A slingshot toy, photos, and a little joke

It’s the evening of a not-so-great Monday as I write this from my favorite chair in the living room. The writing is interspersed with tossing super chicken for George. Actually, I’m not tossing it – it’s a slingshot toy. I shoot it as far as I can, which is way across the room, and then he squeaks it all the way back to me.

Needless to say, I’m not getting a lot of writing done.

I have my priorities, though. And they involve the Black & White.

All of the photos you see here were taken Friday afternoon on the property where we live. It was gorgeous here on Friday and I remember being very happy because the weekend was here.

I made myself a cocktail. Yum ~

I loved  your comments from yesterday’s post that had to do with ironing. It seems there’s several camps as far as this chore goes  - and, in fact, most of you don’t even do it anymore. I loved ‘helping’ as a child and using the iron to press my father’s handkerchiefs, a pleasant memory.

When we moved here, the vines were beginning to overtake the house. My husband pulled them all down, but he couldn’t quite get that last one up there. I can see it when I look at this photo. And I remember.

We moved here to the manor house on the hill, where we are the caretakers, in October 2008. The house dates to 1769 and I bet there was a lot of ironing going on in these rooms over the years, don’t you?

The day was waning as I shot these images. And there aren’t many blooms on the old lilac bush this year. But what we do have is lovely. Maybe they’ll be in full bloom by Easter.

Another of my violet photos. This one looks proud of himself.

I may seem like I have a quiet grace, but if you knew me in real life, you might think differently. I’ve always wanted to be graceful and quiet, but I tell bawdy jokes and laugh a lot. I use my hands when I talk, or so I’ve heard.

There’s nothing wrong with that, though.

A joke I told yesterday goes like this:

There’s two little potatoes standing on the street corner. How do you tell which one is the prostitute?

{pause for effect}

It’s the one with “Idaho” stamped on the side.

Get it? I Da Ho.

* snort *

I’m sure my mother would be appalled.

Either that or proud ~

Today would have been her 89th birthday. And if she were alive, I do believe I would call her up and tell her that joke. And hope that she would ‘get’ it.

Thanks for coming by. It’s always a pleasure having you visit ~

That is a cute one, Kate :) I'm loving that proud little violet, too.

And...when I read the line "I may seem like I have a quiet grace, but if you knew me in real life, you might think differently." - - it reminded me of the post when you were having your little "dance and song, rattle-tattle" in the car when parking at work ;)

I'm much to myself, for the want to be anything else {really want} - but I have always admired the women with a quiet grace {I am certainly not, nor most likely will ever be one}. I'm more of a bump into the wall corner, trip over a hole in the path, tell on myself and laugh out loud, kind of gal.

Happy 89 years of being a daughter, Kate. Enjoy your evening with sweet-n-lively, George.

Oh brother, I just re-read my comment - HAHAHA!! 89 years of being a daughter - I think I need to go to bed. It's been a long day.

Enjoy the memories, that's what I should have said ;)

And, there, you have it - not so quiet graceful me.

Happy birthday, MOM! I shouted it to be sure she heard it. ;) I am loud too. And I have met you in person and LOVE you! You have both sides to you...fun and outgoing and then quiet and reflective. It is what makes you a dynamic person that everyone loves. Love the last photo!

Beautiful images as always. Happy Birthday to your mom, sorry she's no longer with you. Having lost my father I know how that can be. Hugs. x

Well, you've just ruined my mental image of you! You dirty joke teller :)

I love--always love --all your pictures, but as usual you've gotten me with your goldfinch! SOOO cute--I'd give (almost) anything to be able to take bird photos like that. I got a pretty good one of a black capped chickadee this weekend, that's probably the best I've taken --but I've so, so many miles to go.

I lost my mom on Mar.30th, and I miss her so much. I can just see her raising her eyebrow at the potato joke--not smiling, but not frowning either. The old eyebrow lift!

I LOVED that last pic... and (as you may well know) my humour IRL can be a little on the bawdy side on occasion. I like to think I have have a 'broad range of humour appreciation'.
Hugs and grins your way.

Beautiful photos. You have a real eye for flowers. I'm sure your mum will be laughing at that one!!

Living in a house of such an age always brings with it a wonderful atmosphere. Imagine all the people who once lived there.

If my mother were still alive she would love this!...she always had a bawdy side to her and passed it on to me. Unfortunately I can never remember or tell a joke but I sure do appreciate those I hear!

Having read your blog for quite some time now I am not so sure I would think of you as quiet and graceful:)

Oh and I thought it was because the other one had eyes .. nevermind .. hey did you see we have very similar photos (on my Eyes blog) today ... and thanks for giving me an idea about what to do with a shot of a branch I took that I almost deleted because .. well .. now I am going to try a action/effect/whateverthefuckitis on it.

*snort* indeed....

We're all a mix of waving hands, inappropriate laughter, and silliness, if we're any fun at all. A little of the unexpected is what adds interest & zest to life, wouldn't you agree?

That's like my almost-85-yr-old dad, who still winces when I say I'm "pissed" about something. (Such an effective, good word!)

1769. Wow. I'll bet you pinch yourself sometimes to live in that history.

And lastly, the freshly ironed sleeveless flowered blouse in your prior post is really pretty ;)

Hello other Kate
I loved your post - you always seem to hit the spot and you do have a quiet grace here - not necessary to be like that all the time but your pictures and your words tell a story about a part of you.
But I do feel a fool - I love jokes and read it over and over but can't 'get it'. Is it an american joke thing - should I read it in a different accent? Oh dear, I think I am the only one!
