A surprise

I am so excited. And no, it’s not because all of the photos on my EHD have been recovered. I still haven’t heard from the computer specialist who is working on it. I am excited because I came home today to find a new camera waiting for me.

It’s a belated birthday present from my husband.

I am now the proud owner of a Nikon D7000 which is a definite step up from my the trusty D80 I’ve been using for the past four years. I’ve charged the battery and am following the digi-tutorials and reading the manual and hopefully, in about a year or so, I’ll have it figured out.

Ha ~

This is the first photo I took using the new camera. It came as a ‘body only’ because all of the lenses I have will fit it. I took this using my 50mm 1.8 and this is straight out of camera (or SOOC).

The colors are spot on. The light was low and this was taken in Portrait mode on the auto dial, for heaven’s sake. The dial is quite different than that of the D80, so this is going to take some getting used to.

I am happy. And to think that the only thing I had planned for tomorrow was cleaning out the refrigerator . . .

So happy!!

WELCOME to the D7000 club. It was pretty much love at first click for me - so familiar being a Nikon and yet sooooooooo powerful and GREAT in low light. FUN!!!

Well done hubs... happy wife, happy life!

Congratulations on your new acquisition! The photo of George is dreamy. We always say that if you look at a sleeping dog for too long, you'll need to head of for a nap yourself!

Best Wishes,

Very cool! I've had my first DSLR for over 2 years and still haven't learned all the bells and whistles but I do carry the manual around in my camera bag and sometimes even remember it's there when I forget how to do something. To make matters worse, I bought a second DSLR (a newer, more advanced model) and had to make room in the bag for the manual for it......in the bottom of the bag, right next to the other one!

Yah! So excited for you! I just got the Nikon D7000 two weeks ago and LOVE it (upgraded from a D40x). I have sooooo much to learn but I jumped right in and started snapping. I look forward to your photos with your new camera!

I cannot say I am unhappy to have started catching up with your posts by reading the newest first for I have managed to skip all the heartbreak for a friend losing precious photos and get right to the joy of a spanking new fantastic camera! What a difference a few days makes!

Also great news re the MRI:)

Your husband has good taste ;)

I got my D7000 in May & practically every time I use it, I say out loud, "I love this camera!" It's light weight, quick & EASY to learn! It fits perfectly in my hands - I think folks with large hands would struggle with it. I say it's a ladies camera.

When it's on a tripod, I use live view & manual focus to zoom in. Talk about detail!!

I love the D7000/50mm 1.8 combo, but the 35mm 1.8 actually stays on the camera most of the time. It's actually a 52mm when you take the 1.5 crop factor into account. http://tinyurl.com/dcokgh

You're going to have a great weekend! Give hubs a hug ;)

What an amazing gift! I am a novice photographer, so I don't have much of an idea just what all the terms mean. My camera is a very simple, inexpensive one, quite basic, and thus far is working out fine on my own blog, which I just began on Thursday - berriesandmore.blogspot.com - if you catch some time away from your own camera.:-)

Great photo with the new camera... now all you have to do is recover the data from the hard drive. Technology eh? Great when it works, not so great when it doesn't it.

Congratulations!! I know you were being "funny" when you said in a year you would have it figured out, but for me that would be close to the truth! I'm still on auto shoot with my new Nikon D3100.
Thanks for the "sympathetic thoughts on the loss of my computer and pics. I am getting my new Lenova laptop tomorrow, so I am excited about that. I do still have all the original photos on CD's so nothing was actually lost (thank goodness). I do hope yours can be retrieved--you are so right, those special moments you recorded on photos are so precious and evoke such sweet memories that it is a real tragedy to lose them. Have fun with your new camera-does this mean you won't be getting much work done in the near future!!!!! Take care. Mickie :)
