It’s Sunday night and I’m watching Disney’s A Christmas Carol. It’s a really good movie but I feel a little guilty that I’m not watching the national news. Sometimes, though, I really don’t want to know what’s going on in the world. Is that so wrong?
Got my decorating finished this weekend and it looks great.
Nah, this isn’t my place. Fooled you, didn’t I? This is The Caldwell Library at the school where I work. We’ve never put a tree in there before. I think it looks simple and perfect.
This is the tree in our school lobby. This was me fooling with the focus ring to get some blur. Wednesday is our last day before Christmas Break, and the lobby will be filled with children in two separate sessions, singing Christmas carols. It’s a beautiful thing.
Coming up the driveway to work on Friday.
Cornfield in the snow.
We had a little snow yesterday but it was followed by sleet that turned to rain by morning. The skies were bright and sunny earlier, but by afternoon it began to cloud over quite thickly. At one point, I was sitting in the living room and suddenly the outside became very bright. It was a break in the clouds and I went to get the camera.
Some other things I enjoyed this weekend were, in no particular order:
Jazz Holidays Radio on Pandora
Soupman tomato bisque with Grilled Cheese sandwiches on rosemary bread
The movie, Love Actually
{This post} by Kelly
Planning to make {these cookies}
Decorating my house
Thick, warm socks
A newsy e-mail from my son in NYC
Hairspray, at the {Tidewater Theatre} in Havre de Grace
An impromptu dinner on board someone’s boat
Decorating my little tree
{This song} from the Love Actually soundtrack
I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.

Here’s to a good week to come.

Kate what a lovely post.
Some things I enjoyed this week were some peace when I could find it..
Having my house decorated..
a nap
my hubbies cooking
laughing and smiling at life,
talking endlessly on the phone to a friend and my sister.
and looking back with a grateful heart.
Merry Christmas Kate.

Your tree is beautiful, as are the trees at your school! It sounds like you've had a wonderful weekend! :) And Love Actually is one of my very favorite movies of all time!!!

Your tree is lovely...the colors are so vintage! I love the school building and the library is so inviting...with the tree especially. Impromptu dinner on a private boat....do tell! Your weekend was full and that'a good thing! Hope you have a wonderfully blessed short week! xo
LOL...trying to fool us !!
it was 8 degrees this afternoon when i wanted to go out and shoot just for fun....didn't happen :(
now i have to check out your links....xo
Whoa, whoa, back it up.... I'd like a little more info about dinner on someone's boat. Sounds simply marvy!!!!
The rest of it was good, too. I was really struck by the cornfields in the snow... Something you never see round these parts....
Loved your post, Kate! What an extraordinary school! Very different from any school I've seen in Arizona. Don't feel, bad about watching the news; I stopped years ago because of all the gloom and doom. I get my headlines from CNN.com and can dig deeper into any topic that interests me.
My goodness, you are surrounded by so much beauty...you must feel blessed everyday. You sound like you're doing good and getting full into the holidays. I'm happy for that. ♥
Enjoy the children this week. It's a wonderful thing to see Christmas through a child's eyes.
Sarah
Hope your holiday is a good one.
You work at a beautiful place! I must say that it is quite impressive! You should see a photo of the school I used to work at (public) with concrete block walls and mold growing on the walls and sewer gas in the restrooms!
Lovely snowy photographs - and hi to George too.
WOW, that's one beautiful school!... lol the public schools my children and I have attended would never have a library of such beauty, maybe not even a tree!
Axel says G'day back to George!
Oh how I adore Love Actually... it makes me smile. For hours and hours. And that first room... wowsers!
♥
Great BOKEH with that tree!!!
Give George a scratch from me :)
cornfield!!!!!!!!!!!!
love the blurry shot actually!!!
xo
Ha! Actually, you did have me fooled. :o) What a beautiful library. I'd spend most of my time in there, I think.
I don't watch tv, read the newspaper, or listen to the radio and haven't for years. News depresses me.
Give George a squeeze from me and tell him I think he's cute.
Blessings,

So much beauty in this post! Love the beauty of your school, and of the cornfield, and of the snow....love the list of your weekend activities....but I have to stop and ask more about that impromptu dinner aboard a boat! What?!!
That is a wonderful school. I love that building. Really cool place I bet.
Hello Georgie!
Wow - lovely looking school! What gorgeous photos Kate. You must be feeling apprehensive about Christmas. Big hugs over the Atlantic. x
That's a beautiful school and stunning library. It looks so sophisticated. And the tree looks great. Of course everything you do looks great, Kate. (couldn't resist the rhyme)
I like you weekend likes.
Wait. Dinner on board a boat? Do tell!
And...CORNFIELD.
Good one! When I saw the first photo, my mouth literally dropped open!!!
Just noticed your new blog header photo. Love it! You always do a good job on it.
what a gorgeous school you work at. I love the song by Dido. Of course I like just about anything from Dido. Your tree is beautiful! my daughter would love the owl. She is so into owls these days. We only have our tree up this year and some lights outside. Usually we decorate the whole house but this year we are going to Red River, New Mexico for a couple of days. Then off to take my daughter to college in Idaho. Our house will be empty when she is gone. She keeps us young. have a great week and stay warm.
You've been busy, lady! I've been making tied blankets for my grands, knitting fingerless mitts, making the inevitable Chex Mix and Pretzel candies---but no impromptu boat outings here! Ah well... :) Give George a hug!
Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL photos! That school you work at is fantastic, so regal looking!
P.S. Hi George! :)
Beautiful school! thanks for sharing the awesome information of your blog and It is provides best service. So again thanks.

So to get that fabulous tree shot you just shot it out of focus? I never knew that...what a great tip! You did fool me with that first shot...I thought it was the manor house...so beautiful. xoxo
How is it that a total stranger (of sorts)and so far away be in your thoughts at Christmas, and yet, you have been. Because I know that first Christmas without. It's tough. I hope you were surrounded by much love and your heart was warmed by great memories of Christmases past. Bless you my dear for being so strong.
