I am so excited. And no, it’s not because all of the photos on my EHD have been recovered. I still haven’t heard from the computer specialist who is working on it. I am excited because I came home today to find a new camera waiting for me.
It’s a belated birthday present from my husband.
I am now the proud owner of a Nikon D7000 which is a definite step up from my the trusty D80 I’ve been using for the past four years. I’ve charged the battery and am following the digi-tutorials and reading the manual and hopefully, in about a year or so, I’ll have it figured out.
Ha ~
This is the first photo I took using the new camera. It came as a ‘body only’ because all of the lenses I have will fit it. I took this using my 50mm 1.8 and this is straight out of camera (or SOOC).
The colors are spot on. The light was low and this was taken in Portrait mode on the auto dial, for heaven’s sake. The dial is quite different than that of the D80, so this is going to take some getting used to.
I am happy. And to think that the only thing I had planned for tomorrow was cleaning out the refrigerator . . .
So happy!!

That is so exciting!!! You will have a field day tomorrow! Can't wait to see more beautiful photographs!
WELCOME to the D7000 club. It was pretty much love at first click for me - so familiar being a Nikon and yet sooooooooo powerful and GREAT in low light. FUN!!!
Well done hubs... happy wife, happy life!

Lucky you! You DH must think you are something VERY special. Life is good.
Congratulations on your new acquisition! The photo of George is dreamy. We always say that if you look at a sleeping dog for too long, you'll need to head of for a nap yourself!
Best Wishes,
Donna
I knew your weekend would improve!! :) I am SO jealous! I have the D90 and LOVE it. enjoy playing this weekend!
Oh congrats!! That camera is the bomb - you are now the third person in two days I have read about receiving one.
I can't wait to see your future captures.

How exciting! And oh, how I have missed you...dipped my toes back into the blogging sea today after a month hiatus. It is good to be back.
Happy belated birthday. That pic of George is too cute!
So cool! I can't wait to see the beautiful new images you will be taking with your new baby...YAY!
Kat :)
Very cool! I've had my first DSLR for over 2 years and still haven't learned all the bells and whistles but I do carry the manual around in my camera bag and sometimes even remember it's there when I forget how to do something. To make matters worse, I bought a second DSLR (a newer, more advanced model) and had to make room in the bag for the manual for it......in the bottom of the bag, right next to the other one!
congrats ... so awesome and glad you are part of the D7000 club .. we should have a retreat!
And who better to break in the first shot but with George! Awesome photo!
Yay! What a nice surprise!!! And I love your 1st photo with the new camera!
Yah! So excited for you! I just got the Nikon D7000 two weeks ago and LOVE it (upgraded from a D40x). I have sooooo much to learn but I jumped right in and started snapping. I look forward to your photos with your new camera!
I cannot say I am unhappy to have started catching up with your posts by reading the newest first for I have managed to skip all the heartbreak for a friend losing precious photos and get right to the joy of a spanking new fantastic camera! What a difference a few days makes!
Also great news re the MRI:)
xoxo
Your husband has good taste ;)
I got my D7000 in May & practically every time I use it, I say out loud, "I love this camera!" It's light weight, quick & EASY to learn! It fits perfectly in my hands - I think folks with large hands would struggle with it. I say it's a ladies camera.
When it's on a tripod, I use live view & manual focus to zoom in. Talk about detail!!
I love the D7000/50mm 1.8 combo, but the 35mm 1.8 actually stays on the camera most of the time. It's actually a 52mm when you take the 1.5 crop factor into account. http://tinyurl.com/dcokgh
You're going to have a great weekend! Give hubs a hug ;)
So happy for you. Can't wait to see more photos.
you are going to have SO much fun.....does your old camera now officially belong to your hubby ?
ps.....yuck, cleaning out the fridge. i'm so glad you had something that interrupted that !!
xoxo
I love the paw almost in the mouth and the lovely facial expression!
Congrats on your new camera and Happy Birthday!! Have fun playing with it this weekend!
YAY FOR YOU~~~~~..... now lets see what you do with that bad boy.
Nice! Congrats!
wooootttttttt so thrilled for you!!!! am loving my d 70 and still learning how to use it LOL.
What an amazing gift! I am a novice photographer, so I don't have much of an idea just what all the terms mean. My camera is a very simple, inexpensive one, quite basic, and thus far is working out fine on my own blog, which I just began on Thursday - berriesandmore.blogspot.com - if you catch some time away from your own camera.:-)
Fantastic pic.
Good luck with the new camera.
I am so happy for you!!!!
Happy Birthday!!!!
YA-HOO!!! What a wonderful surprise, Kate! This is just what you needed, and also what you so richly deserve. I'm so happy for you. Keep them photos coming! xo
What a great birthday gift. I have a feeling you can put it to good use in New York City at the end of this month...
Happy belated birthday!
SHAZAM!!! Your hubby totally rocks.
Congratulations. (hi George)
That man deserves a medal! Have fun with the camera and let us know if you ever get to the end of the instruction manual!!
Playing with a new camera is so much better than cleaning out the fridge!
Yay for you! That's so exciting and so sweet of your hubby!
Great photo. What lovely colors. Cute subject too!
WOW! My little Canon Rebel is feeling kinda left out! Happy Belated Birthday, my sweet friend!
And hope you have an awesome Sunday and week ahead! (In case it won't let me post AGAIN...it's Jeanne!
Enjoy!
Just in time for the holidays!
Great photo with the new camera... now all you have to do is recover the data from the hard drive. Technology eh? Great when it works, not so great when it doesn't it.

Oh boy, I can only imagine what gorgeous images we're going to see from you, now. Happy Belated Birthday!
I'm so excited for you. I dream of owning a D7000 all the time.
Lucky you..and what fun! I'm sure you'll love it! And - what a sweet image of your sweet pup!
Congratulations!! I know you were being "funny" when you said in a year you would have it figured out, but for me that would be close to the truth! I'm still on auto shoot with my new Nikon D3100.
Thanks for the "sympathetic thoughts on the loss of my computer and pics. I am getting my new Lenova laptop tomorrow, so I am excited about that. I do still have all the original photos on CD's so nothing was actually lost (thank goodness). I do hope yours can be retrieved--you are so right, those special moments you recorded on photos are so precious and evoke such sweet memories that it is a real tragedy to lose them. Have fun with your new camera-does this mean you won't be getting much work done in the near future!!!!! Take care. Mickie :)
a d7000?! lucky girl indeed!
So happy for you!!
WOW, Kate I'm SO happy for you!! And so glad your first shot was of that handsome George. That is so cool to get that shot on low light like that. You're gonna have so much fun. Congrats!! xo ~Lili
George knew he was your first D7000 subject so he just gave you the winky eye look of approval .. ToonMan is always my first shot and he also gives a nice winky eye .. ;-)
A very nice present!
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking to upgrade my nikon too and was looking at this one the other day. Am buying a new lens for Christmas and hope to get the new camera body for my birthday. I may need tips on how to use it, so keep posting about it.
