I really haven’t been myself lately. I haven’t been my usual happy self at all, although spring is lightening everything up out there in the world around me.
But today, I finally began to feel a little better.
I left work briefly to get the giant bandage off my right index finger. The stitches will come out in another week but for now, I’m doing bending exercises for the finger unless I want it to “stick straight out for the rest of my life” as my surgeon so bluntly put it. He said I should do them five times. “A day?” I asked. “No,” he said, “an hour”.
Silly me thought I could type right away but when the finger doesn't bend correctly, well there’s no typing for that finger yet. My husband gave me a compliment which surprised me. He said that I could type better with nine fingers than most people could who use all ten.
That was nice of him.
When I came home from work today, I noticed that the house was cleaner. And that never fails to make me happy. The wood floors had even been swiffered. And while my tea was brewing, I took these photos you see here.
My two sons sent me a beautiful bouquet of tulips for Mother’s Day. And although they didn’t get here until Monday, it was really a nice surprise! I used SheIsPretty Stock textures for the top two and a Ghostbones texture for the yellow one below.
My husband and I sat outside on the porch while I had my tea and he told me about his dream to buy a very small RV with a Mercedes diesel engine. He wants to do this while he’s still alive and feeling ok, he said.
He has mentioned this before, but today he sounded very serious about it. I’d love it if he could have his wish. It would be so wonderful for him. Something new and fun. And I’ve always enjoyed camping in luxury.
Deep sigh.
I’m just glad I’m feeling better. It’s so good to get that damn bandage off!
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Love the tulips in your photos...so soft and muted...the color looks like an antique....
Now bend that fingerm Kiddo!
And bend that FINGER as well.....sheeesh....I have no bandage and still can't type...
I love how pretty and soft you made those tulips. Don't forget to do your finger exercises and hope you continue to feel better!
P.S. I've been bugging my hubby that in the future I would like a small RV to travel across the U.S.
Those tulips are beautiful. I'm glad your finger is on the bend;) And I hope his wish comes true.
glad you are feeling better, these photos are beautiful. I also love the visual of you and your husband sitting on the porch with tea and nice conversation, these are my favorite parts of the day with my hubby.
Beautiful tulips and the texture is perfect! I am a two finger typer so you have it all over the place with your nine.
So glad you hear your finger is better...I was such a baby when my finger was bad last month...and you had stitches....I can't even imagine that!! Your tulips are beautiful and I hope you had a lovely Mother's Day....and I hope your husbands wish to travel comes true...
glad you're feeling better and I hope the PT goes well. the colors are so beautiful on these and I loved them as soon as I saw them on flickr.
I would love to have an RV and travel too.
Th tulips are gorgeous. I type with two fingers, so......... If he is serious about that RV, he couldn't have chosen a better time, most people are selling due to the economy. Good luck with that. Glad you are feeling better.
Pretty pictures of the tulips!!!

Will be back tomorrow.... this post made me a little sad for some reason..
Take care of that finger and do what the doctor tells you.

That pink tulip is particularly beautiful. Keep working that finger. I'm glad you're feeling better.
Your tulip pictures are lovely Kate. How sweet of your boys to send them to you as well. Glad to hear your finger is doing better.
Hope your husbands dream does come true.
life on the road was so much fun. I miss it terribly. The places we saw together. the time we spent together will always be such fond memories. do it. rent an rv if you must. do it. take your camera and george with you and have fun.
your photos are fantastic. they are so artistic, creative and simply beautiful.
kiss you boo boo and make it all better.
When I read the title, I thought maybe you'd gone riding! ;)
Great photos, fun editing process on them. I hope the finger is better soon. Camping in style would be fun...imagine the places you'll go!
Absolutely gorgeous photos Kate! I'm glad you are feeling better, I've noticed in your posts that you've not been yourself..
RV life..that is very popular in Norway- actually all of Scandinavia and probably Europe. Hope your husband gets his wish...where does he want to go when he gets his RV?
Just stumbled across your blog!
The tulips are very pretty...flowers are always a good thing for mothers day (or at least my mother always enjoys getting them)
Finger excercises are very important! I'm a nursing student...so i feel it is my duty to reinforce what your surgeon said!
Oh, I love your tulip photos - they are just beautiful. What thoughtful boys. Mine gave me a three bags of laundry!!! The only effect applied was the one where the washing machine breaks while plowing through the laundry and I have to buy a new one (not worth repairing a 10 year old washer!)
Keep exercising that finger - that way it won't look like you had a "nose picking" injury!!!!
I hope your husband's dream comes true - if there was a way I could help, I would. Any one who's been through what he's been through deserves to have all their dreams come true.
These are gorgeous!
I think travelling in an RV would be fun! Hope it happens!!
Those tulips your kids sent would help in making anyone feel better!! And what you've done with them is just fabulous!! Thanks for the links.......I wish I could figure out how to make the textures!
Keep bending the finger, you don't want it sticking out for life.
And the RV......think of all the places you could photograph and still have a little luxury!
Oh Kate, these are so beautiful! Happy to hear that your finger is coming out of it's cocoon. (is that REALLY how you spell cocoon?) And I hope your husband gets his wish -- it sounds like a fun one. :)
wishing you happiness today and every day. :)
xoxo,
Mary
Hope the finger is back to 100% in no time! Love the tulips - gorgeous processing, as always. And the camper idea sounds wonderful - I don't mind a little roughing it, so long as I don't have to sleep on the ground and there is a handy place to keep the wine chilled. And a bathroom. A stove is nice too. Can I come with you guys?
Wow, your photos look like dreamy paintings. Tres cool! Glad you're feeling better.
I have to say, Kate, that coming to your blog really puts me at ease. You have a lovely, gentle way of writing, no matter the subject. Its the kind of blog that makes me want to curl up in a big, overstuffed chair in my comfy old pj's with a cup of hot tea and a good book. Next to a window that opens up to soft, flowery countryside. I just love it...
I am glad your finger is healing finally... And your husband is feeling better finally...
Oh, and I want George. Lol!
Still lovin' your blog.
Em
Glad the bandage is off too ... my sister had surgery on a finger and had to do the same sort of hourly exercises ..do them, they work
And I think his dream is wonderful ... Husband had a similar one a long time ago when we were anticipating a large inheritance .. didnt quite work out ... I hope it does for you!
May all your dreams come true, Kate...ALL of them.
Beautiful tulips. Nice to dream and to have it fulfilled.
I have noticed your melancholy, but really it is so undestandable. Ihope he can have his wish too, and these flowers are beautiful!
HI Kate! These pictures are stunning! I mean it, these might be my favorites since following your blog!
Sorry to hear you have been down lately...i have been too, ever since finding out I was pregnant and then feeling sooo sick until week 17 (im 18 weeks now)...I had no desire to do much blogging, or anything that I enjoy. Im coming out of it though and I hope you do too, soon! Glad your bandage is gone!
Btw, we are having a THIRD girl in October =)
Having been away for almost three weeks I didn't know about the finger - so sorry. Do keep up the exercises - one of my early memories is of my father "walking" his fingers up the wall in order to strengthen his arm after an operation on it. Do hope that the Spring lightens your mood and makes you feel better.
Oh just loverly!
For a giggle come stop by and check out the top ten reasons how you know you've lived in L.A. for too long.
haven't stopped by for awhile but you sound down! google that rv and you might find a great used one. i hope he realizes his dream.
Bandage off, some seriously gorgeous pictures (sorry, pretty pictures inspire cussing in me and I'm laying a bluestreak right now...gorgeous!) and plans. A good day.
Those tulips are so lovely. Hope the finger is getting more flexible ... and appendages crossed for the RV dream coming true too.
You are so good! Just wow!
