I’m glad that autumn is on its way; I’ve always loved the fall. I’m glad, too, that the teachers are back in the building again. I’ve missed so many of them over the summer. School begins for us on Monday and I think we’re ready for the deluge to begin. My school days start and end with frenzy, and there are constant interruptions and multi-tasking like there’s no tomorrow. I used to handle it all with such aplomb, but lately I almost feel out of step.
I went to the hairdresser today, the one I love. I began going to her last December and have sent clients her way because she is so wonderful. When I returned home from Maine, I called right away to make an appointment for a cut and color, but the only slot available before the end of August would force me to leave work an hour early, which is something that’s looked down on at my school. It would be different if it were a doctor’s appointment, but a hairdresser appointment? Not so much. I made the appointment anyway, and as the time got closer, I realized I didn’t want to ask to leave work an hour early. So I called and cancelled the color, asking only for the cut. I figured I would just buy a box and do it myself (e-gads). But when she saw me, my hairdresser moved her schedule around and that of her assistant, not because my hair looked awful, but because she knew it needed to be done. I hadn’t been to see her since late May and my hair had really begun to go gray.
What she did was completely unexpected. And so much appreciated.
I’ve been feeling sort of quiet inside lately. I don’t have much to say. If Cher was here, she’d tell me to “SNAP OUT OF IT!” (name that movie)
And I will. Some day. But for now, I’ll just leave you with this, because I can’t write a post and not have a picture. It just isn’t me.
Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

Confederate Violets - one of my very favorites - and you photographed it beautifully!
Your hairdresser is an angel...but I'm one to tell you...don't be afraid of the box! ;-)
And that would be Moonstruck - a brilliant flick!
CHer's movie....Moon Struck! I loved it! I also really enjoy your blog. Thank you, Deb in Florida
I used to use the box, Annie. For years. But I'm not very good at it, so I have resorted to this.
Yes, Moonstruck!

I love Moonstruck, and have to remind myself to Snap out of it! often.
School will help bring your groove back (Stella)...we go through tough times (all different, all affecting us differently), but we get through it.
We are women...hear us roar! LOL Much luck to you...beautiful photo!
So why do y'll in the northeast start school so late, why we in the hot humid South, start on Aug. 19? When I was growing up, we NEVER started school until the day after Labor Day! Makes sense to me.
I am moonstruck by your photo of iris. Sweet post. Nice hairdresser. What's the matter with grey - snap out of it!!!
good or bad quiet inside? there is a difference and sometimes it can be in the middle...right where these beautiful blooms are!
Oh, and I should have added, I've been in the doldrums for a while now myself, only I called it a funk. Can't seem to get my engine goin' in any positive direction. The only thing I seem to do well these day is SNEEZE. A lot. And it's irritating.
Come up and see us!
Beautiful photograph! Love Moonstruck!!!
I feel like we are soul sisters...I am right there with you. I need to snap out of it...I am craving ways in which to do so...I want it so bad. At least it is nice to know, I am not alone. I love ya, Blister.
Do a self photo so we can see the new do!!
Moonstruck! Loved that movie and Cher in it.
My fave expression as of today is "Get used to it." hah
I always look forward to the pictures you post....you snap out the best of it with your talented eye!
Moonstruck is a fantastic movie, one of those that you can see a million times and never tire of.
Sometimes I wonder if hairdressers shouldn't be on the list of primary care providers in the insurance brochure. What a good one can provide is truly priceless.
I too struggle with the hair thing. I tell myself that going gray is the sensible thing to do, then I hate it and go for the color.
But then I hate that my hair looks 30 years younger than my face.
Makes me crazy.
I am up at midnight doing my thing....couple times a week, I sleep for an hour, wake up, and can not get back to sleep for the life of me, no matter how busy a day I have planned.
I like the saying "Get over yourself".
Bill Maher, on Politically Incorrect, used to have a 'Get over yourself award'......hmm....do you want to fight over it????
:)
You feel quiet because the universe is speaking wisdom and beauty in your inner ear, my friend

Oh, Moonstruck is one of my absolute favorites -- I can probably recite the whole movie. lol
I desperately need some color, too. Although my gray tends to congregate on the top of my head, where I can't see it, so it doesn't bother me so much... :)
LOVE the violets -- what a beautiful texture!
School starts on Monday here too. Where did the time go? Today both the girls are heading out to do a little back to school shopping. Oh my bank account!!!
I have always colored my own hair. It's easy for me and saves on my time. I just colored my daughters hair last week. How I wish she would just leave it natural because it's such a pretty color.
One of my all time favorite movies in Moonstruck. Cosmos moon, love bites, mama dying and all the rest. Cher never looked so good as the night they were going to the opera!

Dont listen to Annie, she will admit she gets varied results from the box ... just sayin'
And those voilets (Thanks Annie for sharing your incredible flower knowledge .. shoulda put this before the crack about the box, heh?) are sweet ...
Feeling a little down myself .. xox
It must be the dog days of summer. I feel like I need some kind of change too.
I want to see the new do now!
sneaking in and out to say... i have never seen Moonstruck. Just added it to my netflix queue.. with Alice Sweet Alice..
running out before being plummeled with tomatoes for being a loser.
Hmmmm my code word is mistifts... awful close to MISFIT if you ask me... sigh
Perfect saying...Snap out of it!!! Was that followed by a slap? Hmmm....
That perfect saying is exactly how I feel, too. Oh well...I will rebound, too...it's a matter of when.
Is it cyclical? There are several of us in this funk.
The violets are simply gorgeous.
Don't snap out of it if the timing's not right. But do try and bring something productive from it if you can. You're an artist - I know you will.
Dear Kate, I just came over from 'The Zen In You.' Now I see why you've "...been feeling sort of quiet inside lately." {{{{{{{{{{Kate}}}}}}}}}}
And oh pooooop on him and his way of "helping." So there...
Gentle hugs,
'Aunt Amelia'
I love the quiet of fall, too, when the kids go back to school. And the perfect weather that comes early on.
I've never been a DIY with hair color. Your hairdresser sounds like a gem.
...Well then, you're the girl I need to ask this question; how long does a color last when done at a salon? Do you have to go back for root touch-ups? I currently use box color and it doesn't last, I bet I have to do it once a month and in two weeks you can see it fading fast. I'm using Nice & Easy, is that not a permanent hair color brand?
Anyway, it's funny that you've posted about this because I was pondering this over my morning coffee earlier today...lol ;o)
...Thanks for always posting a photo - it's appreciated more than you know! :o)
...Wishing you a happy day my friend & blessings too...
...Here you are bunkin' with da funk and I'm goin' on about hair color! I'm sorry Kate - I hope you get out of it soon. Just remember, 'this too shall pass'...because it does. :o)
...I know this is gonna sound silly but when I get in a funk, I have this fav' cd and it's called Tony Bennett's "A Swingin' Christmas"...yeah, Christmas music in August, I know, but seriously...lol, it works! Or I treat myself to something special like a new book or a banana split or new shoes... Either way, I hope you're feeling up & at 'em soon! ;o)
Love the flowers Kate - know what you mean about the hairdresser - once the grey begins to show through I am off down there like a shot. There is nothing more relaxing that having one's hari done, so enjoy it. Trying to colour one's own hair results in dye everywhere and ruined towels I find.
I think maybe you need a little trip up the Turnpike. That's what I think;)
Kate... I understand that feeling inside, it approaches me every now and then, and tries to settle in but I only visit with it long enough to find rest in myself. Well, that's what I try to do anyway.
Your photo! So sweet, tender and pure. These are my favorite back yard finds or as I walk through the wooded side yard, I'll find them gently whisper..."I'm here". When I look at them...they smile beautifully at me.
Happy evening to you.
You sound like I feel. Hope you get back on track soon.
CJ xx
A good hairdresser is an angel and it sounds like you have one!
Apologies Little Miss Chatterbox is actually Chocolate Cat! Teenagers need to remember to sign out and mums need to remember to check!!!!
Must be something in the air....several blogs I have visited over the past several days have mentioned feeling out of sorts lately....me included.
Down here in the South, when things just aren't as they should be we refer to it as having the 'mulligrubs', the blues or being in a funk.
But then you might just be in a pensive state of mind too...a turning point maybe.
Whatever it is, it's a way to step back, take a look and proceed forward!!!
Hope you have a delightful and rewarding weekend!
Down here in the South, whenever someone is out of sorts, has the blues or just in a funk, we call it having the 'mulligrubs'. Been known to have it myself from time to time. But as always...this too shall pass! It is curable.
But then you might just be in a pensive state of mind.
I am hoping that you have a delightful and rewarding weekend!
Hugs to George!
Oops, posted twice...didn't think the first had 'taken'. Oh well...life goes on!
PS: I'm new at this. Can you tell?
Ah, thanks all. It's nice that so many of you have e-mail set up and I can respond to so many of you personally.
I was going to welcome Little Miss Chatterbox, but it turns out that it's Chocolate Cat, who was inadvertently signed in as her teenage daughter.
I will say welcome to JeanneWalker, though. Welcome to blogging, and no I can't tell you're new at this. I do that once a week.

i color my hair at home all the time and i'm about 75% gray now (premature grayer) - it's so easy.
but i'm glad she could work you in - that is a sign of a great hairdresser
Thank goodness for your hairdresser. She deserves applause for coming to your rescue. I'm very afraid of the box. I've only used the box with my mother and sister's help when we used to frost. Now it is to cover the nasty gray that appears and it needs expert help!
I've been a little quiet too as of late. Must be the season. Fall is her today too but won't last as September proves to always have some hot days.
I agree with Stickhorsecowgirls, it doesn't make sense to me either--we always used to start right after Labor Day when I lived in Jersey. My daughter started last week here in Virginia. Makes it feel like summer is over! Oklahoma was even worse when we lived there. They started in the middle of August!
So where's the hair? I want to see what she did!
