Disclaimer: There are no men in this post. There are only some tufted titmice and a few other birds. So if you’re looking for men, I apologize for that in advance.
And now, on to the titmice.
They sure are cute.
And feisty.
And they’re quick.
Really quick.
I so enjoy sitting outside in our yard on a sunny day and capturing the bird life with my
70-300mm lens. Above is a female downy woodpecker. Not to be confused with the hairy woodpecker, which is similar but a little bit bigger in the body (and with a longer beak).
A sweet little chickadee.
A female cardinal in all her burnished glory.
And her mate watching her from above.
I love this lens – it really lets me lock on the birds for sharp images. I take all of my bird photos hand-held so it’s important to me to have vibration reduction in a lens. All of these shots were taken with my Nikon
D7000 on the P mode with the ISO set to 100. Images were edited using
TRA’s prettyizer action and
Kim Klassen’s shine texture, soft light blend mode, brushing off the bird image.
I hope that makes sense.
And finally, a nuthatch seems to pose at the suet feeder.

I did take a quick trip yesterday with some friends. We went to (of all places) New York City. Good grief, what is coming over me? My friend told me she was going up there to the Little Italy area, specifically to look for scarves for sale, so I jumped on that bandwagon figuring I’d never seen that area of the city, so why not? I’ll share some photos tomorrow. Got home late, and these pictures were already set up in a post I had ready for this evening.
Hope your week is a pleasant one, my friends . . .

Beautiful, beautiful images and I can't wait to see your pics of NYC!

Oh, and P.S. we are going to have to change your name to Chronicles of a City Girl pretty soon! ;)
You are becoming quite the little Miss NYC. Love it!
Your just like me with the camera ! I love mine as well 55-300mm Nikon DX and my Nikon D3100 with the Viberation Reduction lenses ! These cameras and lenses are awesome arent they ! Your photos are Fantastic ! Nothing like being there watching your subject as you photograph them ! Have a great day !
Such sweet birdies!!
Great shots!
Beautiful images! Enjoy your week.
Really love those edits. You do them so well! I need not to think of any more editing programs! Gah!
My husband and I just had a talk about the titmice... Your photos are amazing. Bird feeders provide hours of entertainment for me. Nature at it's best!
Oh how I love your bird photos!
I've noticed that the cardinals frequenting my feeders are redder this year - both the males and the red markings on the females. Don't know why, but they are certainly more beautiful.
Hope your husband is feeling better. I've been enjoying his photos too.
I love how my cardinals are never far from each other. Makes me smile. I know when I see her, I can hear him and know he is not far.
i love my 70-300 and can you believe, just recently found out that it has a macro option....OMG....where has my brain been? i mean granted i'm thrilled to have it back, but boy it was missed.....
anyhow, i was wondering how come there is a titmouse but not a penismouse ??
xoxo
The only thing I understood was men, and that there were none. Thank you for making that clear in the very clever title, because it set my expectations right up front. I would have been searching. Looking.
However you created these images, they are absolutely amazing.
beautiful!!!!
Love love love the bird images and your editing is amazing as well :)
you are spending a lot of time in the big apple...pretty birds...
lifts the spirits!

I love this bird! They are so fragile looking, Nature's winning sculpter.
Great photos...but why do I think it would be any different today...always a fantastic job.
Those birds are so cute and you take great pics of them!
Why is it my family can't utter the bird word without snickering.
*sigh* men. I'm not looking for more, believe you me.
Okay .. now I am really scratching my head .. she wanted to go to Little Italy to get scarves? Isnt she from NJ? Has she never heard of the Secaucus outlets? In NYC you pay almost 9% tax ... in NJ you pay none .. I thought she wanted to go see Little Italy ...
Oh I love those tufted titmice guys...so cute they are. This past weekend I had a very curious (very odd behavior) little bluebird checking me out. He was so close to me, I LOVED it and wished I had my camera.
GREAT pictures. All of those guys are so cute.
Sounds like fun to me!
Beautiful pictures, Kate! You do such good work with that camera!
I love the titmouse and you are so lucky to be able to pop up to New York for a quick shopping trip.
love love love your blog!!!
Debbie
Hey, Sparkle-Girl--if I had the chance (and the good health and money), I'd take a trip to NYC, or most anywhere if I had the opportunity.
I'm happy for you--(and thankful we get to live it vicariously through you.) The birds, the words and George and more---all of it--I love seeing and hearing about it all.
May God bless you with more good trips!
Ah MAZ ing! Those first two especially...and that female cardinal is a heart breaker for sure. LOVE her. So it will be fun to see Little Italy as I've not been there before either. xo ~Lili
New on Pinterest...and I'm now following you!
I started smiling at the title, and smiled all the way through. How can you not smile at a titmice? wait, titmouse? oh, you know what i mean...
and i really needed a smile today, so thank you.
I am jealous of your shots! These are wonderful. Had to take my window feeder down because of the window installation. And love that you posted camera/lens info. Thank you!
I love your bird images, Kate! It's wonderful that you can capture that action hand held and at ISO 100! The lighting is beautiful. xo
One day I would like to take photos of birds, as beautifully as you do.
Your photos are really breathtaking. The titmice win the sweetness prize, for sure.
