Sweet light

When I let George out at 6 am, it was gently snowing. Our school follows the county when it comes to weather-related closings, and the call usually always comes in at 6 am. I assumed school was a go, because we weren’t really supposed to get much anyway. However, as I was walking out the door an hour later, the call came through. School was closed.

We always jump the gun down here in Maryland and since this was our first snow fall of the season, rather than calling for a 2-hour delay at 6 am, the county decided to wait and then to call off school. Unfortunately, many of our teachers and most of our families were already either on buses or en-route to school when the call came in. I went in anyway with my boss who lives in the neighborhood next door to me. We got a lot done in the quiet of the day and left early.

I came home and after checking on the progress of the master bathroom, I got changed and settled down to watch TV. Because I’m lazy like that. And my new favorite show was on: Rehab Addict on HGTV. I absolutely love this show that transforms older homes to their former glory. Nicole Curtis rocks, and I wish I had her mad skilz when it comes to carpentry and just about everything.

After that, I switched to the Food Network where Ina Garten and guest host, Giada De Laurentiis, were cooking and having a swell old time togher. I think I fell asleep after that because I remember dreaming of mascarpone and lemon gnocchi.

When I woke up, the light had changed and I bundled up, grabbed the camera, and George and I took a little walk.

And captured all of these images with the sweet light. I don’t know, maybe you get tired of always seeing photos of the property here. Maybe I should branch out a little more.

Or maybe I can do whatever I want.

I can’t remember the last time I napped during the day.

Oh, wait.

It was last week when my back was hurting.

I love bare branches and pretty skies behind them.

And I still can’t believe it took me six years to finally paint the front door.

We only had 3 inches of snow but it’s gotten really cold and it’s supposed to get even colder as the week wears on.

The jumble of sticks you see in the center of this photo is my bird feeding station. I am not using my husband’s squirrel defeating wire anymore and have posts up for the feeders. They surround two big stumps my husband put there to hold up large branches for birds to perch on. It makes photographing them easier because they have something to perch on. There used to be a lot more branches, but they all crashed down after last winter’s epic snowfalls and I just can’t put them back together like he had them.

And then it got dark and I made angel hair pasta with meat sauce for dinner.

And now I am full.

Exciting, aren’t I?

Don’t answer that . . .

Yes you can do whatever you want! At times many of my photos are from our own backyard. And I always say you have to have ordinary days to compare with the great days!

Your day sounds just great! Those are two of my favorite TV shows, too, and pasta with meat sauce is on the menu for tomorrow! No snow here, but the temps are going from cold to colder, too! Take care, and stay warm. xo

Lovely photos. I love an occasional nap but no longer than 20 minutes. If I nap longer than that I feel all out of sorts. We are in the deep freeze in Chicagoland. Brrr!

I made ramen noodles today for lunch, then I read the label. Crud, not a very healthy thing to eat. I don't know how I didn't know that. I'm 54 years old and I had no idea. Lol!

No snow here below in VA, but it's C-c-c-cold!
Yes--you can do whatever you want. And since it seems I remember you posting pictures from STOCKHOLM pretty recently, (Oh! AND Florida!), thinking we may get tired of the "same old pictures on the grounds" of the Manor house...Well, ha!

Yeah, well. Anyway, (Snickering, Kate, and hoping you are with me!), you CAN do what you want! (Oops! No, none of us really can for long, but it's a nice dream! And we need dreams.)

If I were you, dreaming of those beautiful, colorful buildings in Stockholm --and the food there --I might think about booking a flight for George, Miss Blackie and myself, and seeing if I could make it over there.

(Of course, I don't have a George, darn it. And my cat could easily chew up Miss Blackie and spit out what was left of her. But I don't like thinking 'bout that. Nor do I like seeing the deep scars on my arms and legs from our dear "Baby Cat". We misnamed her, Her real name should be H.B.; you can figure out what it would stand for. Especially if you ever watched Lonesome Dove.)

Stay warm and safe!
Sending hugs.

Sounds like an enjoyable day to me in spite of the snow. And no, I don't get tired of your photographs of your house and garden - and never of George! Keep warm.

Brrrr cold! We have no snow but it's 23 degrees with a windchill of 5 degrees. I'm just going to stay right here at my desk and work a while. Love the tree pics. The sky always works it's magic behind trees.

No snow here but the bitterly cold winds and temps are definitely making themselves known. Glad your back is feeling better and that you are resting when you can. Gorgeous images, who can tire of seeing that?! Not I!

I think you should just keep taking pictures of whatever strikes your fancy - they are all gorgeous and I love seeing them all! I too am a total sucker for bare branches with gorgeous sky behind. Just something special to me about how that looks. Love the reflection in the glass on the newly painted front door! ~chris

It's been ridiculously cold here all week. Not much snow, but too cold to even be outside.
Your sweet light is glorious.
Hope your back is feeling better. xoxo
