Through my bedroom window on a rainy afternoon

It’s been doing nothing but raining for the past two days but I’m not complaining, mind you. My husband is finally feeling better today after the last bout with chemo and no more pain pills for me for the stitches in my finger. They make me feel weird.

Here’s the dogwood tree that I can see right outside our bedroom window, with its branches wet and dark in the rain.

I spent Sunday reading by this window then and straightening up what clutter I could. After watching Grey Gardens yesterday, the new movie version, I felt that I needed to get my house in a little more order. Not that it was bad. In yesterday’s post, I don’t want you to think that the movie is awful. On the contrary. There are parts of it that are just beautiful. It’s strange is all. And somewhat depressing.

My husband was looking through this very window in our bedroom on Saturday when he saw a huge groundhog come out of a hole back by Blue Girl’s grave on the edge of the property. The groundhog headed straight for the garden and made its way right through the fence! My husband ran out of the house, startling it back into its hole. At least now we know who is eating our lettuce. I liked it better when I thought it was a family of cute bunnies.

My husband picked a whole bunch of it today, cleaning it all up and putting it in bags in the frig. He also went out and got some new fencing and repaired the area where the groundhog is getting in.

After the storm on Friday evening, I noticed that there was a pink glow coming in the windows of the house. I went outside and captured the photo below. This is SOOC (straight out of camera).

It was really quite beautiful.

My husband made a nice dinner this evening, and cookies for dessert. I am so glad he’s feeling better. I can tell he’s feeling better when he makes his cookies.

So how are things in your neck of the woods?

OOHHHHHH, no, not groundhog(s)! I could tell you stories...in fact, i think i will in a couple days. Maybe a groundhog post. Best get it out now before it gets viscious! They do get mean, you know, especially when you chuck wood at it.

My neck of the woods is just hunky dory. *giggles*. We are having rain today which caused me to lay down and take a nap mid afternoon. Nice!

What a lovely photo of the dogwoods. Our are long past, but none the less, always beautiful in the landscape.
I am so glad to hear your husband is feeling better. Makes me glad to know that prayers are answered.

I'm glad that you and your husband are both feeling better. That pinkish sky is a beauty.

Beautiful photos, especially those of the dogwood. I don't think the juxtapositioning of those with the end of your husband's chemo is purely coincidental...God works in mysterious ways. We had a groundhog last year dig a hole two feet away from my front door and eat every last one my flowers that I had planted and nurtured in containers. I wanted to strangle that rascal but I contented myself with going a little country red on his hole instead. Good luck with that.

I am so glad to hear about his improvement. And yours! I heard a lady at the garden shop the other day say that she finally gave up and made her hedgehog a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every morning and left it by his hole. That way he left most of her garden alone;) Have a wonderful week.

Beautiful. I love dogwood trees, but the trees in my northern California woods grow more vertically. They are still amazingly beautiful against the dark fir trees.

How is it that dogwoods are so gorgeous every single year...that one photo is massed with them!

And I didn't comment two days ago, but I LOVED the purple pansy closeup.

I love your macro lens.
I love the flowers.
I love your blog.

I need to explain to my husband about making cookies.
:-)
glad yours is better,
Kt

You make the rain sound kind of mellow and happy....which it can often be! I'm glad your husband is feeling better. My weekend was odd...bad migraine and allergies, lots of sun and rain, some things accomplished, but I'm behind on others. Oh well! I finish dogsitting tomorrow morning so life can hopefully return to normal tomorrow night!

What a beautiful picture of the pink sky Kate. So glad to hear your hubby is doing better right now.

I just finished watching Grey Gardens. It was one of the strangest movies I have seen in a long time. I think that personally they both developed dementia at a very early age. Strange it was. yes, it was depressing to. I mean I'm still glad I watched it but kept wondering why I didn't turn it.

My neck of the woods may be in order for an ark. At the very least, a good mildew treatment! But is it ever green here, and that's beautiful.

Hi Kate.... the dogwood is just magnificant!! We had one in our front yard when I was a kid....I have always wanted another. I think it is just too hot in Texas...so I will admire yours!!! I have missed some posts so I am going back to read what happened to your finger :( Happy to hear hubby is feeling good and making cookies! hugs.

Ah, it rained here too .. but no pretty trees to look at when you live on the ground floor .. tho the trees across the street were shedding their little green spore things that make the street slick to walk on ..

Grey Gardens was a good but depressing movie the first time... when the Maysele (sp?) Brothers made it as a documentary

I am plagued by woodchucks who eat everything in site, and who have persisted in having a hole come up in my barn......I have found that dirty cat litter.....down the hole......sometimes has to be repeated once........makes them move to greener pastures. Although I am surprised that you have them so close with George around.

Glad your husband is through the chemo and feeling better. Praying for him and for you.

As for me - I am having a bowl of homemade strawberry lemon yogurt, and enjoying your photos. Dreaming of when the dogwood tree we are putting in this summer, will look like yours.

And thanks again for mentioning my comment love giveaway - so many people have stopped by as a result. You rock!

I am glad your husband is feeling better now after his last treatment. It always took me about 4 or 5 days to feel a bit better and out of the fog.

Lovely photos, we are having rain here too. I hope it ends soon.
Hope the fence works for the garden, I just planted some lettuce and it is safe for now as far as I know :)

My father-in-law is going through chemo again, and it is really hard. I'm glad your husband is feeling better.

I've been loving the rain, too. Everything is so green! We have a resident groundhog who lives under our garden shed. Needless to say, we don't plant any vegetables... :(

Hope the finger is feeling better soon!

Lovely view you have there.

And lol at the lettuce-thief being IDed ... the rascal!

The dogwood photos.... ethereal. I thank you for posting them. One of the trees I'm planting this year is dogwood, but I don't know that I'll be around to see it get as full and beautiful as yours is now. lol

So glad that your hubs feels like making cookies. Besides indicating that he is feeling better, it makes me smile that he treat you to cookies and pampers you that way.

Have a good week.

I am so glad hubby is feeling better. Things in our parts are depressing right now. My father in law is in the final stages of Alzheimers so we are very distracted and busy. I hope this is over soon for him....no one should have to go through this. Love those dogwood photos.
