I was just thinking that it's been a year ago since our beloved border collie, George, came to live in our home. My husband had been missing our former border, Ralph, and was thinking of getting another dog.
When Ralph passed away, my husband swore he'd never own another dog. And for a year, nothing was said about acquiring one. But then, slowly, talk about a puppy would occasionally enter the conversation.
For over a year, I threw every excuse at him. I reminded him how much trouble a puppy was going to be. And the fact that we'd need a fence. And how we wouldn't just be able to fly to Paris on a whim. And we'd have to plan our vacations and trips around the fact that we had a dog. And you know I was kidding about the Paris thing, right?
We fell in love with George right away. And even though he gave my husband a difficult time in the beginning, especially when it came to training him, they are the best of pals now.
I will add here that he never gave ME a difficult time while training.
I am so glad he is in our lives.

Happy adoption anniversary, George!
I always felt there is something not quite right about someone who dislikes children and pets. Our dogs are treated like family. They are pampered, loved and well cared for. We have also lost cherished family members and vowed to never get another dog. I didn't think I could bear the pain of such a loss again. But life goes on, time lessons the pain in our hearts, and we've added three puppies into our family over the years. Our "kids" range in age from 10, 7, and 5. True, we can't jetset to Paris on a whim, but with careful long-range planning we do go on an occasional vacation. Our lives would be so empty without the pitter-patter of paws.
I love that! The pitter-pat of paws.
aw...they are soo cute!
So glad you decided to get George...what would we all do without him?

I love George, he's so dang cute!
Congrats on the 1 year mark. Happy, happy memories.
*hugs*
Oh, there's nothing like a puppy! You're right about the travel part part... you do have to plan a bit. But it's a "sacrifice" well worth making. I simply couldn't imagine our life without Edward and Apple!!
George is indeed a charmer!
awwww what an adorable daddy George photo!
Happy one year!
George is our hero and if you let him run for president, he would probably win.
So glad there is George!!! He brightens my day so much.

Animals are such wonderful gifts from God. I believe He intended them to be our navigators through life.
My furry children are my three cats, Will, Grace and Jack. Never being cat people, we found ourselves to be parents to Jack, not to be confused with our Grandson Jack!
It's like eating one potato chip, you can't just have one!
Six years ago this October 6th, marks the anniversary of my beloved Heidi the beagle. She was the best dog a person could ever imagine owning. I miss her terribly as there is an empty space in my heart. As much as I miss her, I don't think she could ever be replaced with another which is perhaps why I have opted for the feline instead.
Thanks George for your input into my life!
One word -- adorable!
There is no substitute for owning a dog, Country Girl. I love mine to bits and forgive her pulling the kapok out of her bed and pulling off the wallpaper - knowing that she will grow up and be my faithful friend. George looks adorable.
And we are glad you have him too - cause we get to share. I am super envious of you being able to have him off lead all the time. Doubt I will ever be able to do that with Riley - he completely loses all his sense if he sees something he wants to chase. I should also note that every dog we have ever had - no matter how much they like Larry - do not listen to him at all.
And isn't this the first time we have seen your husband?
I like the good old names you guys pick out for your dogs.....Ralph....George! Very solid and no-nonsense. Lucky dogs!
Happy Adoption Anniversary George ... Kate, I am not sure who is cuter your husband or George!

We have six children and a 13 yo "retired from a horse farm" Blue Heeler. Dreading the imminent passing away. My DH is looking into getting back to managing at a Horse Farm, Know of anything?
We've had the exact conversations since our yellow lab Ralphy died last year. So far, we haven't caved in to a new puppy...yet.
What a cute pair you have there, lucky girl.
Aw.. What a nice post! I love animals and could never be without a dog. Gorge is so sweet.
That dog always makes my day.
I've loved all our dogs. But some are just more special than the others. Sounds like George is one of those dogs as well.
How lucky all of you are to have each other!
Happy anniversary!
