Pink countertops, aprons, a giveaway elsewhere and ramblings

Reading your comments from the other day after I mentioned that I was in my kitchen making dinner and wearing my apron, well you had me cracking up, people! Yes, I sometimes wear an apron. It's mostly due to the fact that I'm a bit of a slob when I cook and am always wiping my hands on the apron. I also don't want to ruin my beautiful designer clothes and cashmere sweaters while I cook.

I'm also sorry I'm such a fibber because I don't own a single cashmere sweater.

I do like wearing aprons, though. An apron not only helps me to stay clean, but it makes me look as if I know what I'm doing as I concoct dinners nightly on my fun and quirky stove in my pink-countertopped kitchen.

Tonight I'm making linguini with clam sauce and those who know me know that my husband is the real cook around here. However, since his surgery back in October, I took over in the kitchen. It was just a bit much for him to have everything ready all at the same time and to try to find things in a kitchen he wasn't familiar with in the first place. You see, we moved here in October after he lost his job and after he had brain surgery.

Frankly, I think maybe he's just milking it for what it's worth, having me cook all the meals. Or perhaps he just likes seeing me in the apron. I've noticed that sometimes when he walks by as I'm chopping or stirring, I'll see him raise his eyebrows and wink. I think he likes this arrangement and so, if this makes him happy, I'll don the apron and do the cooking! Speaking of aprons, this is the one I really want. I just think it's fun, don't you?

The giveaway I mentioned in the post title is over at Le Jarden girl's site. She's giving away two sepia toned floral prints and they are absolutely gorgeous. So head on over and check it out.

Those of you who have asked to be interviewed (from yesterday's post) will soon receive your questions, if you haven't already.

Also, some of you have asked me if I mind my husband using my camera, and the answer is a resounding NO! I don't mind at all. And if photography makes him happy, he can use it all he wants. Except for when I'm using it. And maybe someday we'll get one of the lenses that I'm lusting after. So, for now, we'll share.

I love having all of you visit and it's so good to see so many new faces that are fast becoming regular and welcome sights.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

I always wear an apron, I've ruined too many clothes. A girl can't have singed cashmere you know.

Still love the pink!

You know, the first thing I thought when I saw your kitchen pics was, "Wow her kitchen's clean!" LOL

Your kitchen looks like a fun place to be! You're a good wife! I like aprons too! (But my dear mother in law made me this awful pink checked and lace apron that looked more like lingerie than an apron! Needless to say - the hubby liked it! lol!)

A girl can never have too many aprons.

I have aprons and once in a while I will remember to put it on. But mostly I don't and then I ruin what I am wearing. But I do like your kitchen and yes, you are a domestic goddess.

I happen to love your pink countertops - although I am a tomboy, I do like pink.

As far as the apron thing, I wish I could get used to wearing one, but that is just not going to happen. I wear what I am cooking more often than not, but that's just me!

I'm never in the kitchen without my apron...talk about being a slob...all my t-shirts are splattered with grease stains...I really have to stop frying things...

I have an apron, but I never remember to put it on. I sometimes move it out of my way, but I have worn it maybe twice. I use a lot of that spray stain stuff. You have my olive oil bottle. And my dish scrubber.

LOL ... I have an apron too (shh, don't tell anyone - it keeps my clothes clean!) :D

Kate -- you're too cute for words and so is your kitchen.

My first time on your blog - your collie is so cute! I bet the apron really gets you in the cooking mood. After all, the clothes make the woman!

I wear a long apron like yours every single time I cook. I've spoiled too many clothes from spattering grease and goo. I like them. And I like your cheery pink kitchen!

I am such a slob in the kitchen I really should get an apron myself! It just hasn't really crossed my mind to be honest....

Your kitchen is just so cheerful Kate. I wish I could remember to wear an apron when I am cooking, but never can. All of my T-shirts have grease splatters on them. I also love the Etsy apron. That's just adorable. Almost to cute to wear to cook. Bit pricey for me though.

I'm an apron wearer too... even if I just sit down to eat a meal... keeps the dribbles and drips off my clothing. lol

My girls make fun of me for wearing an apron. They should know better- they have seen me cook and clean- well, at least once or twice in their lives!

I am also a fan of the counters.
I pointed out to my daughter-"look! she has one of those scrubby things you can fill up w/ soap!" she was not as impressed as I am.

Hello! I love aprons! I make a HUGE mess in the kitchen and on myself, especially if im using FLOUR! I am getting ready to try my hand a apron making =)

I now want an apron...do you think that will turn me into a cook? I somehow doubt it.

You're a nicer wife than I am. My dh and I didn't share the camera well. Which, of course, led to a second camera. But now we so enjoy going out of photo shoots.

Apron? That's not an apron its a ruffle explosion amidst 1960s psychodelicia ... (I made up that word, just now!)

Love your blog. It is a wonderfully peaceful, serene but fun place to land in this blogosphere of ours. When I put an apron - I am instantly filled with all of the good feelings I have had cooking for our big family gatherings. I immediately overcome with the sweet fragrances of homecooked meals and comfort food. An apron is so much more than protection from spills and splatters. You have a kitchen that is homey, inviting and you!

32 comments? I just got home and there's 32 comments here. Wow. You'd think my apron story with the pink countertops must be a thrill a minute! Ha.

Yeah, the one I like is a little frilly. I may have to rethink my position. Welcome to all the new faces here. Chris1, I've seen you before. DivaHick (fun name!) welcome. Welcome to Boutique by Bonnie, the Blue Ridge Gal, Bethany and Lyn. I'm so glad you all stopped by.

Betty, there's tons of aprons over at etsy.com. You need to go there!

Leenie, my Quantaray is OK. I'd rather have another, but it was being offered for $100 when you purchased the D80 with the kit lens so my husband picked it up. It's fine. Of course, the one I want is around $4000, so the Quantaray was a great deal. Most of the bird pics were shot with that. I'd prefer something much much better, though but can't afford it today. Or this year.

I love aprons. They're pretty. Pretty darned handy at wiping the grub away too. It's like I'm wearing a giant t-towel.

I should wear an apron more often. I'm always finding stains on my clothes from my cooking and well... from my eating too!

That one on Etsy is darling!
