I am not here to tell you my sins. I often use song lyrics as post titles and this one comes from a tune I heard last week over Spring Break. It’s by Hozier, called Take Me to Church. I was driving around in NJ with a girlfriend, listening to a station I like on Pandora and she asked me if I had Hozier on my playlist. So at the next red light, I quickly added it and before I knew it, this song came on. I’ve tried to load it onto this post but despite my best efforts wasn’t able to it through Windows Live Writer, so here’s a link to it: https://youtu.be/MYSVMgRr6pw.
Groovy tune. Weird lyrics. But what the hey. I do like a good tune.
I have been so absent but offer no apologies. I think that blogging was a lifeline for me for so long. It was comforting - to write every night, sitting in the living room with my husband while he did his thing and I edited photos and worked on a post. It made me feel connected to the outside world and gave me a creative outlet. I am so thankful for it and for the friends I made through this blog.
I have been busy and trying to do new things. I took eight framed prints to the gallery and after they saw them, they asked for four more. My sister, Char, came to visit over the break last week and I took her up to show her where my photography is being shown. She was very complimentary.
We had fairly lousy weather last week and I was wearing my winter coat and scarf again. But on Saturday, the blessed sun finally came out and the air was soft and mild and so I spent the day cleaning up the bird feeding station out by the patio and planting some pansies in planters. I did several loads of laundry, hanging them on the line to dry and fell asleep that night with the scent of fresh sheets that smelled of springtime.
After I got done my chores, I sat outside in the sunshine with a cocktail, a book, and my best buddy.
If anyone knows of a way to get rid of weeds between the bricks of a patio, please let me know. My husband used to use Roundup but I refuse to use the stuff. Last year, I did a section at a time and hand-pulled each weed. I would almost resort to chemicals before I did that again . . . ugh.
Kitten Kitten loves to sit by the open window and look outside at the birds.
And life is ok.
I hope it is with you, as well.
Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Glad to hear you are ok. Sometimes that is all that is necessary. As for the weeds...I also refuse the roundup business. Depending upon the weeds, sometimes straight vinegar will work.
Yay for no Roundup! I read a recipe with epsom salts and some other stuff...perhaps if you google it you could find it. My father used it and he said it worked.
I too stopped into the gallery where you are showing and I was beaming with pride at your work! Well done, Kate! I was bummed I didn't get to see you...I went looking for you Friday night but alas, you weren't there. Maybe next time.
Glad things are good and I am also happy about the change in weather. Does a spirit good.
Beautiful photos Kate! Please give Mr. George an extra hug / treat / belly rub for me. I was also very glad to see that sunshine! I took a nice long walk out in it. Glad you are doing well, and congrats on the gallery showing! <3
Lovely photos . Hey we all have other things to do other then blog all the time . Nice to hear from you though . I have heard white vinegar will get rid of weeds ! Thanks for sharing oh and Congrats on your photos in the gallery ! Have a good week !
Glad all is good, Kate! Congrats on the gallery showing. Hope you're enjoying the spring weather we've been having. Don't be so hard on yourself!
Good to hear you are trying new things.
Congratulations on your gallery showing.
I'm pleased to know I am not alone when I weed my porch!
This post has touched and healed my heart more than I understand, or you could know. Thanks for looking in. Glad your excellent photos are getting proper attention

Congratulations on the gallery showing! You should be so proud...your photos are always so gorgeous.
I've been trying new things and going new places as well. I did so initially to try and meet people in our new town, but I'm having a great time learning and exploring on my own.
I hope the days continue to treat you well...xo
( I squirt Dawn dishwashing soap between the bricks...it's worked so far )
So good to hear you are doing well. My blog has also gone by the wayside. I had more to say before I left the workforce!
As for weed (or vegetation killer), Michelle is correct. Vinegar will do the job.

Happy to hear you are okie dokie. Enjoy!
Never worry about how often you post...those that love you have you on their feed and will visit. We ebb and flow, all of us.
Lovely photos, I see why they are at a gallery!
And Hozier, a wonderful Irish man who never gave up on his dream to be anything but a pop star, thankfully, I have him on my sidebar as what I am currently listening to. Seems we have the same taste, we recently discussed Natalie Merchant.
All the best,
Jane x
The gallery obviously has good taste! And RoundUp is BAD. Try vinegar, or boiling water (an electric tea kettle makes quick work of that).
So glad to hear that life is ok Kate - means you are getting there. Well done. Your lovely photography must help you enormously.
I agree with Michelle - boiling water is not a bad thing to use - just watch it only goes exactly where you want it to go.
hooray about the gallery and more prints!!!!!!!!
and i see the little cat is getting bigger .. i am guessing he still has no real name ..
i have missed you and of course its just as much my fault for not emailing .. xo
I've tried boiling water and dumping that on weeds. It actually worked. You might have to dump 2-3 times but it worked.
well, good morning! I enjoyed peeking into your world while I drank my coffee.... hope you have a splendid day
Sounds like vinegar works for weeds. I'm going to give it a try. : )
Lovely photos. Great that you are showing some of them.
try some boiling water kate
Perhaps salt water and a little bleach. I won't use anything that has to do with Monsanto.
I've used white vinegar and boiling water and had success. A T. of salt will kill dandelions also.
hey sweetie!!!
ummmm, if you were here, i'd make a joke about what cave you must be living in if you just now heard hozier and "take me to church"…..
then i'd tell you to "shut up, and dance"….
LOL
sorry, cracking myself up!
oops…better tell you that that is a song, too
snort
oh i miss you :)

When we purchased our home two years ago it had a flagstone sidewalk out front that had sand with moss growing in it between each piece of flagstone. I could not keep up with the weeds between the slabs of flagstone, and we do not use chemicals around our home, so we had to have it all pulled up and the sidewalk re-laid with a concrete between the flagstone. Looks great now. I understand that you rent so this would not be a possibility for you, but perhaps you could talk to the owners of the house for a solution of some kind. Just a thought... xox
Kitten is getting so big these days. There is nothing better than laying on fresh sheets, esp on a hot summer night. Hmmmm just the smell and feel of them.
yes, just use goood ole vinegar.
Sun is rising as I write, big and bright and burning off the dense fog. Going to be another lovely day on the South Coast of Oregon. Your photos are so pretty. Summer time coming up fast....Kiss George for me............ Kay
Good to hear from you, happy that you are out living life - it's a beautiful thing.
There is a recipe floating around the internet that I use for weeds, and they start to die in hours. It's vinegar, Dawn (the blue only) and salt. I get the vinegar in a gallon jug at Target, and mix large amounts at one time, then out it into squirt bottles. I don't know the ratio off the top of my head but you can see the recipe all over Pinterest.
No one deserves their photography displyed more than you! SO happy for you!
Sounds like life is good--Congrats on your photography being accepted into a gallery! As for the weeds, I won't use Round up either --There is a recipe I have seen for killing weeds that uses a vinegar concoction that I am sure you can find on the Internet.

Good for you, on so many levels!
The weather here has been up and down, but there is green to be seen and that warms my heart.
I refuse to use roundup too, I usually use a mix of vinegar, alcohol and Dawn... it will kill the top growth but not the roots, so they do come back eventually, but it's better than hand-pulling and better than roundup.
Congrats on the gallery!
xoxo
I use SALT - because of the dogs - and most weeds can't handle that.
I see that another commenter suggested vinegar for the weeds. I would try that first also.
How did the gallery show go? Was it a temporary thing or long term? How exciting to see you putting your prints out there for more people to see! I really enjoy learning about the different birds.
