Missing my followers, among other things

I didn’t feel like taking a big walk with George today. For the past several weeks, since the weather got nice, I’ve been walking around the property and have gotten up to four times around, twice in each direction. I’m using my husband’s adjustable hiking poles that came in the mail from REI.

I’m sure I look like a freak. I don’t care. Those suckers really help!

Today I decided to just take the camera, leaving the hiking poles behind. It was warm and quite humid here today, but thank God we haven’t had some of the weather that others are having in this country. Bless you all.

Today, after the car line at our school, I tripped outside when my heel got caught between the edge of the pavement and the grass. Unfortunately, it was in front of about 30 people.

Good times.

Looking at the bright side, I’m none too worse for the wear after the spill. I am a bit of a klutz sometimes.

Another positive today was that all my followers have reappeared on my sidebar. They’ve been missing for a couple of days, and it’s good to have everyone home again. I feel surrounded by my friends, now. Connected with the universe.

This is not the Appalachian Trail you see here. This is our backyard along the property line. Between my husband and I walking (mostly my husband), there’s now a definite trail all around the grounds.

Long shadows in the backyard this evening.

These wildflowers are growing along the edge of the woods.

And now for some pressing questions.

Because inquiring minds just need to know.

  1. What was your most dramatic haircut like?
  2. Among items in your line of sight right now, what should probably be put in the trash?
  3. What aspect of life in the good old days would you love to see a return to?
  4. What was the last dream you remember?
  5. What was the last thing you purchased from a vending machine?

See you in the comments.

Until tomorrow, my friends . . .

1. What was your most dramatic haircut like?
When I got it cut short, a few years ago.
2. Among items in your line of sight right now, what should probably be put in the trash?
A popsicle stick from a couple days ago. It's not hurting anything. AND it could double as a bookmark, if need be.
3. What aspect of life in the good old days would you love to see a return to?
Common decent courtesy being the norm.
4. What was the last dream you remember?
My boss and her husband, both PhD's, decided to go hillbilly and moved into a shack out in the woods around here. Then, along with their 25 year-old son, they started selling pot. What the hell?I forced myself awake.
5. What was the last thing you purchased from a vending machine? A Dasani water, but I must've pushed the wrong button and one of those lemon-flavored ones came out. They are foul-tasting.

What was your most dramatic haircut like?
Between ninth and tenth grade when I went short for the first time since I was in kindergarten. I also got contact lenses that year for a real big change in my appearance.

Among items in your line of sight right now, what should probably be put in the trash?
A used emery board from this morning.

What aspect of life in the good old days would you love to see a return to?
Catching lightening bugs in jelly jars - with the holes poked in the top with a can opener.

What was the last dream you remember?
A few nights ago I dreamed of being on a ship again.

What was the last thing you purchase from a vending machine?
Probably a soda.

Love the path around your home. It looks so inviting.

1. A terribly short "pixie" hair cut the day before class pictures were to be taken in the seventh grade. I haven't worn my hair short since.
2. A pile of those envelopes that come inside other envelopes.
3. Letter writing and #2 pencils. There is something special about holding a written letter in your hands.
4. I was trying to take care of patients and there was a gorilla in the room. I'm an oncology nurse in a clinic.
5. Diet coke.

1. Most dramatic hair cut was when my neighbor cut my hair, shorter than most men!
2. There are a stack of papers, here on the desk, left by the Hubs, that I would love to throw away right now.
3. I would love to have a porch that I could sit on, and wave at the neighbors as they went by.
4. I have been working 8-10 hours a day for the last 3.5 weeks, and am so tired when I go to bed, I cannot remember my dreams when I wake up.
5. I purchased a big fat Kit-Kat bar out of the vending machine at work today.

1.Back when I was 30 something, my hair was down to my waist. I had it cut in a Sharon Stone cut.......yikes, what a shocker.
2.A whole bunch of ratty picture frames that I don't like.
3. Cars that have regular brakes, not anti lock brakes.....I hate them.
4. I dreamt that my daughter was going to take my dog Eddie on an airplane, and I was wild. The pilot said he had to ride "up front". I told my daughter I didn't want him to go, and then I took him off the plane.
5. I bought a bottle of water out of the machine at the Y.

I'll answer #3 and 5 together - I remember loving a little bag of delectables called Michigan Cherries from the Lance vending machine at the Islander, which was a restaurant/motel/marina/local swimming pool where i spent all my summers as a child. I loved those summers and the freedom of being there with people from other parts of the state, the country and the world. (We were so sheltered and isolated living in this small community that the people who came to the marina and motel were novelties.)

Our parents would often leave us at the pool with no money (for the entire day), so we made a sport of looking for spare change in the payphones coin return slots and underneath the vending machines.

The first handful of change that added up to something significant was spent on those Lance Michigan Cherries.

(Love your yard and those wildflowers - we have them here too. They're amazing.)

1. A very short gamine haircut. My husband's aunt told me I looked like Audrey Hepburn, which wasn't true but made me feel good. :)
2. Items too numerous to mention. My daughter is a slob.
3. Before cable TV when politics was less overtly nasty
4. Can't remember any dreams recently.
5. Water.

1. When I was about 4. The girl had no idea what she was doing and I ended up with nearly a buzz cut. For months people told my mother what a cute little boy she had. I've been damaged goods since.
2. Actually every damn thing I can see, outside of my camera, glass of wine and pepper mill.
3. With you on that one, Kate.
4. I just can't remember, darn it!
5. Water. About 6 months ago.

Love the path you've worn.

1. As a youngster, I wore my hair pulled back in a pony tail. One day my mother brought me to a 'beauty shop' and had the 'beautician' cut bangs on me and then permed them on the smallest rods! So then I wore my hair pulled back with freezy bangs! Yikes!

2. An doctor's appointment card.

3. The days when men were gentlemen and ladies were ladies. And people said 'yes, mam' and 'yes, sir'.

4. I remembered it this morning when I awoke, but can't remember it now. It's a good thing 'cause I was a little disturbed. I guess I ate too late last night!

5. A caffenine free diet Dr. Pepper!

1. The most dramatic haircut I ever got was a year long phase of Flock of Seagulls back in the early 80s. It wasn't pretty.

2. A note I wrote for Phil in case I was already gone to bible study, but he got home before I left...it tells him how loved he is and how to heat up his dinner.

3. When people actually sent real notes and cards instead of using texting or technology.

4. Something romatic involving Dale Earnhardt Junior and cuddling in front of a roaring fire.

5. Some spicy Chex Mix for my daughter in the hospital.

1- I was 10 when my mom went to cosmotology school. She practiced on me and my sister. For a whole year.... One day my hair would be straight and the next curly. I balked at a cut, but she did finally give me what she called a pixie cut with a ducktail. It resembled neither and I tried to be too sick to attend school.

2-My husband's ice cream wrapper.

3-Sundays being a day to do nothing. Go to church and spend time with family. No stores open, no laundry, etc.

4-Dreams come back to me in little snippets and sometimes elude memory all together. Last one I remeber had me in a house with my sister-in-law and I could not seem to find my way out....don't know what that means.

5-An A&W Cream Soda. I was hot and sweaty from mowing and it was wonderful.

1. My first haircut was when I was five and had my long, curly pony tail cut off!"C"s parent's and mine hired a teenager named "Eddy Lou" to babysit while they went out on the town. I convinced "C" to put a entire jar of her brother's red Butch Hair Wax on my long, curly hair! My mother freaked out and scrubbed and scrubbed to no avail. My hair was never the same, so she had it cut off! I think I was permanently scarred!lol
2. A newspaper dated Aug. 18--guess I planned to read it eventually! The cat lays on it!
3.I would like to see the return of the milkman who delivers milk in gallon glass jugs on the front porch! It tastes better! Boo plastic! The milk in paper cartons at the school where I work tastes nasty! I'm old enough to remember glass bottles of milk at school!
4.Can't remember, but I do know that I'm having "dark" dreams while I'm still suffering these miserable hives! I think I must not want to remember them!
5.It was Mon. morning- whole grain chips (does that count as "health food"?) from the vending machine at the Game & Fish Commission where I was with a group of disabled students who were stuffing envelopes. We all had a "treat"--they bring money to buy something as their "pay".

1. Most dramatic haircut, is at the approach of every summer (like now)...and I ask them to cut it sort. Very Short.

2. Among items in my line of sight at the moment...probably most everything! Well, some old books, which prob should get put in a cupboard, some old material I am hoping to patch my patchwork quilt...mmm...what else...there is a heap of stuff on my piled up high desk...so I know there is a pile of junk /paper to throw out there. When I get there! I dare not look any further.

3. Oh how I would love a return to more family life...having my kids and grand kids live in the same city and seeing them more often.

4. Oh, a bad dream the other morning when I was away visiting my grand kids...I was holding a baby, trying to do too many things and getting very stressed out! Silly me!

5. Cannot remember honestly. I don't as a rule ever use those machines. Really. Don't really even notice if they are there. Well, maybe I subconsciously notice them, but they don't call to me, if you know what I mean. Sorry.

Thanks for asking. Reading your blog and cbw's makes for a fun afternoon interlude!

Geesh that property sure is beautiful.

1) I haven't had it yet. I've had long hair for all of my adult life. And it's staying that way at least until I go gray.

2) Two small bottles of unfinished veterinary antibiotics. They slightly past their expiry date but I'm going to give them to Frank's sister who needs them occasionally for the squirrels and other critters she rehabilitates.

3) I miss when kidlets preferred playing outside in the fresh air instead of indoors in their virtual worlds.

4) I dreamed about Franks late ex-wife. She was lounging around on a chair in a red jumpsuit. I'm clueless.

5) Probably a water, but I don't like to use vending machines. I'd rather interact with a human being if given the choice.

Fine and fun questions. :)

4. It's been awhile, since I rarely remember my dreams, but it had something to do with being in a bunker of some kind. Probably not a good dream. Your dream reminds me of one I had years ago - my in laws have always owned the farm we live next to now. I dreamt that we had gone into business with them to grow pot [at the time of this dream it was not such a far fetched notion for us, mind you - wink wink]. We cutting these huge pot plants and were stacking them in the back of a pickup truck and my mother in law [my straight-laced, totally uptight, Baptist mother in law] was yelling "Hurry up!
