn't live, but I see they update it about every 1/2 hour during the day. Wonder what the odds are if I stood there on the half hour and waved! HA I used to watch one of a local ski resort to see how crowded it was before we went. Also the eaglecam here on the coast, http://www.briloon.org/watching-wildlife/eagle-cam.php
but no mating eagles right now. Stay warm and cozy! xo ~Lili

I'd never heard of Fleet Foxes until I read and listened to your post. I've now downloaded White Winter Hymnal from iTunes to my iPod - love it!
