My favorite show on TV

I don’t know how many of you watch television, but imagine it’s probably a fair amount. I don’t watch an inordinate amount of TV, but over the years one single show has consistently remained the top on my list of what to watch.

The 7th and final season of Rescue Me begins Wednesday, July 13 on the FX channel at 10 PM and I have no idea what I’m going to do when this show goes off the air. I love it.

The show, which aired in July of 2004, focuses on the professional and personal lives of a group of firefighters in NYC who are dealing with the aftermath of the September 11 tragedy. Denis Leary, co-creator of the show, stars as veteran firefighter Tommy Gavin, who has lost his cousin in the Twin Towers and who frequently visits Tommy in visions. Tommy is completely flawed, as are many of the other characters, but they give their all when it comes to their jobs. The final episode airs on September 7.

The show is intense, gritty, yet incredibly funny at times, and I’ve come to love these characters over the years.

And, apparently, one of them has come to love me. Yep, that’s Daniel Sunjata, who plays Franco Rivera on the show. The photo on the right was taken by my friend, Daryl, in her NYC apartment last March (Daniel was there because he’s a client of her husband’s).

When he heard what a huge fan I was, he wrote this sign.

Ok. I’ll stop now.

No, on second thought, I won’t. At the risk of losing followers, I’m going to admit that this is one of the reasons I like this show. It’s because it’s real. And it’s because Steve Pasquale (the guy who plays firefighter Sean Garrity) cracks me up.

Please forgive me the raunchiness. If my husband knew that I found this stuff hilarious, he would die. So unladylike of me (gasp). And Godfrey, if you’re reading, please don’t tell Anna. Thank you.

Wow, I've never even heard of this show and, being pretty raunchy myself, I'm wishing I had. Those are both hysterical, especially the second one. So, I know what I'm doing tonight.

i've watched every season too. one character i WON'T miss is tommy's wife/ex-wife/wife-again whatever. bitch bitch bitch. takes no responsibility for her own actions. oh, and his eldest daughter too. spoiled rotten little sh**...

okay, now that i've gotten that out of my system...

Candace, it's on tomorrow night (Wednesday).

Don't even get me started on Tommy's ex. Super Bitch. Their daughter is only a product of her environment, so I have a little pity for her.

Sheila, on the other hand, is absolutely brilliant. Adore her in all her flawed glory.

Me too, me too! I have been counting down the weeks until this Wednesday, and I am so sad that it is the last season. Dennis Leary just kills me!

So noiw I have to ask, did you ever watch Six Feet Under? That was my favorite show of all time before Rescue Me came along.

I loved Six Feet Under!

We watch Rescue Me EVERY night on Netflix... I think we are in season 4? now... not sure, but it's a laugh a minute as none of these people have scruples or good decision making skills. Just love the show!

Even though I've lost touch with Rescue Me a bit, I remain a big fan and plan to catch up on Netflix.

I've been a huge fan of Denis Leary's since way back when he did a show on MTV called Afterdrive. He's brilliant.

Nothing to hide, Kate, it's an awesome show!

oops, it was Comedy Central, not MTV.

i felt that way about Providence: when it went off the air. My husband would catch me singing the opening song and laugh his head off. But it wasn't raunchy. But I never did let my husband know that I loved Will and Grace :)

okay... now I've got to figure out a way to make those clips play....

We don't watch that show.

End up watching cooking shows the most.... No wonder I stay on a diet.

We love that show too! We started watching on Netflix, we caught up to Season 5. They don't have season 6 yet. So I'm not sure what to do. Do I just jump right into Season 7? Or do I wait until I can see Season 6?

Any why doesn't Netflix have season 6??!

I don't watch much tv, in fact, I haven't had a tv for about a month now and don't miss it. Movies, I like. I haven't watched the clip yet, so you're secret is still safe with me.

That is one gorgeous guy. Hmmmm....how sweet that he wrote you a love letter.

I love this too, got all the previous seasons from the library on DVD. And I got to say the way the guys think about women and sex is pretty much the real way men are but most are too polite to say so. My brother was in the navy for years and I have cousins who are cops, they all like this show too because they say thats the way working guys are with each other. Just with less booze when you have to drive and shoot things! Ill be sorry to see it end too. The best shows are on cable channels, not the regular networks. Enjoy without guilt!

Major fan of Rescue Me. Excited and sad all at the same time that it's the last season. I agree with a previous commenter...Enjoy without guilt! It's a great show!
