Excuse me while I kiss the sky

Last year, when I was new to Photoshop, I would get all these free tutorials in my e-mail box every day from Photoshop Roadmap. Some of them were pretty interesting, and some of them were junk that I'd never use, but the best part was that I was learning new things.

One of the many tutorials that I found fun was turning a photo into an illustration. And I found just the right picture to use for this technique. This is a photo I took of my husband in the fall of 2006 using my little Sony Cybershot point & shoot. He's riding a bike down the South Beach Road in Ocracoke, North Carolina. The original photo sort of made me yawn. But I liked how it looked after using the illustration techniques I'd learned. And maybe it's just me, but I love what it looks like now that I've added texture to this photo.

This is the original SOOC.                                      This is the illustrated version.

I want to get it printed on canvas and keep it forever.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

PS ~ Extra points if you can name the artist in the post title. And no cheating, either.

Wow. I spelled Jimi like my friend's cat Jimmy No Balls. Too much wine. :)

I have no idea whose quote that was, but I must say, that your illustrated version of the picture is kind of Wyeth-ish, that egg-tempra look. I like it.

By the way, my husband just learned that pictures can be printed on canvas - this will greatly increase the number of pictures and decrease the bank account framing them.

very cool application to the photo....

I have no idea who the title artist is. Sorry.

I have canvas especially made for my printer. It really would be cool to print and hang. What fun!

Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze - and no I didn't cheat even though I now see others got the answer as well.

What a lovely sentimental photo - love what you've done with it.

Your title is perfect!!!! Can you hear the guitar twanging that irrefutable chord? Oh..that just took me back...
Try printing this on quality paper...see just how the canvas effect comes across...then..you can brush stoke certain areas to make it look as if it was actually painted. Afterwards, you can determine if you want to go canvas...it is fabulous!

Well, we are all dating ourselves by answering that question, aren't we? Jimi Hendrixx. Play it with your teeth, Jimi!

You need to have that one done on canvas. Definitely.

Hope you have a good weekend. Warmer temps on Sunday. Yaay!

Mary

...Hi Kate! Oh that's Jimi Hendrix! I used to think he was singin', "excuse me while I kiss this guy"...lol

...I love that textured photo! You are so creative on so many levels girl! And well, I just love that photo - period. It speaks to me for some odd reason...

...Btw, I am wanting to purchase Photoshop, do you use Elements or the bad boy that PW uses?

...Sorry I haven't commented lately, I'm still around. I think of you often and hope all is well and that your husband is doing better. Sending a {{{cyber hug}}} your way and scratch George on the head for me... :o)

...Blessings...

What a FABULOUS shot to treasure!! It is absolutely stunning with the processing and texture added. I don't have full blown PS -- just PS Elements.

In a word, this photo is breathtaking! I love the technique. I have PS and must learn to play with it for more than just minor adjustments. It's nice to have you as an instructor - I don't have to leave the comfort of my home to learn how to improve my photos. You're the best, Kate. Thanks!!!!
