I love Fridays

It’s been a not so wonderful week here, although the weather was pretty amazing for the most part. Just worries in my heart and my mind but one worry turned out to be for naught when we got good news of my husband’s recent MRI.

So that was good.

DSC_2548 copy 2

The amaryllis is still blooming. It has two big blooms and another that’s coming soon. Don’t you just love this color?

DSC_2497 copy 2

I received the amaryllis bulb as a Christmas gift from a co-worker. She’s the new teacher we hired last spring when an opening came up in the Middle School English department. She’s been a wonderful addition to our faculty. When I started at the school, she was one of our 7th graders. And now she’s all grown up.

I love the cycle of life, don’t you?

And I love Fridays.

DSC_2565 copy 2

I usually have sushi on Fridays. I look forward to it all day sometimes.

: : :

Tomorrow is cleaning day, something I look forward to now because of my new vacuum. And an old friend is coming over in the evening. Haven’t seen her in ages, and am really looking forward to her visit. We tried to get together the weekend it snowed but then our driveway iced shut.

: : :

And now, because I haven’t done this in ages, and because inquiring minds want to know . . . some questions on a cold Friday night in February.

1. Do you enjoy cooking?
2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
4. Tea or coffee?
5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?

See you in the comment section, my friends . . .

1. Do you enjoy cooking?
Sometimes I do. I actually like trying new recipes, but I especially like being able to put together a meal by rote.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
I would have someone once a month. It's actually kind of satisfying doing it myself.

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
This is complicated, I know. But one thing I really abhor is infidelity. I mean, there's reasons people do what they do. But damn, it's hard to get past this one. So for me, I think I'd bow out of the situation for awhile. I just can't take this kind of stuff.

4. Tea or coffee?
Both. Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?
Although it would be ever so much more fun going along with a friend, if I was forced to, I'd go it alone. And I'd take my dog.

If you saw me you would know I do." Never trust a skinny cook."
2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
In a heartbeat.
3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
Mind my own darn business.
4. Tea or coffee?
Yes.
5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?
I have and it was so much fun and so relaxing. Well worth it for myself and those around me on my return.

...Hi Kate! *waving* That first photo is gorgeous! :o)

...I too love the cycle of life. It never ceases to amaze me, you know it? I'm always happy that I'm here everyday to see it.

...You know I had my first taste of Sushi just a couple of months ago. I have to be honest, I wasn't all that impressed. I know, different strokes for different folks. :o)

...What kind of vacuum did you get? I'm going to be in the market for one here in the near future.

...Okay, to satisfy your inquiring mind, here we go:

...1. Do you enjoy cooking? Yes, if it's just for me. My husband is too picky and takes any fun out of it.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one? Yes!

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do? I'd tell her to put on her big girl panties and either stop or get a divorce. I've never understood that. :o\

4. Tea or coffee? Both. Coffee in the a.m. and tea in the p.m.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away? Yes, if I could afford it.

...Enjoy your weekend!

...Blessings :o)

1. I like cooking easy meals...cleanup not so much.
2. I would have to say yes!
3. Actually had this situation with coworker/friend. Knew husband but not so well. I tried to support her feelings but also made my points like she needed to go ahead & get out of her marriage-very unfair.
4. Both
5. Yes. Husband would have a heart attack though. I drive to son's in Atlanta alone (6 hours drive) & am always the driver if I do anything with girlfriends. He hates it. I am in Atlanta now for grandson's 3rd birthday alone.

Okay, here we go!
1) I don't mind cooking, right now I am trying to teach myself food photography so I have to cook! I like my hubby cooking for us more!
2)My best friend is a Housekeeper who would be hurt if I hired someone else, and because she is my best friend, I would not want to hire her or have her work for me as I think that might affect our friendship, so no housekeeper for me.
3)This is a difficult one. I don't think I would want to be in that position, so I think I would not.
4)Love love my coffee, cannot start my day without it. I have a few teas I love, but mostly coffee wins out over tea.
5)I have taken a road trip of a day's duration away from home by myself, but never been in the position to go further. I would though!

1. Do you enjoy cooking? Yes, I really enjoy feeding family and friends and lively conversations around the dinner table.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one? In a heart beat! Every other week!

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do? This happened to me once. I ran into my best friends beau out to dinner with another woman - they were all over each other. He didn't see me until I walked up to the table and said "hello." Well, he about dropped his teeth. Being the crafty lawyer he was he told her he ran into me at dinner . . . ya, then I told her the rest of the story! She stayed with him a while longer, thankfully she's happily married today - to someone else! Yes, I'd do it all over again! I NEVER liked that guy!

4. Tea or coffee? Both, tea at home and coffee in restaurants!

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away? I'd like to think I would, but I'd miss my husband, he's my travel buddy!

So glad to hear the good news about your husband's MRI.

1. Do you enjoy cooking?
I do, most of the time. For me, it's a creative process. I like making things pretty on the plate.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
I have someone clean the house once a month. The other weeks I try to get the kids to help.

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
Wow, that's a tough one. I would try to stay out of it as best as I could, try to understand why she was cheating and pray for everyone potentially impacted.

4. Tea or coffee?
I like both - I tend to do tea on the weekends and coffee on the weekdays.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?
Yes. I enjoy traveling by myself - I can take my time (taking pictures) and exploring things at crazy hours of the day (like sunrise) without inconveniencing others.

Happy Friday evening, Kate.

1) Yes, I definitely enjoy cooking. New recipes and long lists of ingredients don't deter me.
2) Perhaps once a month a housekeeper would be nice.
3) This is tricky. I think I might have a frank discussion with her.
4) Tea most mornings, plus tea in the afternoon as well. Coffee only on occasion.
5) At my "advanced age," I find I am more hesitant to embark on such a trip alone.

I celebrate with you at the good report your husband received this week!

1. generally not really, occasionally yes if it is for something fun
2. hell yes; I find no satisfaction in doing it myself; although if I had a fancy vacuum I might :)
3. okay, Kate, if you weren't going to give us a real answer why did you ask it :) I would probably try to talk with her about it but would not push it
4. coffee in the morning; tea anytime past the first 2 wake up cups of coffee
5. yes, but would probably like to have a friend waiting at the end; I actually did so as I drove from Charleston to Buffalo for my graduate school rotation but I don't know if that really counts b/c the road trip was a means to an end....

PS: very glad for the good news.... every little bit counts!

4. Coffee...espresso mostly, does that count?

5. I would not take a road trip by myself...I love spending time with my hubby.

3. i think i would keep my mouth shut
4. tea, tea and more tea
5. you betcha i would and the hubby would want me to do it. he's always been great in knowing what i need before i do and time away is one of those things.

1. Do you enjoy cooking? Yes, if there's no pressure - like a restricted budget or a big event or people coming over.
2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one? This is hypothetical since it's never been "affordable," but I don't think so. I think I'd be one of those who had to clean the house before the housecleaner came....
3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do? Your response was a good one for me, too. I would definitely talk to her about the situation and try to convince her to do otherwise (maybe play her Clay Walker's song "Then What" (http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/walker-clay/then-what-9591.html), but if the situation persisted, I'd have to back away.
4. Tea or coffee? Both; certain herbal teas and decaf with plenty of skim milk and sweetener.
5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away? Again, a theoretical guess, but perhaps!

No answers, just happy to her your husband's good news....the Daniel Project might be interesting to look into sometime.
Dr. Daniel Amen(based in CA)has shown with MRI brain images that our brains are affected by healthy diet practices, and has imaging proving that brains heal remarkably well.

Woot Woot on good MRI results!!!

1. Do you enjoy cooking? NO! But I sure love eating!

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one? No. Unless I was physically unable to do the cleaning myself.

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would I do? Criminy...I have absolutely no idea what I'd do. And fortunately, I've never had to figure that out.

4. Tea or coffee? Yes, both...hot & iced.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away? My bags are packed! Where am I going & when do I leave?!

4.Coffee in the morning, tea in the evening.
5. Yes, but I'd rather have company.

1. I LOVE to cook and bake:)
2. If I knew I could trust the person, maybe. My mom just had a bad experience with someone and I'd hate to deal with something like what she went through.
3. I think I'd be disappointed in my friend, but probably would stay out of it.
4. Both tea and coffee. Right now I'm on an iced coffee kick.
5. One day, yes. Two days, no. I don't like to eat alone in restaurants.

Glad to hear you had good MRI news.

1. For me cooking is just something that is necessary and if I weren't married and needing to feed a hard working husband, I would not cook.

2. Oh YES! I would definitely have a housekeeper. Just someone to scrub the floors and the toilets. I don't mind doing the rest of it.

3. If I knew my best friend's spouse was cheating on her I would tell HIM to tell her or else I would if he were too cowardly to admit it.

4. Coffee with lots of coffeemate creamer.

5. YEP... You can bet I would do a road trip all alone. He's no fun to travel with anyway. LOL

Have a great week-end, Kate!

thecatalanway said...

hi there and so glad you reached friday and the news was good and you could sit down and really enjoy the sushi!
I like these question times but have never before read through all the other comments. Wow that was an interesting view into another society! Here's my thoughts:-

1. Cooking. Yes but it's best when the others are food lovers and not picky stepsons or hard-to-please partners. I have been vegetarian most of my life but now experiment with meat. Jamie Oliver and Delia Smith are my constant kitchen companions

2. House. Yes, have a good cleaner once and you are hooked for life. I like housekeeping but don't want to do it every day.

3. Infidelity. So noone who responded has ever been unfaithful? Me neither but my philosophy is 'never name that well from which I will not drink'
Life is not black and white.
I try to support my friends whatever they are going through. This support would be honest, direct, accepting and unshockable. These things happen and who am I to judge? If I socialised a lot with her and her husband this would be hard for me and I would tell her so.

5. I drink tea - Earl Grey. I like coffee but if driven to chose then tea would be more important.

6. I have done lots of travelling on my own - and of course it is always better with my dogs! At the moment I enjoy exploring the world with my partner too much to take time for solo trips but I think it is good to sometimes be with yourself and tune into your own rhythms. (I loved the woman who answered that it is better alone as her husband isn't that much fun - that is so human and true for many people. Some partners aren't suited for travel while they may be fine at home!)
have a great weekend kate, kate:) xx

1. Do you enjoy cooking? Sometimes. :) I like to cook when I'm not stressed after my day and when Noah is waiting to eat it!

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one? No. They don't DO enough for me. Even if I had money I wouldn't spend it on that. A house being clean is not important in the scheme of life (even though it's always a nice feeling).

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do? I would tell him. There is never an excuse for cheating in my mind and if someone was cheating on me I would want to be told!

4. Tea or coffee? Ooh. I used to say tea but I might be more of a coffee drinker now. How about both are excellent?

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away? Sadly, it's unlikely. The only days I get with my fiance now are the weekends (looking at you, how do you do it?! I'm exhausted after student teaching). Plus, we have NO money which means I can't afford to drive that far.

Wonderful news about your husband. Photos, I am in love with the red amaryllis photo. That is so cool that you knew that teacher in the 7th grade.

1. Cooking. I am not that good of a good so I don't cook very often. Maybe if I had someone to cook for I would have more motivation.

2. Housekeeper. Yes, definitely.

3. Cheating spouse. I would definitely tell my friend. I would have to. I would want to know.

4. Tea or coffee. In my younger days I just loved tea. But now I very rarely drink it. I love coffee now.

5. Road trip. Yes, I have done it. I would prefer not to. I would always rather travel with someone.

Have a good weekend.

Ok let's see....
1. I enjoy cooking for dinner parties and holidays. Any event that is grand enough for fancy things. I loathe cooking everyday meals.

2. If I could afford a housekeeper would I have one, um....absolutely!! Especially if she prepared the everyday meals! And if she could learn some sort of macrobiotic smoothie cooking to make me look like gwyneth Paltrow then bring her over now!

3. The cheater cheater pumpkin eater question.....I certainly hope I never find myself in that situation. I don't think I can answer, too many 'what ifs'. I don't think I would insert myself.....unless there was some sort of dangerous behavior going on as well...then all bets are off.

4. Coffee to start the day! Thank you to my coffee maker that has it made before I open my eyes! Decaf ice tea the rest of the day, unsweetened chai, no milk.

5. Road trip....yes I would do that!! Know why? I would find fabulous shopping along the way. I would check into some sort of hotel with a day spa and really good room service. I could pick the music...can I leave tomorrow?

Anonymous said...

1. Do you enjoy cooking?
Yes, when I have time to experiment... but no baking, and only if I could have the housekeeper from question 2 when I'm done making a mess in the kitchen.
2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
Heck yeah.
3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
Stay out of it.
4. Tea or coffee?
Both, coffee in the morning so I can function properly, and tea in the afternoon.
5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?
I'd be a little lonely, but it would still be fun.

1. Do you enjoy cooking? I love cooking, especially trying new things. The clean-up? not so much.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one? Hell yeah.

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do? Not a damn thing if I truly valued the friendship. If I thought she was being horrible, I'd say something to her. My feeling is, we never know the true dynamics in someone else's relationship and so evaluating is not always fair.

4. Tea or coffee? Both.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away? If I could bring a dog.

Happy for you both on the good MRI news.
1. I love to cook..just don't like having to decide What to cook.
2. I would love to have someone come in about once a month to do deep cleaning..oh yeah!
3. My first husband was a cheater and I abhor them. Me being me, tho, I wouldn't say anything...just slowly fade out of the friendship.
4. I so enjoy my hubby's company on the road but I also enjoy stopping whenever I want to for photos, etc. I always think he should see what I want to shoot and slow down or stop but we see photo ops very differently and that is another interesting thing about him, lol.

Such good news about your husband's MRI. I know you are both resting easier because of it.

1. Yes, I do enjoy cooking. It settles me when I'm stressed, gives me something to do when I'm bored, and lets me to nourish the ones I love.

2. Housekeeper - definitely, every day. I love to be in my home, doing homebody things, but this does not include cleaning. Perhaps a bit of dusting, polishing the silver, etc...

3. Best Friend cheating on spouse: I'd pray for her and try to keep my mouth shut.

4. Black coffee in the morning and iced tea the rest of the time. If I had to choose only one, I'd have to go with the iced tea.

5. Road trip alone: I'd like to think I'd be brave enough to do that, but it will never happen.

4. Starbucks Cafe Moca! But since I cant afford that more than once in a blue moon, love Twinnings with cinnimon vanella creamer.

5. You bet! done many trips alone, 2 weeks cross country drive to New England and back, 2 weeks camping in the Boundry Waters and Ille Royalle alone, lots of drives back and forth to CO & MN, always take the back roads so I can stop in the tiny towns antique stores and junk shops, thats were the best stuff is!

I'd mind my business, but it would change the relationship absolutely
coffee
not a problem traveling , although I am a chicken driver ( ie highways terrify me) , but I'd fly, train, bus, or drive the back roads. Love being alone. Husband wouldn't mind.

okay to be honest i read alot of others comments on this one before i crafted one of my own.....my BEST friend huh....well to get to best friend status lets assume we've been thru alot together so again i would assume we could talk about ANYTHING.....if not we would not be BEST friends......i would find a way to delicately let her know that i knew otherwise it would always be the white elephant in the room.....and tell her i was there to talk if she ever needed to....

Both tea and coffee but mostly COFFEE!

YES! i would take the trip. Me, myself and i are BEST friends!

#1 I enjoy cooking...but seldom have time. Since Hubbs is not busy with other things, he cooks. I am the lucky one who gets to cook when "there's nothing to eat in the house!" Mom trained me well enough that I can make several meals after every one else have given up.

#2 Yes, yes, yes, I would have a housekeeper, although I am the kind that cleans before a housekeeper gets here. I would have more time to paint, read, sew and live.

#3 That's a tough one. I'd like to think I would mind my own business...but who knows what I would do until faced with the choice.

#4 Sweet tea and I come from a long line of coffee drinkers. Never could develop a liking for it.

#5 I have once, and will again, if I ever have the time or the money. I take short ones, but never for more than a day alone.

Your questions are so much fun...thank you. Glad the news was good.

3. I had a friend who was cheating on her husband. I reminded her of my experience, having been cheated on, and how blindingly hurtful it was. I counseled her to leave her husband, rather than force them both to live a lie, if she was that unhappy.

4. Coffee in the a.m. Peppermint tea the balance of the day.

5. I've traveled on my own several times and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. It's empowering and freeing.

1. Do you enjoy cooking?

I prefer to do everything around the cooking. The shopping, the table setting, the cleaning up afterwards. I guess maybe because I have not cooked a lot and am not very good at it!

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?

Yes, all I really would want is once, maybe 2x a month for the deeper clean.

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?

I am not sure - I'd like to think I would stay out of it, but it depends...am I friends with her husband too? Do they have children?

4. Tea or coffee?

A little of both. I definitely enjoy a single cup of coffee in the morning but tea for the rest of the day, for relaxing and when I am sick. Iced Tea always in the summertime!

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?

Yes, Yes, Absolutely! Are you planning a trip somewhere?

Hi, Kate! I am so very happy that DH received a good report on his MRI...Thank God!

Loving all the photos and really liking the color of the amarlysis!

1. I don't cook 'meals' much. My husband has a very limited palette and therefore it is not a joy to be in the kitchen.
2. I would love, love, love to have someone come in once a week to clean my house. I detest housekeeping.
3. If she was my 'best friend' I would definitely talk with her, albeit very gently. I, too, believe that if you are unhappy in your marriage and it's beyond help, then get a divorce first...then a new man.
4. Coffee in the a.m. Tea at night!
5. I wish I had the courage to travel alone. I've seen much of the United States, but there are still a few places I'd like to visit or revisit like Washington DC that my DH is not interested in. I've been to Europe and would love to visit a few more countries, but I am definitely hestitant given the world unrest.

Here's hoping that you have another good week!

Hooray for good MRI reports. I personally know that feeling of relief for the moment. So happy for you.
1. Not really. If I could hire a chef, that would be awesome.
2. But I don't mind cleaning house. Of course, hiring a chef and a maid sounds wonderful, but it's because I'm basically lazy.
3. Since I'm a confronter, I'd ask her what the heck she was doing and remind her of the consequences of such actions. Sometimes, I don't think we butt in enough (to our closest friends and family).
4. I like McDonald's Peppermint Mocha and Mcalister's sweet tea.
5. Sure. Take the camera and phone and pack the heat.

I know I'm a bit late since this is Monday but I do love these question thingys you do!
1. I LOVE to cook!
2. I can afford and I do. Have ever since we moved the business to a separate location & I was in school at that time. It was for my sanity!
3. Oooo, that one is difficult. I think it would depend on the depth of the friendship. I would work on her to come clean but not sure I would step in. Maybe, maybe not...ooooo not sure.
4. Coffee, definitely but a good cup of hot tea in the afternoon is wonderful.
5. I'm not much of a traveler by myself. I get a bit scared so I would have to be pretty desparate to get away.

1st off that sushi makes me want to have it for lunch!

Yes, we both like to cook

No housekeeper, hate the thought of somebody touching my stuff

I know I would not support her in it, and since she is my best friend, I would tell her so

Tea

Not for pleasure, only if it was business

Friday is the best day, no doubt. So glad to hear that you had good news.

I love everything about an amaryllis...

1. Do you enjoy cooking?
Certain foods, homemade soup, chili, pizza. If I had more time I think I would enjoy it more.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
I've thought about this, I don't know. I'm a serious hermit, and I think I would feel weird, but perhaps I could adjust...;-)

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
It would depend on so many things...most likely I would stay out of it, but I wouldn't spend time with them as a couple.

4. Tea or coffee?
Tea is one of my favorite things in life.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?
I would, and I have. To the Adirondacks.

1. Do you enjoy cooking?
Yep if I have the time.

2. If you could afford a housekeeper, would you have one?
I would want someone to do my bathrooms each week and once a month for washing windows and junk I hate to do.

3. If you knew your best friend was cheating on her spouse, what would you do?
I would have to tell her how I feel and then back off..stay away.

4. Tea or coffee?
Tea...hate coffee.

5. Would you take a road trip all by yourself to a destination up to two days away?
Yes and I have. I love time away by myself. For me something called renewal. Only wish I could do it more often.
